Poll: Mass Effect 3 multiplayer : Things that annoy you about parts of the community. Pages 1 2 3 4 NEXT
Real Life sometimes calls people away. And sometimes the buggy servers are to blame. If they're leaving early they lose all the XP (and I think credits as well) they would have gotten from the match, so it isn't exactly productive to quit a match early.
While I would rather prefer that people play during times in which they're sure they can finish a match, I understand that it is sometimes unavoidable. I was talking about my own experience however, and my experience with early quitters doesn't match up with what you mentioned above. I have literally checked the status of the people that quit early during my matches. Every single time, their status shows that they've joined a different server. I've even politely asked a couple of people why they quit early and I've always gotten the same answer: "It wasn't going well, so I quit." Nobody enjoys wasting their time on a match, just to be doomed halfway by people who just didn't feel like continuing anymore. My venting isn't aimed at people who had no choice but to leave due to unforeseen circumstances, it's at people who just abandon their team for no good reason.
Unless the match isn't going too well, as XP is linked to performance.
I agree with almost everything you said except the low level one. An experienced player who has promoted his character and has good weapons can do fine on silver. I once joined a silver on a recently promoted lvl 1 engineer and had top score. Of course I had the Carnifex. Also known as the great equalizer, cheating ass gun, kill stealing gun and numerous other titles. I will add my biggest complaints. Both of them have to do with different situations of people starving for kills.
Hey now, I started working on my Quarian Engineer last night, got her up to 10 before joining up with Silver. Two waves in a row (7 and 8) I ended up being the final survivor, kited the enemies like a boss, and took down 3 Geth Primes, 6 Geth Hunters, and a handful of rocket troopers and pyros. Skill can compensate for lack of levels. Well, skill and a Geth Plasma Shotgun. Still, not bad for the lowest level in the room. :P
People joining the wrong difficulties sometimes isn't particularly their fault. The default option sets it to "Any challenge" and the people don't know any better. Or they might just be idiots that are looking for a lucky win to level up their character fast. I don't really mind people leaving, simply because I ask for a very specific map type(Geth/Firebase Dagger/Silver or Gold) so there is a lot of times where I'll get to join a map 5 waves in because someone else has quit. I have quit a few times myself but not out of choice. I have an Asari Vanguard which I swear is bugged, because I lag out and fall through the map without fail every time I use it. As for the upload terminal it's just an error in judgement I guess. The game mechanics have no benefits to greed because all xp and money is shared, so that point doesn't really mean all that much. On the topic of using missiles, at least these people actually use them. It's better than the people who just forget or save them up thinking they'll need it later and never get around to using them. Sometimes high level guys are pretty boring to take out after all so it's hard to blame anyone for doing it. Final point about vanguards, it's because sometimes they're on the other side of the map and it would be really hard to get to them. Sure, if they're close by and you're in a position to revive then go for it, but I'm not going to go to the other side of the map just to get them up, they shouldn't have gone out so far arbitrarily in the first place. Any none of these points annoy me as much as people standing in front of me when I'm trying to snipe or people who attack something I've just hacked, or teams which just ignore the objectives altogether.
I agree with most of that. However, the fact that low level people join silver games is because they probably have it set to "any difficulty" by default and they show up there. But another thing that seriously bothers me is when people kill sabotaged enemies/turrets. WHEN THE GETH IS ORANGE, IT'S HELPING YOU, PEOPLE! It's so annoying when I play as a Quarian Infiltrator against the Geth and I go out of my way to sabotage a Geth Rocket Trooper or Pyro, and they go just as far out of their way to kill it as soon as then can. It makes sense if it's ran out of its use, but if it's helping, don't kill it. *deep breath* Also I hate it when people leave at the last second before a match starts just to screw you over and leave you with three members.
I one time had a glitch where my gun wouldn't' work and I couldn't use powers. I basically wasn't' there anyway so wouldn't I quit?
Agreed with this. I can't even count how many times I've had this happen to me. I'll add some of my annoyances: - If I'm taking cover in a spot that you apparently wanted, don't stand there and melee at me. Just get there faster next time. - If you are the sole reason the team failed the mission, don't speak up (for the first time, mind you) and blame the rest of the team for not being able to play the game. You were the one that ran off, got overwhelmed, and forced us to scramble to save/protect you. - If you see someone get cut down by a Cerberus turret, don't run out in front of said turret to try and revive them.
