-Vanguards that charge into everything, but the second a boss comes up, they leave you to deal with it.

I partially do this. I will wreck anything that moves, but will fall back a bit and start chipping at a boss enemy's health (or start wrecking things elsewhere) and depend on you guys to kill it. What exactly do you expect me to do? Due to my awful luck with getting weapons, I have no viable option against most boss enemies with one-hit kills. My source of power is charge-nova and you can already guess the consequences of charging into one-hit kill enemies.

I was mostly talking vanguards who just leave, and don't even bother shooting at it from a distance. They go charge off the distant soldier, and too often, die alone.

-Infiltrators with Mantis. Great, you can fire once, then have to reload...you realise you could do more damage by taking advantage of having the damage buff that lingers after coming out of cloak? While you can one shot that Cerberus soldier, I'd much rather you kill the engineer by shooting several times.

I think you misunderstood something about the class. I use a mantis because I can't get my hands on a better weapon, but I can still one-shot anything. The point of infiltrators is to use energy drain to immediately remove any non-boss enemy's shields/barriers and kill them with a single shot from your sniper rifle while they're stunned.

You know you can use a shotgun, right? ANd I think you misunderstand something yourself: the damage buff lingers for a few moments. Using a single shot weapon might do more damage on the fire hit, but you lose a HUGE amount of damage.
Case and point, on bronze, with a Mantis, you can do maybe 1/4 of a Brute's hp with the damage buff from cloak. If you hit every 6 shots from a Viper, which takes less time than shooting, then reloading the Mantis, you do 1/2 the damage.
So yeah, using a one shot sniper rifle with cloak and a waste of dps.

Exocet:

With the Mantis I'd agree with you. The damage on it is pretty high, but even with a Mantis X and Extended Barrel V, it's still possible to need more than one shot to kill a target. I have a Mantis X and an Viper II, and I'd rather use the Viper in nearly all situations for that reason. Hell, I'd rather use the Raptor I that I have in nearly all situations too. The only sniper rifle I have that I'd take the Mantis over any day is the Incisor IV that I have... that gun is a piece of shit.

I definitely don't agree with you on single-shot rifles when it comes to the M-98 Widow though. That gun is pretty damn awesome.

It really all depends on your class. Anything without cloak? OK, the Widow is god. With cloak? You need to fire more than once, or waste a lot of damage.
I'm pretty sure the black widow is the best. 3 very high damage shots. Perfect ratio between damage and rate of fire.

Exocet:

You know you can use a shotgun, right?

We can only lower the weight of Snipers by 30% with one of our skill trees.

As a vangaurd I hate when my teammates are shooting the enemies I am in middle to beating to death, while there is a group of other enemies shooting me in the back with sniper rifles.

I am a vangaurd I can fight off huge numbers of enemies but don't bitch and moan when I don't come to save you while you are dying next to a atlas and 2 phantoms, even a great infiltrator would have a hard time getting you.

Fellow vangaurds I know that our charge, nova combo is awesome and fun, but you have a gun, when you are dying stay behind cover and use that.

Fellow vangaurds we are there to aggro enemies and survive the damage by using biotic charge, so when you ENGINEER FRIEND, is beign shot by a atals and turrets so they can use their abilities, go in and aggro them, even if it kills you, your team will be more likely to survive in the long run.

well i just played the demo, sure I would have more complaints if I played the full game and experienced all the maps and fought all the enemies.

Don't disagree on the Black Widow. Easily the best, but also an "ultra rare" from the crates, so not something readily available.

I still disagree on the Widow though. With Tactical Cloak, being able to put a round down range that can one-shot pretty much anything short of a boss will instantly remove a high-threat enemy from the field. I'd rather be able to instantly take a Rocket Trooper out with one shot before it can return fire than have to wait for the Viper to fire multiple rounds at the target, giving it a chance to not only return fire but also duck behind cover or dodge.

