There has been some speculation on the cliffhanger close of 13-2, leading many to believe that 13-3 was inevitable. This has since been refuted by the suits over at square; instead, what's really going on is that you'll be able pay even more money just to finish the game you already paid $60 for. Now, don't get me wrong, I love DLC when its done right, but there is a massive difference between Rockstar DLC and EA DLC. Square, who lost their soul ages ago, has opted to go for the latter path unsurprisingly, by ripping out the essential chunk of game (ending) and selling it back to players at a premium. Not even EA would do this! Its the most heinous cash grab in gaming ever. I have no idea how squre fans are going to react to this, the logical reaction would be to be pissed at square for taking advantage of you poor, loyal, blind souls, but I have a feeling that the square fan has been bred to take it.
Oh fuck, this is just dumb. I am one of those who defend a well done DLC (looks at New Vegas and such) but actually cutting of the end of the game... that's sick.
Square Enix has explained Final Fantasy 13-2's "to be continued" ending, which last week sparked speculation that Final Fantasy 13-3 was inevitable.
This isn't the case, director Motomu Toriyama told Japanese press at the Taipei Game Show 2012 event (via Andriasang).
There were a number of reasons for the inclusion of the "to be continued" ending. One, because Square Enix wanted to encourage players to find all of the Paradox Endings hidden away in the game.
Another is because Final Fantasy 13-2 will be extended through DLC, meaning players can expect a long play experience. Toriyama told fans Square Enix will continually release DLC, which is still being developed for the game.
Upcoming DLC includes the addition of Lightning and Amodar to the Coliseum Battle mode (confirmed for release in Europe on 7th February on Xbox Live and 8th February on PlayStation Network).
There's also a "large" Lightning Episode in the works. Episodes for Snow and Sazh are also expected.
Did the game actually end? Or did it do a Sopranos and just end without answering a bunch of questions? From the sounds of the article, the "To Be Continued" just leaves it open for other stories to be explained, what this person was doing while you were fighting some boss for example.
If it is holding the entire summary as a hostage, well, that sucks ass.

I haven't touched the game after getting burned so badly by 13, but I know others who have beaten it and its definitely holding the whole story hostage. This is what happens

I'm sure they'll get around to it. Mass Effect 3.5 perhaps?
It's ironic that as more MMORPGs are moving away from the subscription model, more single player games are sliding towards it.
Oh I have not a single doubt in my mind that EA will milk the Bioware teat until its bone dry. Get ready for mass effect kart racing, mass effect party games, mass effect dating sim...
Haha, thats a cute little observation.
Btw, fear effect was dooope back in the day. Hana & rain are still the hottest lesbians in gaming
Solo-Wing: Wow uh... I have no words. Square lost their souls when they combined with Enix. It is why most Final Fantasys since X have been shit.
You have that backwards.
Square was well underway to fucking themselves over before they ever merged with Enix.
If anything, the quality of Enix games has suffered because of Square.
Thats how ive always felt as well. I mean square in their heyday (ps1 era) were untouchable, but their downfall can only be attributed to themselves and that god awful spirits within movie. WHat a stupid decision...

That movie was a warning flag, of everything wrong with Square today. Its going to be the marker of when square jumped the shark, and everything that has come after reminds me of it.
I havent cared about a square game since 9, and the only reason I played X-2 was because of the promises of TnA, though the job system was a pleasant surprised.

Ahhh, good to see someone who agrees with me on that note. Though personally I'd say that the FF series has been going downhill a few games before FFX. Specifically, the last FF game that I'd consider to be good was the original FFT for the regular Playstation. 8 was too easy, 9 was too childish, 10's voice acting ruined any appreciation I could have for it. And that's when I officiially lost faith in the franchise and haven't played an FF since.
Hmmm, I wonder why there haven't been sequels to very many other FF games...oh, that's right, because the good ones all have a clear and definite ending. While FFs 4 and 6 are amongst my favorite ones, I would hate to see sequels barfed up out of them because there need not be any continuation of those stories. FFX certainly didn't need a sequel, but they made one anyway and it was such an abomination that I really wanted to catch a flight to Japan and set fire to the Square-Enix HQ.
So yeah, quite honestly, I feel sorry for all the die-hard FF fans. You guys devote so much money and loyalty to a franchise that offers you delicious cake in one hand while winding up to punch you in the balls with the other. Each piece of cake requires no less than 20 punches to the balls, so you either have to stop taking the cake or get punched in the balls so much that you just become numb to the whole process and willingly widen your stance to make the punches easier while you munch on your cake. Little do you know the chocalate is actually rat poo and the reason you don't feel the punches anymore is because your genitals are officially crushed and dead. :P
This all just being my humble opinion, of course. :3

Yea, 9 was square's peak. Its too bad it didnt sell like gangbusters or we might have an entirely different square today. I think they confused the lower sales numbers with fans not liking the game, when in reality the low sales of 9 has infinitely more to do with how fans recieved 8. Stupid, stupid square, its the most obvious thing in the world if you take 2 seconds to think about it. Whoever is running that company now needs to be fired asap.
And X-2 . . . im not one to turn down cheesecake but Yuna paine and rikku never did anything for me.
Hmmmm, Final fantasy 9 too childish? I dont even know what that means. If having an intricate world with engrossing lore, hidden continents to explore, and priceless treasure to be found is childish, then yes FF9 is the most childish rpg ever made and I love it.

Le blanc on the other hand was sexy and awesome, I loved how they payed tribute to the Time Bokan troupe.