I actually find Geth more troublesome than Reaper since the patch that buffed Geth. Pyros and Hunters do quite a lot of damage, and Hunters have a bad habit of sneaking up and shotgun blasting you right in the ass. Reapers can be difficult if you get overwhelmed, but I find their normal units much easier to manage. Banshees and Ravagers can be a real problem though, compared to how easy Geth Primes are.
Things that annoy me (in Silver and Gold) - Getting kicked by anyone with a N7 score of 50 or less in a silver run - Infiltrators that do not rez - Engineers, Adepts and Vanguards Carrying both a Sniper Rifle and a Heavy Shotgun - COD kids (Yes the fucking Battlefield Soldiers gives you away), playing only Soldier, whining like little bitches when I rez the Vanguard First if I am playing Infiltrator - Vanguards that go to the other end of the map in the Reactor Lvl and whine and bitch about th infiltrator not getting there in time to rez them. - Krogans that run neck deep into a Banshee and complain when they get one shotted. - Using the Missiles early on in Silver/Gold, instead of saving them for the wave 9-10 hunts - Asaris that think Spamming Heavy Melee means they will survive running neck deep into enemy Forces. - Salarian Engie with a Heavy Shotgun and a Sniper Rifle - Vanguard with an Assault Rifle
On the poll, Reapers have easily got to be the most difficult IMO - Banshees are just massively OP compared to every other enemy in the game. As for what annoys me, right at the moment it's not catching any weapon upgrades - I've got a level 20 infiltrator that's forced to use a Mantis I with nothing but a first-level clip upgrade, because that's all that dropped. I've caught a reasonable number of alien unlocks though, which I got bugger all of in the demo, so I suppose it evens out.
For the first one, normally I kill the bare minimum of enemies to go for the hack because The second one, I figure that it isn't harming me, and it's helping the team...... In the short run. But on bronze, it's pointless to use a rocket..... ever.
The thing that annoys me is the damn lag. My connection is fine, but there is often a noticeable amount of lag. Like when I shoot an enemy in the head and the head explodes a second and a half later. Or when I sprint away from a teleporting Banshee but it somehow still grabs me. Things like that really make it hard to play.
Went ahead and numbered them to make this easier. 1. Hasn't happened to me, but I can definitely see the annoyance factor in that. 2. Again I can see how this would be annoying. As an Infiltrator myself, I know that with the power to cloak-rez, my prefered class is really supposed to be half-medic. 3. Agree completely. 4. Agree completely. But then again I think that anyone playing a Soldier that's not a Krogan is playing a worthless class. :P 5. This one pisses me off to no end. They think their charge-nova-charge-nova combo is god mode...when really it's a "ATTENTION ALL MOBS: SHOT THIS MORON" mode. 6. Anyone that does not IMMEDIATELY get the fuck away from a Banshee deserves to die. But this brings up a bug(?) that really pisses me off as well: anyone notice that the Banshees apparently have tractor beams? I'm super careful around Banshees and had never been insta-killed by one until just yesterday. I was running away from one and literally watched as my character just kinda slowly floated backwards about 20 feet to get grabbed by the Banshee and insta-killed...this has happened twice last night. 7. Seriously, this one is just inexcusable. The only time using a rocket is ok before wave 10 or 11 is if you're on a "Hold the Circle" objective and are truly being overrun. 8. Haven't seen this done, but if it is a wide-spread habbit, it goes right along with what I said about #5. 9. Haven't seen a Salarian Engineer rockin' a sniper rifle AND a shotgun, but the one I was on my team last night was rocking a Widow and nothing else and was actually doing pretty well for himself. Decoy is surprisingly useful/effective in Gold. 10. Fixed this one for you in the quote. :P ........what? Don't look at me like that. Assault rifles are absolutely worthless in Multiplayer.
People who start up a game, then just go get a beer while we sit in the lobby. A problem I had with left 4 dead 1 and 2 Also, one asshole had the audacity to not start a game because I was a level 20 soldier. I HAD to be adept or engineer to be successful on gold. Ironically I left that game and was successful on the next match I searched for.
well, I find myself forgiving the Mattock for a lot of reasons, I just love that gun so much.
