Rumours circulate of possible GTAV features

NOTE: Before anyone gets all hot and bothered, these are only rumours, and the source cannot be confirmed.

I just wanted to bring attention away from Mass Effect 3 for a moment.

A user on the Official Gamespot forums claims to be a friend of one the Rockstar North's former employees. This former employee is now under no contractual obligation towards secrecy, and may have spilled a large tin of beans over some features of GTAV.

taken from the post:

Hello!

I am a friend of someone who recently got sacked from RockStar North for general misconduct. Because one contract to RockStar covered everything, including secrecy, and his contractual obligaton was now removed, he was legally allowed to spill the beans on Rockstar's upcoming GTA V. And he is making damn sure everyone knows about it.

Here is the info you really want:

1. The protagonist will be one character, and one character alone. His name is (as some rumours said) Albert De Silva. He's a half hispanic man who was once part of a crime family in Vice City. He decided to settle down and have kids in Los Santos. He has one son called Kevin De Silva who is your stereotypical CoD player. He's lazy, useless and shouts racial abuse online and is really into FPS games. Kevin does admire his Dad though.

2. Multiplayer will hold 32 people on the Xbox and PS3. I wasn't told how many were able to be on the PC. Just like in RDR, players will be able to form Gangs. These gangs are not ranked through XP anymore, but via Reputation. Instead of gang hideouts, you can do jobs that range from robbing a launderette to breaking into a military base and stealing state-of-the-art weaponary. The Gang leader has much more control over his or her gang by being able to rank members of their gang and setting more specific objectives to specific members of their gang. Gangs can have their own terratory but this only applies to areas inside the city of Los Santos.

3. The map is about 5x as large as the GTA IV map and the City of Los Santos takes up just under half of this area (so it's a bit bigger than 2 GTA IV Liberty Cities).

The map is (like most GTAs) seperated into three different sections. 4. Planes are flyable, they range from World War 2 fighter planes to Private Jets.

5. Cars and guns are customisable to an extent, for example, you can cusomise a gun to have a supressor on it and you can install nitrous into cars.

Here's some stuff you might like:

1. The protagonist is the "rich guy" from the GTA V debut trailer. You get to learn more about this man in the second when he talks about his troubles. You only see the protagonist twice in the trailer. First time is the side of his face and second time is when he is driving a Deceptor (Audi R8). The people robbing the jewellery store are just with the protagonist. He is driving the van ready to get away.

2. Gunfights are more realistic. When you are shooting a gun out of a window of a car, depending on how fast it's going you will have troubles aiming due to shaking cameras.

3. The game is due in May 2013. A more specific date has not been decided because the game is still needing 6 months to be fully developed. They will have a playable demo at E3.

4. Police chases are now way more than either running or driving. Depending on how wanted you are, police may bring out riot shields and flash bangs. 5. When someone reaches 4 star wanted level, there will be a radio warning on some stations.

6. Radio stations now do traffic reports that are actually correct. So if you don't know what route to take, you can check the traffic reports on your phone or the radio. 7. The in-game TV now has many more channels

8. The protagonist DOES NOT die unlike in the last two Rockstar games.

9. The underworld actually has a working economy that you can contribute too by buying and selling drugs, weapons and illegal cars in single player.

10. The protagonist can take drugs which will have some effects. But smoking weed on the streetwalk will lead to getting a one star wanted level.

11. Police cars will go after you if you're obviousely breaking the speed limit. Having high speed crashes will also damage your health.

Wanted levels:

1 star - police follow you on foot and try to make an arrest. No sirens, no car chases (unless you are speeding).

2 star - police will still attempt to make an arrest. If a weapon is drawn then the police will begin opening fire. Police will use stun guns if a weapon is not drawn.

3 star - Chases begin and the police don't care how they stop you, they just want to do it.

4 star - road traps, radio stations and much more hostile police.Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 24 in-game hours for someone matching your description.

5 star - shoot to kill, arrest only if it's made very possible. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 48 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Few missions become unavailable if you are wanted.

6 star - military vehicles come after you. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 72 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Some missions become unavailable if you are wanted.

It was deleted by Gamespot moderators shortly after posting (indeed, the first reply was by a former moderator), which may lend SOME evidence towards this being true. However, take things like this with a pinch of salt, as always.

People always spread wild GTA rumors. I don't believe in any of this no matter how much I'd like this to be true.

I hope they have a nice range of customizing options. Only options nico had was look like a douche, or look like a broke douche.

Good God please be true! This would certainly be awesome! but May '13? Not cool!

Even if none of this IS true, still, must have this game!
I love Rockstar's massively open-world multiplayer, it's full of win.

and thank you for making an interesting topic outside of ME3...Getting a tad bored of all that now!

Yes captcha, yes.

If this is true...

I dont think it is though. As for a moderator shutting the thread down... Well, if I opened a thread on this website claiming to be a former Rockstar employee it would get locked too.

You're very welcome.

What interests me is the part about the map size. If it truly is 5 times the size of GTA IV, then I for one will be getting it just to see if my rig can handle it. That is an epic scale to build a game on.

His #8 firmly placed it in the "pawning off a suggestion list as a feature list in the hopes some dev will get ahold of it". The reason is simple: any game slated to release a full year from now wouldn't have its full storyline AND features mapped out, from start to finish, and set in stone.

It doesnt really sound that far fetched guys, these sound like just regular features they'd add.

Sounds awesome. On the ridiculous level of awesome even.

Not holding my breath, and not getting my hopes up, but if half of that is true it's shaping up nicely.

I'll take that all with a pinch of salt but if it's true that all sounds pretty awesome apart from two things. The way shooting from a car is harder and having police search for you even after you have lost them. They just sound like a pain in the arse that will only hurt the fun of the game to me.

