If you had to live anywhere in Skyrim...

It doesn't have to be a city, does it? The Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary is a nice place. Cozy, warm, dark, and you're with friends! A nice steady income and adventure comes along with it, and it's pretty safe (talking door, yaaaay).

Do I have to live on the cobble-stones then? I pick Riverwood. Next to a major city without all the hustle and bustle of Whiterun.

(Also, I'm pretty sure I'd punch the Talos nut in the face IRL)

And me and my friends would batter you halfway to death with clubs you Thalmor sympathising imperial scum.

OT: Probably Morthal. A bit out of the way, calm and nice. But not too far from the biggest city :3

i like this man. in fact... "i love, LOVE, LOVE YOU!" haha.

but yeah, anyone who supports the cowardly imperials or their elven overlords deserves only immediate death by way of khajiit. (see my previous comment)

The dwarf/elf city deep underground with the luminescent glowy lights and stuff is pretty sweet.

Markarth. Why you say?

Temple of dibella ;)

Whiterun decent sized city and ran by someone that actually seems to think before doing something

I'd live as my Argonian battlemage in solitude boning Jordis the sword maiden all day.....

Either that, living in my archmage quarters in winter hold would be great, when I get cold, fire spells

STORMMMMMCLOOAK! I'm a emperor-lovin' Imperial!

Hmmm, going to get some stick for this, but I say the Thalmor Embassy. Firstly, Talos is a man, not a Divine. Secondly, I dig their sweet robes! :)

*Puts up steadfast ward against incoming flames.*

you disgust me. blasphemous elf lover! the only reason the aldmeri dominion denies Talos' ascension is because they don't feel humans AS A WHOLE can be anything special. to deny Talos is to deny humanity a fair spot among the elves.

besides, he was good enough for akatosh, so to deny talos is to go against akatosh as well, and i really don't think you wanna do that.

watch where you lay your head tonight blasphemer! you never know which shadows might have a khajiit lurking in them, bow drawn with an arrow tipped in a particularly painful brew of Damage Health.

sweet mother, sweet mother, send your child unto me. for the sins of the unworthy must be baptized in blood and fear.

Hmmm, the Khajiit are going to be a problem, then? I suppose I shall have to take my battles...Elsweyr. :)

I have to go with Whiterun. From the get go it felt like what I would want my hometown to be, big enough but not too big. Well policed by guards(and companions/werewolves), a sensible Jarl and pleasant countryside. Who wouldn't want to live there.

you cowardly elves wouldn't last a day in the sandy dunes of Elsweyr. Summerset Isle will run red, you have my word.

Abandoned shack

As expected, nobody likes Windhelm.
I'd probably go with Whiterun. I like the place, really. It's calm and stuff, and you've got a guild of fighters just next to your door, ready at hand.

My choice is Markarth, for that amazing Dwemer architecture.
Bear in mind that my decision is based on what I saw of Vlindrel Hall.

Solitude, by a long shot. Beautiful natural scenery, an orderly well kept city with plenty of amenities, a relatively safe surrounding area, reasonably calm weather patterns, stable government. Probably the highest standard of life for a regular peasant, provided you're not a Stormcloak revolutionary.

Windhelm and Winterhold have violent inclement weather, and besides that, Winterhold is a burned out wreck for non-mages, and Windhelm is poorly maintained, poorly governed, and has a sizeable slum. Falkreath is poorly protected, is in the heart of dangerous wilderness, and has an undesirable element close by (Dark Brotherhood). Markarth has questionable government, is built overtop of lethal ruins, and suffers constant Forsworn invasions. Riften is a hotbed of crime and corruption. Whiterun is probably the only other significant holdfast that could give Solitude a run for its money. But it has that faction war inside the city walls, and on at least one occasion we see a giant blundering into the farmsteads, so it loses by a nose.

Falkreath, it has got the most beautiful natural surroundings in my opinion, it's got all the shops I need and the town is the very epitome of peace and quiet.

Sovngarde...hands down. Jorrvaskr in Whiterun is a distant second.

Falkreath, Riften, maybe Markharth if we're talking major settlements.

To be perfectly honest, I'm really jealous of those hunters I keep running across in the wilderness. I also like the Khajiit caravans and wish that they had more content associated with them.

Can I pick Sovngarde?

That place seems pretty damn great....when Alduin isn't eating everyone.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the Aldmeri Dominion already HAS claimed Elsweyr. You're behind the times mate ;)

"Within fifteen years, Imperial influence in Elsweyr had so diminished that the Empire was unable to respond effectively to the coup of 4E 115 which dissolved the Elsweyr Confederacy and recreated the ancient kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine as client states of the Aldmeri Dominion. Once more the Empire failed to stop the advance of Thamor [sic] power."