Not to mention that with each additional round fired, your chances of missing the target are going to increase. If the first round doesn't kill the enemy, it might duck or dodge just as you fire the second or third time.

The only time I can really say that a Semi-Automatic sniper rifle would outclass the Widow with regard to Tactical Cloak usage would be against something like a Ravager, Brute, or Atlas. Big easy targets that are practically impossible to miss and not going to go out of their way to dodge your attacks. And even then, I don't think it would outclass the Widow enough to warrant having the overall weaker weapon in all other situations.

That and most of the Infiltrators I've seen that use semi-automatic rifles like the Viper or Valiant tend to be less careful about their shot placement. Not exactly something I can penalize the weapon for, but it's something I've noticed across pretty much any game with sniper rifles. The faster the weapon's rate of fire, the less careful people are about lining up their shots, and the more complete misses that get fired. This is probably going to be less of an issue in Gold though, since the people playing there take things far more seriously.

This game just went evil on us...
It gave us a "upload the data, stay in the circle" objective. And it spawned all the enemies right around the circle (two Geth Primes, six Pyros, three rocket troopers, and I don't know how many hunters).

Evil.

All right, I am now one of the people who absolutely despises the item pack mechanics. I have bought around twelve spectre packs by slowly and painfully grinding money. And yet, I have yet to see a single Widow or Asari Adept.

Seriously, this is starting to annoy me. Is there any way to rack up credits a bit faster? I only get like 30k every twenty minutes.

I have never seen a Vangaurd with a sniper rifle, so I've been assuming that when people talk about that, it's hyperbole.

I'd probably shut my console off and volunteer in a homeless shelter or something to restore my faith in humanity if I actually witnessed a Vanguard with a Sniper rifle.

Higher difficulties are worth more credits... but the games also seem to take longer... so it's probably a wash. So far I've found Silver to get me the most credits-per-hour, but even then, yeah... I'm probably only getting 30k or so every 20 minutes like you.

You could always buy Spectre crates with EA/BioWare FunBucks™!

Played with a level 20 Drell Vanguard this morning who was using the M-98 Widow AMR and the Geth Plasma Shotgun. He didn't actually do that badly... but that's not to say he did particularly well, either.

Izzy1320:

EDIT - Oh, and human vanguards? Don't use nova in a group of three or more enemies... IT REMOVES YOUR SHIELDS, dammit... Not something you want when you just used your biotic charge to get into danger in the first place, and can't use it again for the next few seconds...

Actually, with upgrades, you can pull off about 2 or 3 Novas and lose only about half shields.

5. Vanguards, stop being a kill stealing prick when people are lining up shots/setting up combos. Yes, the Charge is a very cool ability, but if you zoom your ass into trouble, don't get pissy when no one runs to save your dumb ass.

wouldnt it prove more effective to set up the vanguard for bio explosions?

I know I do this when I play as an adept with a Vanguard in the group, all I do is follow the Vanguard around setting shit up for him/her.

Of course they would be, but I've never once seen a Vanguard who's train of thought went past "CHARGE IT!"

Reapers are by far the hardest followed by the phantom, I swear those bastards are a pain in the ass to kill by yourself.

What annoys me are teammates who decide to go in different directions and end up dying far away, bah it's a pain to rez them

My attitude towards Reapers in multiplayer after maxing out Adept is to just laugh at them. Biotic combos melt Brutes and Ravagers no problem

You sir have obviously forgotten the fearsome banshee

Banshees aren't so bad after you realize you can they're ponderously slow walking pace when they're done jumping around. They melt to Biotic and Tech combos just like everything else.

Like I said, set it up for him to cause the explosion.

If you play Asari Adept put a stasis bubble in front of him with the combo bonus and watch as he denotates with a charge and freezes everything in the screen.

If you are a Human, spam warp, if you are a drell and you arent spamming reave, then you are doing it wrong.

If team mates dont fall into line, adjust your own battle plan to make the best of them, use them.