Very true this.

However, there might just be a lick of truth to this one. Alot of major developers have allegedly just laid off their old Lighting Technicians due to a new technological upgrade that's left their very specific skillset obsolete.

There's been leaks from Square-Enix and Bioware over the last few days as well.

I really like the map news. Plus this confirms (if it's true)that we are back in Las Santos. Sounds good!

Oh yippee. The one thing GTA needed was the gunfights to become MORE realistic. Yeesh.

Wait, did Niko die at the end of GTA IV? I honestly don't remember him dying.

5 times as big? I hope it wont all be empty buildings. But more stores and shops where you can buy or rob stuff.

Yanno... if it doesnt have "endings with colors" as a feature, I want no part of it!

Seriously, I just cant get into GTA any more. San andreas was enjoyable for about the first half of the game, but it drug on, and on, and on and on.

GTA IV was even worse. So the prospect of a map being 5 times as large as GTA IV is really scary because they dont make a map larger to make it more empty. So that would imply they are going to be giving even more of the same tedious ass crap missions.

Sometimes less is more.

Depends how they do it. If they spot you every time it will be annoying but if it involves you staying around a police officer for a certain length of time before they notice you it will be alright something along the lines of assassins creed guards spotting you.

It doesn't look like they've managed to get the entire storyline mapped out (Although Rockstar do tend to focus on that first). There are some character details but it's not exactly comprehensive. Also, devs don't usually go surfing on the internet to find suggestions for a game that is already halfway through development.

Although, you are right in that these features aren't set in stone. If it's true, then this is what this person knows NOW. Nothing is set in stone, and some, if not all of these listed features may be changed/removed by release.

This sounds more like marketting for the game than a disgruntled employee. I call BS.

Indecipherable:

As if a GTA game needed any.

He didn't. But:

I never said devs do that. Only that its possible that the poster of that list on gamespot THINKS they do...

God almighty, I hope all of this is true. If not part of it. 'Cause if it is...

''Cum sequence initiated...
Cum sequence on stand-by.''

[Streetwise]Sounds good. Almost too good to be true...

Sounds really good, but I wish I could have these questions answered:

In GTA V it was better to die than to be arrested... Is there any reason for you to allow yourself to be arrested? For example, if you crash and get a single star, can you just pay a fine and be done with it?

Is money actually worth something this time around? And by that I mean something else than using money to get mroe money in the underground economy. Am I able to make millions in the drug trade and buy estates, cars etc. etc.?

Is the shootin' and killin' actually fun and in more interesting environments than last time?

Are buildings just blocks of concrete you can't enter?

Durgiun:

I did that for the trailer.

Bit of an inflammatory topic to achieve that goal. Surely he'd have known that it would get blocked (We know how much GS would hate to be in Rockstar's bad books).

He might have actually got more success on the Rockstar forums because, you know, people pay attention to them.

Seriously. This. I played GTA IV recently and realized that I had thousands of dollars, and nothing to spend it on.

OT: I'm not getting my hopes up for anything until it's officially confirmed by Rockstar.
Also, GTA V should have zombies. Like an Undead Nightmare DLC thing. Just sayin'.

I called the 26th of May 2013 when I first saw the trailer, hope it's true, my mate has to by me the game if I get it right!

If this is real I'm pretty pumped about it.

Some interesting features. Definitely pumped for the game either way if this is legit or not; let's be honest, it's gonna be a masterpiece.

What I will say though is that there's an unnecessary spoiler on number '8.' which kiiiinda annoyed me because...I didn't know about that haha. But maybe I'm just touchy.

Well GTA IV was too 'real' and boring with only the bank mission being the real fun of the game and this sounds even worse. I just don't see the appeal of this level of realism in any game, this is why Saints Row just took over. Far more crazy, far more fun and just 10x more batshit.

While I agree, there is a certain level of craziness associated with GTA games (Maybe not IV). The return of flyable planes will no doubt cause hilarity for some people, but Temperance is a virtue, and there is some appeal of the realistic aspects of gaming, otherwise they wouldn't be made.

We'll just have to wait and see. Rockstar does tread a fine line, especially with San Andreas, so let's hope Rockstar can rekindle some of that fire (James Woods, anyone?)

I'm sure it's fun for some, personally I don't get it. I assumed the main reason for playing games were to escape reality/problems/have fun. I don't see playing a realistic game as being fun, in a GTA styled game I want to see crazy things happen. In IV the amount of realism was depressing and annoying, the cellphone was just as annoying as it is in reality and such.

Each to their own!

I guess you have to see it like this: In Saints Row, the funnies are there fom the start. Everything is batshit crazy. If, like me, you spent a lot of time on SR2, then some of the jokes just... aren't funny. Whereas, in GTA, where everything is mellow and quasi-realistic (I mean, come on, what are the chances that Nico could be pushed quite THAT far into the criminal underworld so quickly?), when something funny happens, it really takes one by surprise. Also, I see a LOT more videos of people arsing about in GTA 4 than in SR3 (see: Bloopers, Glitches and Silly Stuff).

captcha: mad science. Touche...

Would rather have Bully 2 rumors...
I'll likely be sitting this one out. I thought Grand Theft Auto 4's city was too big and tedious to get around in. I'd really love for Rockstar to release another Bully-style game, with a sensibly-sized world and fun ways to travel through it.

Boyninja616:
under no contractual obligation towards secrecy

No way. Any company is gonna make you sign an NDA, which persist even if he's not employed, according to terms stipulated in the article. Rockstar is too big to have a loophole like that, even if the NDA is in the employment agreement.

So this all sounds like lies to me.

Some of them i even HOPE are lies...