Even the Mattock or the Saber? Jeez, the Saber feels like a sniper rifle with an oversized magazine when handled correctly and given a scope. I guess the Carnifex suffices instead? Personally, I can't complain about much; I've only ever played a few matches, all on Bronze as a human Adept. Nothing went spectacularly wrong, although I've noticed a couple of mistakes I made coming up here, so thanks for the advice on how not to annoy your comrades.
That is pretty damn impressive. However, I am certain that you'll agree with me that this isn't the common level of skill to be found online in any community. My experience with most people who play Silver with a character below level ten is basically me reviving them at least three times a round with my cloaking ability due to them being unable to take care of themselves due to lack of skill points or weapons and such.
Ah Carnifex, I love that weapon. If only I could get my hands on one...stupid item pack mechanism. Seriously, while its benefits for the developer/publisher is blatant, it's really annoying for consumers like me. I still haven't been able to get my hands on a decent handgun or sniper. But anyway, please read above. My vents are obviously based on my own subjective experiences and to my experience, very few of these low-level players are able to compensate for their lack of levels with pure skill or weaponry.
That has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. I'd be pissed off if people kept doing shit like this, as they're harming and annoying everybody just because of greed. It's a shame the player review function doesn't work.
I still don't get this. I don't mind not being the strongest member of my team (though due to my two mains being human vanguard and salarian infiltrator, I have an unfair edge above other classes) and I will encourage others to kill as many people as they can. What I don't get is why people focus on enemies that are at the point of getting killed, as you barely get any points for killing such enemies anyway.
For science's sake, there is an entire screen dedicated to that. The game literally doesn't let you join a game before you tell what kind of match you'd like to play. To be fair, battles in latter waves often turn into clusterfucks, with all members trying to cause as much havoc as they possibly can. It's somewhat understandable that some aren't able to differentiate between an ally geth and enemy geth during such moments. I don't think a lot of people know that they're allies either. You mean just after a match starts, right? If you do it before, the countdown resets, giving you time to cancel.
I've never actually seen anyone join mid-battle, nor have I ever been thrown into the middle of a battle. In case of the vanguard, you may have noticed a thread on this site about the exact problem I'm talking about. Some people will literally let the vanguard bleed to death, even if they're standing next to them, just because of the fact that they're vanguards. I obviously understand not running to the other end of a map through countless enemies just to save one person. That's just silly.
I rez whenever I have the chance. In fact, I'll often run to the other side of the map (cautiously) in order to save people. But if I see people bleeding out in the middle of an entire army of enemies (sometimes the case with Vanguards that fuck up or rush a turret), I'm letting them die. My cloak isn't inifite and I'm not going to risk my ass just to save yours if I don't believe I can make it.
fucking lol'd. | |
While this is true for Gold, I have to disagree with you on bronze/silver mode. Unless you charge into shit you can't handle, such as boss enemies, turrets or guardians, you're practically invincible unless you fuck up. Their charge-nova-charge-nova combo is practically god mode on any difficulty below Gold as long as they think before they act. I often separate myself from the group as well when I'm a vanguard, but I rarely die (if ever) and if I do, I deserve to bleed to death.
It's not a bug, just bad design. All of those huge enemies with one-hit kill attacks have specific animations for said attacks. Unfortunately, these one-hit kills are activated the moment the enemies initiate the attack, so if you're standing in front of them when they decide to use it, you're dead no matter what you do.
True, but the wave 11 part slightly depends on the map and the enemy you're fighting. If the LZ is in an isolate area and if you're fighting cerberus, you won't need rockets. It takes Atlas Mechs six centuries to even come close to the LZ, giving you more than enough time to chip away at its health.
Definitely.
Even though I never use assault rifles or smg's (Heavy Pistol only for Vanguard and Sniper rifle only for infiltrator), the Mattock is all right...
