Assassin's Creed 3 trailer revealed.
They've got a release date already? Swear the last one only just came out. They need to spend more time making these games.
Apparantely they have been working on this one for 3 years, whilst revelations and brotherhood were made and released at the same time.
I think they said at some point they were trying to get one out every year or something.
Really? Hopefully it'll be good then if they've put more time into it than the others.
I don't really like it. It looks too americanized, something that looks like it's just meant for Americans. I know it soulds kinda ridiculous on my part. But i always saw Assassins Creed has that great adventure, through the great european cities, climbing majestic buildings and fighting the templars. This just looks... like you climb trees, and participate in a couple fights... I know i know there are cities, but you just can't compare the american cities of that period to the ones from europe. And i feel like europe (or even countries like China) of this exact period would fit WAAAAAY more, and be waaay better for the continuation of the series. My opinion is not the same has of everyone else, i understand, so to the ones that might like it, i can fully say, i really dislike it. Theres no spark, no motive for me to even look interested. Hope i don't get too bashed for my opinion :S EDIT: To be honest the continuation of this being in China would be epic. (Ninjas!!)
Looks great, but they do need to give the idea that they worked on this one for 3 years (besides jumping through trees for once) I still look forward to it
Actually I agree with you to some extent. I think a european setting would have been more apt for a series that seems to be dedicated to more of an old-world feel where it can play with history because less is known about the period. However, with the very real possibility of French, British, Spanish and American (who by this point are still basically British) forces and characters there is still something european about it. Hell, the new Assassin is of British (and Mohawk) descent. I don't think (and hope to hell) that a French company would let it become too Americanised so we can remain optimistic. My only qualm with that trailer is it only shows Redcoats being killed. One of the better parts of this series IMHO is the political ambiguity of the central characters. Now I am not jumping to conclusions because the E3 trailer for Revelations only showed Ezio fighting one force so subsequent trailers (and the actual game) can still easily be about killing both (or all) sides. The tagline "Ignite the Revolution" is a tad concerning though...
There was quite a few people raging on the youtube video and facebook page about it being "Bullshit American propaganda", though I don't agree with that or what you said. I do agree with some of the other points you said though. I'd have loved to have seen it take place in London.
Ok, while this DOES make me re-interested in the series again, I'm having about the same unease as everyone else with the Americanisation. Yes, the main character may be of British/Native American decent, but Ubisoft is still treading a thin line here between the Americans and the Europeans (Especially the British, given how the events in this game will be) towards balance and who will be the key force of the Templars. I'm hoping its both sides so that neither can be considered the heroes. Who knows, maybe they'll put it off and create a temporal balance.......then again, they could go too lop-sided with one side and will alienate some of their audience.....
I know the game won't end up being like this, but to me, the entire trailer felt like it was pandering to an American audience. Lots of Redcoats being killed. Washington giving a speech etc.
Love the treerunning. Love it!
I like that we'll be able to play in the wilderness more and not just in cities, especially the tree climbing looks fun, although I still would have preferred england but it looks good so far. So, I wouldn't like it if they suddenly sided with one nation but it's just a trailer and it doesn't mean much. I'll have to wait until we hear more information about it to really judge it.
Pretty weak trailer overall. Compare this to the Revelations and Brotherhood trailers and you'll see what I mean. A lot of pandering in it and not enough cool moves on the britjun's part. Also, running through trees, WTF? This looks a lot like Red Dead Redemption: Assassin version more than an actual AssCreed game. Hopefully the actual game is less 'MERICA FUCK YEAH and more killing guys from both sides.
They've been working on this one since AC2 ended. That's a pretty long time for a AssCreed game.
It makes plenty of sense that they'd side with the revolutionaries, in order to weaken the imperialist templar-controlled government of Britain.
I'm talking more about siding with the americans because of patriotic reasons and there are rumors that some of the founders are Templars.
I am a little confused by some of the previously leaked (and apparently legit) info that implies Washington will not be an antagonist, despite having been confirmed by previous canon to be a templar. Based on that, I'm guessing that he is part of a templar splinter group that disagrees with the main templar leadership.
It's not American propaganda. It will probably be similar to what we've seen in AC1. Altair was against the Templars no matter who they were. He didn't take any other side. Connor will probably be the same. And Ubisoft said there will be Templars and Assassins on both sides. And it really can't be an American propaganda. There is nothing to propagate. It was a long time ago. Things were different. British empire was pretty much the embodiment of evil at that time. No one liked them.
I was really turned off from the idea that this was going to be set in America and American Revolution the first time I heard about it. I was also kind of iffy on the idea of a tomahawk-type object being used instead of a hidden blade (as displayed on the box art). But this trailer really looked cool. And even if they do butcher this great series more, I'm still going to be a fangirl and preorder it and all. It looks really cool and I'm willing to give it a shot.
looks sick. can't say why, but the American Revolution setting is kinda excellent for this series. i think its a period of time that could be exploited more by video games.