Don't get me wrong though: I HATE the Thalmor.

OT: I would probably live Falkreath or Whiterun.

I would pick Solitude for that reason, I love the area around the city, and all the shops for what I need are there. Plus, it helps that I don't get hasseled because of my character being a Khajiit. It's one of few cities that I actually enjoy going to outside of Whiterun, and I hate going to Winterhold. That place just sucks.

I like Solitude so that would be my pick.

Whiterun, with my hubby in Jorrvaskr

Maybe Whiterun, I've always had a soft spot for the tundra.

On the other hand Solitude has some very nice people and is quite beautiful aswell also safe.

Ange's mountain side shack for me. High up fairly close to a town no one ever bothers her there and a great way to work on my archery early on plus if you say you're not there to try to kill her she really warms up to you in a way that's more so than doing chores for other people first and then getting them to sort of like you.

Why would I live anywhere but Markarth? Beautiful city, well protected, away from the war but close enough to other areas, great economy and a temple to Dibella.

Forsworn won't get in.

Solitude is a second choice, but it's nice too.

I'd live in the middle of no where in a cave :D

You'd have to be wary of wandering Dragonborn killing you and stealing your stuff.

did you not know? i am the fucking dragonborn :D

I like Dawnstar, but I couldn't live in a place where it's always cold and snowing. So I'll go with Falkreath, I don't like rain either, but hey, if I wake up and it's raining I'll just shout out from my window to Clear the Skies :)

Also, I'm considered handsome there, that's a huge plus.

Is not living in Skyrim an option?

I mean, the land is nice and all but, I generally prefer to live in places where I wouldn't have to worry about a dragon randomly swooping down and tearing shit up.

But if I had to live somewhere, probably Whiterun. It's a nice enough place, plus it's protected by a badass order of hardened warriors.

Falkreath or somewhere around the hot springs of Eastmarch. Those seem like the areas with most chance of survival.

I teared up a little the first time I went to Markath. It's carved into the side of a Mountain, it's like it was made for me. The only issues would be Forsworn crawling around outside the walls and the corruption of the Silver-Bloods.
Not worried about the deeper ruins, the Falmer seem to keep to themselves unless disturbed and the Dwarven machines tend to die rather quickly when swarmed.

My other choice would be Solitude. Seems sensible for the Legate that put an end to the rebellion.

this one had not heard of the unfortunate turn of events in Elseweyr. News within the Caravans is rarely discussed, and the peoples' distrust keeps us out of their cities. Perhaps this one should join the Thieves Guild. Though it would be odd to merely pick the pockets of targets instead of just outright elimination.

Markarth, Solitude, Whiterun. Pretty easy

Abandoned shack

But....wouldn't you have to rename it?

OT:
I'd follow around thems Khajiit traders. Not that I'm some kind of cat lover, but the Moon Sugar. And the Skooma....Need me some Skooma... the imported stuff... just one last time....

I own houses in every major city and you say I can't sleep in any of them? NONSENSE I WILL SLEEP IN ALL OF THEM.

But no, what are the rules of this scenario? Are we our characters? or are we, the player, moving to skyrim and setting up shop like so much animal crossing?
If the latter, as gorgeous as Morthal is, I'd hate to live there because I would doubtlessly need to live in with the beggars. Those rooms suck. So I'd have to pick Whiterun. It's a major city, with low crime and high security, and is (lorewise) a major trade city. Picking up a job in town, you could probably afford the ten gold for the inn, or if you join the companions you at least have a place to sleep and food provided.

If I were my character, on the other hand, main place of residence would be Morthal. Seeing the sun glittering off the stone in the morning... beautiful. However, even then I'd be running a vast network all over Skyrim, so I'd never stay in one place for the rest of my life. I have obligations to several groups, not to mention the necessity of traveling for commerce reasons. I smith, enchant, trade, and mix to support myself, so I have to travel to keep bringing in gold. I'd also make sure to take the time to ruin Molag Bal's shrine, and replace it with a shrine to Sheogorath, the only Daedra to whom I could ever truly swear allegiance to.

Oh come off it, Talos HIMSELF would be annoyed by that shouting lunatic.

I wanna say Whiterun, but I think I'd get arrested for killing Heimskr (the Talos dude) within a week.

So Solitude, hands down. Nice weather, too.