Well, as someone who prefers the soldier class, I have to say that Humans aren't totally useless, we're just limited. In order to play soldier effectively, you have to be a cautious player, and be very good at tossing grenades. If you spec right, you can one shot just about any unshielded enemy in a very large radius with one of those things, this coupled with concussive shot makes the soldier a very robust defensive class, ideal for "Hold the Circle" objectives, or any map that allows the group to hold a specific area. I can't really speak to the strengths of any of the other soldier races, as I haven't unlocked them yet, but a properly specced human soldier with either a sniper rifle or a properly upgraded Revenant (For people like me who can't aim worth crap anyway) can be very effective trash killers on Bronze and Silver. I also cannot speak to Gold because that difficulty curve scares the crap out of me.
Same exact thing with me. It frustrates me to no end to see some of my friends who are absolutely terrible with sniper rifles have at least upgraded their Mantis to around five. At least you got a clip upgrade. I've literally gotten nothing in terms of upgrading my sniper rifle. I got the Incisor, which I personally think is garbage for me. I really wish they would have something like, class/weapon packs which could focus the randomness a bit more than just having a chance to get an uncommon or common or rare. Even better would be the ability to trade. >.> I don't really have a lot of complaints about the multiplayer community in general, but I've only really played with either randoms on bronze (and as a decent skilled infiltrator it's pretty easy to not have to pay much attention to things at this level) or with a group of randoms that I got along with in silver.
That is really funny. xD I do agree that it is really frustrating for myself as well when I'm zoomed in on someone and just as I shoot some random ally walks in front of me. I like to think that this was an accident, but it's still just as annoying.
I have the most trouble with Geth. I don't know if this is a difference in their AI or what, but they are really good at flanking me. This makes even the lowly regular Geth Dangerous. They distract me, then a Hunter shows up in the corner of my eye. Then a Pyro sneaks up behind me while I'm engaging the Hunter. Thankfully, they also seem the most susceptible to distraction. They pretty much always will go after Decoys. This definitely helps when I'm the Salarian Engie. As for annoying behaviors...if you're a level 20, you have no business being in Bronze anymore. Bronze is for new players to get used to the game. It's pretty annoying when some experienced player storms in and kind of ruins that learning experience. I have no problem with certain classes being in Silver at a low level. Soldiers and Sentinels can be specced to focus on survivability and gunplay, when means they won't need to be throwing powers around all the time. I just want to know why I'm instantly kicked sometimes when I join a lobby. Did they forget to make a private lobby or something? Because it's definitely not about being underleveled (All but one of my classes are at least at level 15, and three are maxed. My sentinels are level 13). It's not about bad weapons, since I only buy Spectre gear and it has been quite kind to me the last week. It's not about class redundancy, since I will switch classes once I join to fill a role that might not be used already. Sooooo...?
I definitely have to agree about the Sabotage. If I have made us a temporary extra teammate, PLEASE DON'T SHOOT IT
Today, I had an Asari adept on my team using the Widow. As everyone who has a Widow knows, it's weighs about as much as the fucking universe, and severely impedes power cooldown. I don't want to be 'that guy' and tell everyone how to play, but there's a limit on how much stupid I can take.
One good thing about the widow, it penetrates, and it penetrates through allies (unsure of dmg dropoff), but i have killed so many things (enemies mind you) by shooting my allies when they are blocking my view. my pet peeve are people thinking Infiltrators are rez-bots... if you charge that prime, i will rez you ONCE, do it twice and screw you. my mate who i play with (usually krog sold/asari adept) shares the view. i often find myself the lone soldier on a silver map... more so on geth silver/gold because of bloody hunters. Anyone claiming banshees are a pain are wrong.. its the bloody ravagers that kill you.
I tend to use quarian engineer with a carnifex(Freeze-Headshot), or a turian soldier with a revenant(Full marksman, enourmous magazine, extended barrel). My turian is overpowered on bronze, can take out a brute with one magazine on silver, and can exist on gold(not very well mind you, but I can clear out any low level enemies instantly) I have beaten gold with both of these characters but I must say that the turian is stretching it. Without the huge magazine upgrade and specialized ammo he is difficult to use on gold. In terms of annoyance, I really can't stand when I start using marksman, get several kills really fast, then watch as a Vangaurd runs in and novas half the enemies offscreen. Then they all get up and proceed to murder him from just out of my sight range. This happens to often. Mostly with geth hunters and rocket troopers. Also just for clarification, Marksman does last pretty long and I really do not need people running in to screw with my firing lane. Trust me, the bullets won't stop.
