GAME not stocking Mass Effect 3 Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 NEXT
Well no, because they haven't taken your money... Anyway, now all you people who ordered the CE can join the rest of us complaining about the Day One DLC being another tenner! Won't that be fun?!
How did you manage that considering it hasn't been on there for months?! Enquiring minds want to know!
I take it your experiences with Game have been less than good? Does anyone know if this just effects the UK or is it all over? The article I read on BBC said it was only Games based in the UK but I am not entirely sure.
Wonder how much they were paying to stock new games. If it's anything like Gamestop, the profit they make on new sales would be in the low-single digits. Shame to see them go down because Publishers wouldn't simply offer them a better deal. Especially since GAME offered to share the profits from used sales if the publishers would offer a better deal on new games.
If they aren't giving people what they paid for and proceed to "refund" them with store credits, that is not satisfactory in my eyes. Honour your custom or give the money back.
No. No no no no no no no. If GAME goes down, physical copies of PC games will be dead. They were never perfect, but at least they were actually doing something. If they disappear, the entire UK gaming market will be thrown into the wind.
I think I figured out their new business model! Anything that will sell like hotcakes, don't put in the store. Instead stock it with a bunch of games most won't buy until they are in the bargain bin! PERFECT!
Having no luck on the Xbox front either. =\ EDIT: Xboxers, amazon.co.uk is still good.
Not your fault, I agreed with you at first, but read the update on this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-29-game-offering-mass-effect-3-cash-refund-today-only It was just confusion, looks to me like it's a fiver cash and a fiver store credit.
For those interested in the survival of GAME as an entity, it's interesting to watch the market performance of it's shares and the interplay between major holders of shares. First of all, a large chunk of game (more then half in fact) is held by investment funds and hedge funds. The investment funds, who tend to represent people with ISAs, pensions and all the other jazz that anyone can get from high street banks and specialists like Standard Life, are selling up their shares because it's become too risky - they no longer have anything like a guaranteed return. The Hedge funds have been buying these shares up, resulting in a price this afternoon hovering around 5p per share. This likely means that they can see a profit (albeit a far more risky one) by either selling the entire business to another company and wrapping up GAME Media Group (the parent company) or by putting the company into administration and selling the assets individually. GAME are pretty much gone in their present form as a result of this. Mass Effect is a symptom which isn't being treated correctly (Game should be looking to rapidly dispose of some assets to turn a quick profit while altering their business model to be more competitive.) I'd also suggest they should be adopting better management practises in their stores as well, although that's more down to poor service I've experienced from managers (although not often the sales staff. EDIT: Also, yeah, I'm really disappointed I've missed out on the Collector's Edition. Hoping EA offer it to Amazon, since Zavvi, GameStop UK and Play had all sold out of the PC and Xbox versions by the time I got home from work.
Gasp! Without Game supplying it, I'll never get ME3! Oh, look. There's a Gamestop a street away from Game. In every Game location in Ireland. Handy. Oh, look. Amazon is in the next tab. Go die, Game.
I'm personally really affected by this as I was going to buy Mass Effect 3 at GAME after I pre-ordered it with a gift card. Now ofcourse the gift card is useless now they aren't stocking it at all and I have no way to get ME3 since I don't have any cash at the moment to use. God damn it GAME! -_-
They're always ridiculously overpriced and have terrible customer service.
After taking another look at the memo at the bottom of this page, I think EA might be to blame for this. It seems as if they're being completely unreasonable with their credit terms. No surprises, here.
| |
That's 'cause it's against the law. If they don't ask for ID, they could be fined or lose their jobs. Hence the over-caution. Glad I jumped from working at the sinking ship last month. I feel for the customers here, and they'd better get a full flipping refund after the company introduced this ridiculous policy where if you change your mind on a pre-order, you only get to transfer it to a different one or store credit. I feel for my ex-colleagues, too, who are awesome people, facing this backlash of no doubt angry customers and facing a very real prospect of losing their jobs. It used to be a fantastic job for a brilliant company, I was so proud of working there. But my last four months out of four and a half years were terrible. The company completely changed, started completely not caring about staff, slashed all benefits and working hours and morale was through the absolute floor. It literally started making me ill. And it's such a shame because it never used to be like that. I can see the company going under, easily. Times are not good for the GAME group. But there are so many affected parties from this EA thing that I can't see them recovering easily. If at all. Gutted for the ME3 customers at any rate. Oh, and I've always thought EA were dicks, especially about this sort of thing. I don't think they're solely to blame, though, GAME have been in trouble for a few months, this just brings it to a new level of trouble. Not being able to afford what will be the biggest title for a few months is worrying.
Doesn't look like they're being "completely unreasonable". Just not inclined to give GAME a break. It's hardly EA's fault that GAME is in financial trouble.