9 was too childish? Dude they had to use the childish art and such or it would have been the darkest Final Fantasy in the series. The game has Death, Mortality, and Genocide as running themes through the entire thing. Really. If they went with FF8s kind of art the entire thing would have been bloody grim.
Also 8 was too easy? I couldn't get past the beginning of disk 4. And yeah 10 had bloody awful voice acting.

4 actually has a sequel. The After Years.
I actually really love the art style of 9, it fits the fantasy setting perfectly. I mean its the only FF post nintendo era where stiltzkin's and vivi's and amarant's can exist naturally. Look at FFXIIIs roster, you've got human, human, human, and more human. And not particularly interesting humans at that. I wish they would just go back to actually making diverse and interesting casts like they've proven they can in the past, but perhaps its no longer possible now that sakaguchis long gone. I miss nobuo too :(
Sorry guys, but when the main character could easily be replaced with Goku from the original Dragon Ball series (complete with going super saiyajin as his limit break) I consider it to be too childish. Your black mage is a child. The princess is only what, 14? 12? She certainly doesn't look like she's old enough for a drivers license. And Steiner was just one big lame joke wrapped in a tin can. It's fine if you disagree with my opinion, I fully admit that I didn't go behind disc 2 before growing overtly bored with the game and stopping.
And Solo, as for FF8 being to easy, apparently you didn't know which spells to junction. Especially by the end of the game, you can essentially have everyone in your party be invincible and immune to all debuffs. :P

I... I kind of liked that movie.
On topic: That is the shittiest thing a developer can do. Glad I haven't support these clowns with a purchase.

Funny, since Zidane is probably the most mature character I have ever encountered in an FF setting.
He doesnt go all emo when shit hits the fan.
He wasnt a moral compass and only did stuff because it affected him personally.
Finally he didnt rely on the bullshit MY FRIENDS crap that most of your cited prefences defered to.
he was a very well rounded character.
The Steiner being a big joke was part of the comedy act that brought it back to the roots of classic FF, like Sabin and Edgar back in FF6 or the kung fu guy in 4, or the whole cast of FF5.
underaged princess is a problem for you? Remember how old most of the cast of FF6 was?
And yeah FF8 was balls on easy, the only chore was grinding for spells, then you could just plow through the whole game.
Garnet is 16 when the story begins, and she totally looks 16-18. The style for humanoids in the game tends to have characters with slightly larger than proportional heads, but I mean if you cant get over something that minor to dig into such a deep, rich experience, then are you not being shallow?
In fact there is a playable character named Eiko thats around 12-13, and you can easily distinguish the physical differences and personality differences between her and Garnet if you're paying attention that is.
The Eiko/Garnet dynamic is interesting because its clear that Eiko has a crush on zidane and is super jealous of garnet for infatuating zidane. Its entertaining to see how Eiko deals with it in her own quirky ways, and touching when we see her deal with these confusing feelings internally

You'd be right if they made a complete game first and then decided to withhold the ending. That would be really low. But what if the DLC will work like Half-Life 2's episodes? Suppose they want to tell a long story without resorting to XIII-3, XIII-4 and so on. Why would that be a problem?
Talk about a cruel twist of fate...before, you could argue that most DLC (for any game) was content made tangential to the game, not essential, but now...
This is Squeenix bending their fanbase over and telling them to smile when it hurts. Good fucking grief, they must be desperate if they're going to give a total no-prize for the ending (read the spoilers someone else provided above), only to sell you an actual conclusion later on...and I thought Bethesda was unique in basically providing a schlock ending, only to charge money to "fix it" later with Fallout 3. But still, at least that game technically had a definitive ending to it rather than a cliffhanger.
Still, I can't even get properly angry at Squeenix. It's just...sad really to see a game company sabotage themselves like this. And to think that they used to be one of the most respected names in the entire industry...

Oh so they will release 2 then never release the third one? BRILLIANT!

Doh...think man. FF XIII-2 is what...a 40 hour game? What if an episode is like 8 hours tops. Just because it would sequentially follow FF XIII-2 wouldn't make it a fully fledged sequel deserving of an "FF XIII-3" designation.
EDIT: also, you don't know how many "episodes" they have planned...if they have them planned that is. Maybe it's all an experiment to see what the customer can accept/ tolerate. They're not gonna continue forever obviously.

NO I was making a joke on the episodes. Release 2 episodes then never release a third one. You know. Like Half-life 2?...
Don't you hate it when your jokes fly over peoples head?
Seems to me like the majority of the characters in FF6 were at least in their 20s, with the exception of Relm, the same applies to everyone in FF 4 with the exception of young Rydia. The rest of your statement I won't bother commenting on because it's mostly opinion (though I do disagree that Zidane was the most mature FF character ever), however it is nice to see that we agree on FF8.
Yeah, they say Garnet is 16 at the start, but that's just to cover their asses since the game features her getting naked behind a bunch of boxes. Just like how the Dead or Alive series say that Kasumi and Ayane's age is N/A. According to canon they're only 16...but seeing as how the DoA games are mainly meant to be fapping material, they couldn't declare their ages and put them in costumes that revealing with bodies that voluptuous. :P
But seriously guys, I didn't come here to pick fights, I came here to state my opinion just like the rest of you, and in my opinion Square-Enix has been pumping out nothing but crap since FFT. Varying degrees of crap, mind you, but crap none-the-less. It boils down to the fact that nothing I can say will prove to you that FF9 was crappy and childish, just like nothing you can say will prove to me that it wasn't. So yeah, disagree with me all you want, but I stand by my opinion, as I suspect you both stand by yours.