It's actually much easier to kill whatever you sabotage. You essentially turn dangerous enemies into helpless sitting ducks, it would be better to take them out NOW instead of sitting around 10 seconds waiting for them to stop STANDING AROUND WASTING SABOTAGE TIME before using the last 4 seconds to attack something.
This is a rare occurance, but there was one player...one player who annoyed the living shit out of me. Playing on silver, and all he would say on the voice chat was 'aww yeah', 'you guys suck', and 'I rule, guys'. Not only was this shameless self-pandering and egotistical, but he was also the one I continually had to go out of my way to rez. Sure, he ended up in first place, but only because he was a vanguard that continually ran into huge groups and tried to take them all on, only to get downed by the last one or two of them, or get insta-killed by a banshee (seriously? to all vanguards/krogans, BANSHEES ARE NOT JUST ANOTHER ENEMY TO RUSH AT AND TRY TO MELEE TO DEATH...THEY WILL KILL YOU FIRST, YOU STUPID BASTARDS) and spend the next thirty seconds cursing out every other player in the game for failing to rez him, though by that point, I think we were all so annoyed with him that we were ignoring him. Even when I ended up essentially beating round 8 for the team because he was stupid enough to rush in mindlessly for the uptillionth time, he offered a begrudging 'well, you're not terrible', before starting to insult every other player in the game again. Beyond that guy? Sure, there are things in the multiplayer that just piss me off. Adepts, Engineers running around with widows, for one. Honestly, the class is designed to USE THE DAMN POWERS. Don't throw that away for the opportunity for a heavy ass gun that does you absolutely no good at close range, without the ability to even get further away (like the tactical cloak with infiltrators? Yeah, it's not only for revving, guys, it's for getting the hell away from the big nasties that like coming up behind you.) Krogans and Vanguards that rush banshees, brutes, or atlas mechs on silver and gold... Honestly, just because it worked on bronze does not mean you're going to be able to headbutt them into submission at this point in time. Most likely scenario, you're about to get a hand stuck through your chest and die. Am I going after you? Hell no. I'll stay back and work on them from a distance where they can't just kill me instantly. Honestly, you get more points if you don't get killed... It just works that way. The one thing that really gets to me, though, no matter what class is doing it, are those players who think they're so accomplished and godly that they stay as far away from every other teammate as they can, because they want to get the highest score. If they get downed, there's no way that anyone else on the team is going to run through the two ravagers, two brutes, and a banshee to rez them because honestly, that's suicide in its own right. I've never seen a player good enough to survive on their own when they draw the pack towards them on gold. It just doesn't happen...maybe once in a long...long time. And then there's the people who quit mid game. I know, from time to time, the system just disconnects you, but sometimes it's just blatantly obvious that they do it intentionally. Namely, when there's one survivor on the team, and they quit without even waiting to see the end. Not only does this rob you of the rewards if they do die, but 30-40% of the time, a single person can whittle down the remaining enemy one by one by moving constantly and not getting surrounded. That's worth it, in my book, and I've always been proud of the people able to do that and bring their team back at the end of the round, even perhaps eventually winning the entire match. Does that person feel badass? Hell yes. I know I do, the times I manage to do it. Seeing that 'Full Extraction' flash up on the screen when only a few rounds ago, you were desperately scrambling to survive is a very empowering feeling, especially on silver and gold, when two banshees and countless brutes come rushing towards the extraction point with your blood on their minds. Watching that counter tick few the last few second while spamming bullets and powers in a desperate attempt to make it is a heady feeling... It's one of the main reasons I enjoy the multiplayer so much. EDIT - Oh, and human vanguards? Don't use nova in a group of three or more enemies... IT REMOVES YOUR SHIELDS, dammit... Not something you want when you just used your biotic charge to get into danger in the first place, and can't use it again for the next few seconds...
I play a Quarian infiltrator also and I can sympathise with both situations, I believe people shouldn't kill the hacked NPC if it's busy killing other units and isn't going to be a threat when it's no longer hacked. However if it's not going to help much even fighting for us then yeah by all means kill it while it's helpless, I believe it's more of a situation dependant situation as to if you should let it help or shoot it.