But.........the guy in GAME yesterday tried to get me to pre-order it. I'm confused by all these mixed messages and actions/inactions, its like the tory party have taken over the games industry
The store guy had no idea yesterday, My local gamestation guys are pretty cut up by it.
So then the same guy selling me Mass Effect two years earlier was probably doing something against the law too.
Just got that email and jumped straight to Amazon and preordered the collectors edition from there, not happy that i've had to fork out an extra fiver to ensure i get it on release day but i'd spend about that on petrol driving to my closest store so i guess it works out the same. Seriously bad news for GAME though losing so many sales especially when their floundering already, i also doubt that i'm alone in saying i probably won't be preordering anything from them for a while now, so thats even more potential sales lost.
Must've had his refresher training on age-related sales drilled into him when you tried to buy the Sims one. We had an e-mail through a couple of years ago about a guy that got caught selling to underage and he got fired and fined. Some staff are pretty relaxed about it but I was one of the harsh ones, haha. Just because it didn't seem like it was worth the risk. My sister managed to buy GTA IV from Gamestation when she was only 17, too.
Agreed. GAME also is in a bad position because they told all their suppliers their dealings with other suppliers will be open and honest, so even if they wanted to accept slightly worse terms from EA they can't for fear that others will want the same rates. I don't fault EA for their decision.
If I remember correctly, when questioned about the failure to stock Ubisoft PS Vita titles the 'marketing director' claimed that GAME could guarantee all other pre-orders...
Wait... so does this mean that GAME and Gamestation are both going to close down? If so that will suck for me because then the only place stocking games in my town will be HMV, which always marks up the price like £10 even when the game was released a year ago, and never stocks old games. Guess its amazon from now on, then.
Got the email same as everyone else, its really sad for me as I've been using the same store for the past 15 years since it opened (the the EB before it before they left the country). now apart from Indie stores theres only HMV left that sees games near me. this really doesn't sound like something GAME is going to recover from.
I was going pre ordered my PS Vita from GAME until Amazon brought out a MUCH better deal, they even knocked off a tenner by the time it launched. GAME is now done for, once you turn away regular costumers you'll be lucky to get them back.
well there goes the last game retailer in derry. without a credit card it looks like I'm fucked
I just got home and saw the E-Mail. If they can't get this release in and with all that's gone on lately I can't see any way back for them. I thought they were doing fine considering how well things like GAMEfest went down, I wonder how long this slide has been going on for. I've ordered a replacement copy from Amazon, as last time I tried Play they screwed up too. Frankly I can't see why I should be taking my business to GAME in future anymore, my own local store has gone downhill as it is since the old manager left. A £5 gift voucher as a way of saying sorry feels pathetic too, I know they didn't take my money but there isn't anything else I want anyway...
To explain what happened here, EA were giving them a terrible deal compared to the other traders, and GAME was going to suffer for it in the long run, so they basically said "Give us a fair deal or fuck off". EA chose the latter. Edit - tad more relevant discussion just in case I'm not sure how to feel about this, part of me respects GAME for not bending over, and part of me thinks they're idiots given EA has such a HUGE market share, oh and GAME won't be able to sell Fifa now, and we know between that and Cod they could stay afloat without much bother, given the sheer size of the chav market.
I'm not so bothered that my CE order has been cancelled and that I won't be getting it (probably because I'll never be able to find it again). I'm more disgruntled with the fact that GAME was the only place that sold the Masters edition of Tiger Woods 13 and now they've also cancelled that order for me. Never thought I'd ever be more excited for a sports game than something like Mass Effect.
I hold no love for GAME, if this is news of their exploitative practices coming to an end then good job economy!
Seems like Game wont make it. Mass Effect 3 would really perk their sales and now they wont get that opportunity. This is actually kinda sad. I rarely do retail, but this sucks for those who do and for the employees.
To be fair, if they're going down the shitter im surprised they're even giving away £5 gift vouchers. Anyway im really disappointed about losing my CE that ive had pre ordered for 8 frikkin months -.- but i saw this coming when i noticed that last night when it had mysteriously vanished from their site... still its pretty annoying.. and now im gonna have to do my physical game purchasing from HMV which are always over priced =[
Dude, get it from Amazon.co.uk, it's about £64 on there. Which is about roughly the same as what GAME were selling it for. I've ordered a copy from there. I know how you feel though, had my copy on pre-order since August. They are bound to lose a lot more income from not stocking it frankly. =/
I went in recently on a whim and bought 3DS ocarina and mario and a guide for ff13-2 and the amount of pre ordered games they were trying to shove down my throat was hilarious.

Just ordered a CE from Amazon after mine was cancelled. It's really weird to think I'll be able to walk into a GAME store and lots of huge games will be missing. That is, for as long as there are GAME stores to way into at all...
