Skyrim Follower Question

So I've gotten back into Skyrim after getting a bunch of new mods for it. But I've had some questions about followers, since I've never really used them. (My first character was a stealthy assassin for whom followers would be a burden, and the second character preferred to summon his companions from the ethereal beyond)

1: Is it possible to get the mage companions to wear actual light armor, or will they refuse to wear anything that isn't a robe? Will they be more willing to wear it if I give it magic related buffs?

2: is it possible to influence what spells a mage companion will use, or a they stuck to only certain few? IE: Will Illyia only ever use Frost, or can she be convinced to use Fire, Shock etc. too?

3: In general terms, are the archer companions or mage companions better for melee-heavy characters?

4: Is there a healer mage companion? If so, where and how does one acquire him/her/it?

1. If they don't want to wear them just like that, then -> Console codes
2. Console codes
3. Purely subjective opinion, but Archers. They won't fire area devastating spells, right ? :)
4. Check here

:)

Great, no healer followers.

Why does Bethesda always miss things like that?

The game is already ridiculously easy.
I guess they figured it might be over the top, giving you a companion that kisses your booboos after every hit.

1. Most companions should wear the armor you give them with the highest armor rating, no matter what their talent
2. No, not unless you use console codes as already stated by another
3. It depends, if you're rolling battlemage get an archer, if you're straight warrior get mage for elemental damage, or you could get an archer and enchant their bow with elemental, but mages can heal themselves very well you should note. So if you know they might get hit, pick mage
4. Pretty much all the mages can heal, themselves. But not you, not sure if you can change that or not.

You could probably console-code one of the mages into a healer. It might mean taking away all their other spells and whatnot, and only giving them something like Healing Hands. Even so, I'm not sure if their AI is made to use ally-healing spells. Any skilled modders should take note of this and create a follower who is a healer/conjurer/archer. The perfect support follower. Magic for healing and high-level conjuration since it doesn't need to be spent on damage spells. Enchant a bow, and epic win!

you really dont need a healer in skyrim get the fast healing spell, apprentice restoration, and you will never again be low on health or use a health pack. more advanced users get the stamina increase perk to never again need a stamina potion
skyrim is a very easy game to break via making massively OP character's

Not having a healer definitely gets in the way of RPing though....and the mage companions are more dangerous to you than to enemies, particularly on harder difficulties.

Paragon Fury:

And that's what makes it fun! :p