Here are a few tips for playing with vanguards:

Adept, I already said what needed to be said

Soldier, concussive shot, carnage, proximity mine and an automatic to give him support fire, sometimes the Vanguard will not kill everything he Nova Charges but he will leave them weak enough to kill em with 1 or 2 shots.

Engineer, You must always be spamming either Energy Drain or Overload, in any and all situations, failing that your second spam skill will always be incinerate.

Sentinel, Same as Engie, Overload, Incinerate, with the added addition of covering fire if you are carrying an Assault Rifle.

Infiltrator, welcome to headshot city, the vanguard just left everyone wide open for headshots, take them.

Vanguard, Wait until they charge nova, then save their asses with your own charge nova, if 2 vanguards aim at the same group of enemies, odds are there will be nothing left standing after the first wave of attacks, follow the other vanguard and continuously take advantage of anything he didnt kill.

If you play Asari, always stasis bubble before he charges, then follow him in when the explosion happens. If you are a drell, you are the god damn flash and you will charge in and beat the ever living fuck out of everything with your lighting kung fu frog man skills.

Pro tip, if you want to increase your odds of rares you want, dont start off with Spectre packs, you will have a faster time getting the items you want and stockpiling stuff you need like equipment by buying veteran packs at the very beggining.

once you have stockpiled enough medigels, OPS packs, missles and *narf* ammo packs, you will probably have 3 or 4 good guns and a some characters.

So basically you're saying that I should keep to veteran packs and I'll come across the items I want while stockpiling other consumable items? Or do you mean that if you stockpile enough items, they'll stop appearing in item packs, making more room for important unlockables?

Both

They stop appearing, once you get the Avenger X you will no longer see the avenger, in fact if you run 100k in recruit packs you will stop getting the basic weapons allthogether and will only be getting human character cards.

so yes, buy vet packs until the shitty guns are all gone then start going for spectre packs when you think you are ready.

Won't that take a ridiculous amount of time though? There are a lot of unlockables to be found in veteran packs and I would probably be able to buy tons of spectre packs with that kind of money. Not to mention that I will still have to buy tons of Spectre packs in order to unlock and upgrade the gear I want.

Its going to take less time than buying a spectre pack, getting several shit uncommons and a rare you dont even want.

60k will net you everything you need from the recruit packs

60k will also net you 3 vet packs that 30% of the time drop a good rare or a good uncommon.

If you feel like you dont want to waste so much time with stuff, add me(xbox) and Ill help you do silver runs, every successful one will net you around 4Xk.

Hmm, all right. I'll stick to recruit packs first and step over to veteran packs when I stop getting shitty weapons and such. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks. It's not really a problem to get through silver most of the time though. I'm just bummed out that I won't be able to fight on gold for a while due to shitty luck with items.

I made an account, literally to post on this thread. Something just happened about a minute ago that is just unfair. Picture this:

Wave 7. Firebase Glacier. Silver Challenge. The Reapers are coming from every direction, it's all I can do to not drop my weapon with fear. An explosion stumbles me and a cannibal takes his chance. I'm down. One of my kind hearted team mates comes to my rescue, finishing off the cannibal and revives me. Before I even stand up, I'm being sucked into a Banshee's tractor beam of death (read that on RJ 17's post. Made me lol.) and suddenly I have a hand through my chest.

Seriously?!?!?!? Isn't there some sort of spawn/revive protection? And to top it all off, the only two of my team left standing die, so we lose... I don't understand how that's fair. It's just aggravating to me that because the Banshee's instakill has an animation, that I must die because she started it as I was being revived.

Also, I hate the pack system as well... I want my Turian Sentinel... Please, BioWare, please!

One last thing. Have to agree with (sorry can't remember your name), but this thread is cursed. All night, I hadn't got a single vanguard who was Charge-Nova-ing...ing. Three matches in a row and I get one. =(