You do still get a hidden blade. OT: I'm really excited for this game.
Where did it show a hidden blade? O.o
They didn't show it in the trailer, but the developer said that you do.
Really? I was pleasantly surprised by hearing Americans speak with English accents (as they did, then...) and despite being a Brit, I'm kinda psyked for this game... though perhaps prematurely. But I can see myself raging at missing free-running points along the tree-tops and going splat every five metres. Here's to a Napoleonic Wars sequel...
..... Bloody French publisher. You won this round ubisoft. On more serious note, this looks good. I do not believe ubisoft will shoot themselves in the foot and make the story so simplistic as some over sensitive folk are thinking, that's just not the AC way.
The great European cities? The first game was in Israel, how is that European?
Story-wise it really fits. We all know about the urban myths regarding the Masonry Order and all that jazz being a part of the rise and growth of the United States. Environment-wise though, I'm not too sure. I doubt jumping through forests can compare to the thrill of the chase through a sprawling, urban environment. And it's not like American cities during that period were all that cool. If only they had set it during the Civil War. It'd still have the cool Masonry stuff, but at the same time you have those budding cities like New York which are terrific places for that AC feel.
I can't wait for this and historians do say you could travel by tree from one city to another without ever touching the ground, cause the trees were just that dense. Looking at the uniforms the Sons of Liberty wear I take it its 1778 which means the French are already helping out (history wise American before then didn't wear uniforms or had much organization, the French helped with that) so maybe the next game will have us traveling to France as a way to thank them for their help
If you knew how to read, you would notice the part in where i wrote "compare the american cities of that period to the ones from europe". I was not talking about going back in time, but further. And 2 of the assassin's creed games have been in europe so it's a + to my side in the matter of this discussion, started by your question that showed me you didn't even gave the time to read what i wrote.
Same; I hope that the free-running engine has been given a major overhaul, because rapid jumping from tree to tree is the only way I can see it working (the canopy of a forest is nothing like a firm surface). And the Americanization that people are complaining about? It's overblown at this point. AC has mostly avoided political lines, with the protagonists killing everyone that they disagree with. And the developer has said that there will be targets on both sides, so it looks like the "secret war" concept will be intact, with both Templars and Assassins using the politics to further their own ends. You want to get worried? Worry about how Aboriginals are going to be portrayed. My money is on a "Dances With Wolves" style portrayal of the Noble Savage, because that is the only way that the entertainment industry can portray Natives.
The locale itself isn't European per se but you have to remember that this is around the time of the crusades and there was a lot of European influence. In fact AssCreed always jumped between the west and east, first location was mostly eastern, second was fully western and in Revelations we got literally got the city between 2 continents, Constantinopole/Istanbul, the byzantine\ottoman divide. This latest instalment will be fully western but in a location without the aesthetic appeal of Renaissance Italy and worse, pretty close to modern days. I wonder where they will go with this, since guns become pretty reliable after this period of history and I really really don't want AssCreed to be another shooting game.
Really? I think people are only reacting to what Ubisoft is presenting. We have the American flag as a backdrop on the cover(very unusual for Asscreed covers, before we would either have a crowd or the animus effects), the assassin kills only redcoats both in this trailer and in the cover and we get to hear in the trailer that our britjun is siding with the revolution(he even has that blue colour on him). There have been literally zero reasons so far to think that any guys on the american side will be portrayed as evil. Obviously AssCreed won't make it a black and white thing but I'm willing to bet they will heavily lean on the American side of things.
Pulling from the link below, it says that there will be targets on both sides, that not all British are evil and not all Americans are good. Also, they have mentioned that George Washington will be a major part of the game, but previous canon has established him to be a Templar. I am hoping that Ubisoft will stay true to this, and have Connor fall for Washington's heroic facade, do some missions for him, discover his true alliegance, and turn against him. From what I know of American history, Washington's house at Mount Vernon was attacked after he retired, and he died suddenly. While the attacks were historically carried out by the native tenants he was abusing, it's totally plausible that Connor could be behind the attacks, and resorts to poison when they don't work (I know this is speculation, but I think it is both possible and fun). Americans have a rosy view of revolutions, but the French have a much better view of their dark side. I'm hoping that this game will show both the Assassin's Creed archetypes: the man fighting for freedom for others, and the man manipulating the fear of others to make themselves powerful. Showing American colonists robbing the houses of loyalists for personal enrichment would be a great way of keeping their political neutrality while reinforcing the message.
*Watches trailer* And many orgasms were had this day.
OT: I think climbing trees is going to be the coolest thing about this game, it hadn't even crossed my mind before watching this how cool it could be. Also it seems like a relatively interesting period of history...I'm warming up to it. Hopefully it will be good as that will set a precedent for experimentation, which the series really needs.
Sorry if I've been beaten to punch, but they just linked it on the their facebook.