Reapers are the hardest by far. They have far too many enemies with Insta-kill moves. Ravagers will also TEAR you UP. Basically, Reapers > Cerberus > Geth
That. That right there. Why? When I get a phone call in the middle of the match, I put my character in cover and answer the phone. Sure, I am pretty much just a bullet sponge until I'm done, but at least I'm (temporarily) distracting the enemy. At least, if I get off the phone quickly (and I usually do - either because it's a telemarketer or a friend who I can say "hey, I'm playing ME Multiplayer, call you back?" to), I can rejoin the battle. What annoys me even more - people who quit while they're dead. I think to myself "do you really not have the patience to wait while the rest of us finish off the level?". I wait - because, on Silver (the best compromise between good Credit output and survivability), 4 times out of 5, the rest of my team CAN pull it off, even if I get killed for some reason.
And this. Although, for me, it's usually people who use up all their Medi-Gel early. Why? Your team-mates can revive you! Just wait a few seconds. Usually, before level 6, I will bleed out rather than waste a precious Medi-Gel. You need those things for levels 7-10. Actually, I apply that rule to pretty much all my resources. If it isn't wave 6 yet, I don't spend anything. Unless I'm on Gold. Then, if an Atlas is standing next to a Phantom - hell yeah I use it. In Gold, I just want to make it through wave 6. Everything after that is gravy (never survived past Gold wave 10, even with my best character).
exactly, reapers don't really have an easy one hit kill blow or easy way to take em down, with geth it's hilarious when you have more than one party member with overload fully upgraded, it just destroys the geth, and the carnifex is a fucking tank for any class versus cerberus, when you can get 6-8 kills in 10 seconds if your decent at headshots.
I hate people who never press the "READY" button. If they don't get ready within 20 seconds, they re getting kicked. Also, Geth is a lot harder than Reaper or Cerberus. Why? Rocket troops and pyros, nuff said.
I find reapers the hardest by far. Any team with an asari can wreck Cerberus's shit with relative ease. Same goes for geth if you have someone with sabotage or overload. Reaper troops however have no such weaknesses. As for things that annoy me: - Folks, kindly keep your level 20 arses out of my bronze matches. I'm trying to level my poor little engineers here.

So, after having finished the Mass Effect 3 campaign, I decided to try out to multiplayer for a couple of rounds, just to see what it feels like. Before I knew it, I was hooked and I've been playing it extensively for the last week or so. I haven't played Gold that often yet due to my awful luck at getting the right items (severely underpowered weapons).
However, there are a couple of things that happen quite often that grind my gears. I was wondering what kind of annoyances others have come across and whether my bad experiences with the community is a common one. Anyway...
The things that bug me:
- Why do people keep joining silver difficulty teams when they're below the level of ten? In my experience, there has not been a single match in which these people didn't hold the entire team down. The moment that things start getting a bit tough, these are always the players who die first or quit early...which brings me to my next point...
- Why the hell do people keep quitting early? I've had people join a server, just to leave right in the middle of it. Do they not understand that you're screwing over other people of your team and lower their chances of success if you just disconnect from the group like that? This isn't always a huge problem in silver, but this happens in gold as well and this nearly always results in the rest of the team getting killed. I don't care if you suck, just keep playing. Any help is better than no help. Besides, you're another target enemies can focus on.
- Guys, if there is an enemy right next to the upload terminal, don't just ignore it and start uploading. The thing isn't going anywhere. Stop being so fucking greedy for a few credits/points!
- People who do this, would you please stop wasting your rockets on lone atlas mechs during the first few rounds that they appear? We can just chip away at their health right now, so please stop wasting these on early enemies and keep them for later waves.
- Don't ignore the good vanguard, even if he/she is wrecking the entire level. Good vanguards are usually the main source of power and by letting them die, you're basically harming the group.
So, what kind of behavior have you all encountered that annoyed you?
Oh, I'll just add that I play a Salarian Infiltrator. Pretty awesome class, although a lot of people start to rely on you to revive them. I don't really mind, as long as they don't die in a hopeless area. My cloak doesn't last that long.
