THE Game That Defined Your Childhood

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I cant tell you how many hours of my life were poured into that game, I got in more trouble playing it and not doing my homework then any other in my history. Great game, awesome cast (even Navi, once you tune her out), there is nothing better at all.

For me, it would have to be a tie with Halo: Combat Evolved and Age of Empires, with a close, CLOSE second with Morrowind. I know we only are supposed to have one game, but all three were instrumental in my tastes of games today. I enjoy rts games, FPS games that are pretty non-linear, and RPG games that have a world that's its own character.

Donald Duck's Playground. You were Donald. You had to WORK for a living. The money you made paid for playground equipment for his nephews. Big slide! Weeee....... http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/donald-ducks-playground/

There were other ones, like SimCity, Populace, Joust, Pong, Asteroid, Zork, Day of the Tentacle, and 7th Guest later on... But Donald Duck's Playground sticks out in memory.

Those were the days.

ratchet and clank. hell. yes. i love that game so much. never got around to playing any of the newer installments though, although i did beat deadlocked which was vastly inferior to the original in my not particularly humble opinion.

I would say Warcraft II, hence my avatar. I still have vivid memories of the first time I saw the game at a friend's place, it was simply incredible. It also introduced me to the fantasy genre, and from there I went on to play Baldur's Gate (another big game of my childhood/teens) and read Lord of the Rings. And of course it introduced me to Blizzard, which is easily the company with the games I spent the most time in.

It's really hard to say. Maybe Halo?

Kirby Fucking 64 Yeah! I fucking love Kirby 64! greatest game I ever played, first game I ever played, I play through it once every month and it just never loses its luster.

Sonic & Knuckles without a doubt. Not only was it my first game, but it was also the first game for me to go Super Sonic and get to the final level.

Doomsday Zone for the win!

Most of all, Chrono Trigger.

There's just no game that ever mattered to me as much as that.

In all honesty, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the Kings video game, it was among the very, very first video games I specifically owned, I bought it with my own money and played it on a PS2 which I also bought myself just to play the LOTR licenced video games (Some of the ONLY licensed games I think deserve more then a first glance).
Me and my best friend sank hundreds of hours to this game we unlocked all the easter eggs together, we beat every level together. These were our favorite movies, and getting to play the game in co-op mode was some of the best fun we ever had together.

Wow, I have a couple I could name: LOZ: Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Starfox 64, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, and Banjo-Kazooie. Not very concise but my fondest gaming memories from childhood involve these games, especially the first.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. It's even affected my artistic style 8 years after playing it!

Most of all, Chrono Trigger.

Whenever I want to break down and cry, I have Frog's theme on my mp3 player. Frog taught me more about being a hero and a good human being than most comics and literature. I swore to myself I'd have a friend like Robo someday... and I think my love of women in glasses stems from Lucca.

Chrono Trigger is my vote. If we want to get technical, Secret of Mana would also be there, but as amazing as that game is, it was amazing for the story and the game play and the music. I love the characters in Mana, but not as much as I could ever love the Chrono gang.

fable...i didnt even own an xbox

Rayman 2. I miss that game.....

SO AWESOME

Soul Edge. Saw the intro on an arcade machine while my parents were at the pool hall, played it, whined at them to get me a PS1 so I could play it at home. Intro below.

If this game where a person, I would have sex with this game.

Man, that games awesome. It was a favourite multiplayer on the cube. Sadly, I rarely get 3 friends round the house.

I wonder if the xbla version has online multiplayer?

First game I ever played. Crash Bandicoot. I was 2 years old. It took me about a week of having my dad play for me and failing to jump over the first hole in the game. But one day, I worked up the courage and I jumped over that hole. I haven't stopped playing games since.

Being the young whippersnapper I am I will say Tony Hawk Underground 1&2. When I picked them up again recently (because I played the discs to death) I remembered that they were actually very good.

I'm gonna say... Pokemon. The first few games, at least.

I played more Pokemon Blue then nesecary :P I had them all save for Mew, but fuck Mew.

imahobbit4062:
The Power Rangers game for the SNES. I adored the ever loving shit out of that. Finished it multiple times.

I loved that game especially the fights in the megazord at the end and how you could input codes to play as the bad guys monsters (which I got pretty good at) I remember struggling with it at first but later I could blitz the game easily.

My game would be a game collection Super Mario all stars there were a few games I played before this but this is what really hooked me on gaming think I would have been about 10 when I got it on my SNES and I still play the games on it now occasionally, great games.

I would also mention Street Fighter 2 turbo putting together mario and this game I probably played these games more than every other game on my SNES put together.

I don't suppose you've played Exile and Revelations then?

Why yes I have

I have great memories of Legend of Dragoon. One of the first long fantasy games I ever played from start to finish.

Ah, this list defines a lot of my nostalgia.

Counter-Strike. That was all the rage for years.
Also, Age of Empires 2. Would play that all the time with my brother.
Roller coaster tycoon 2 as well.
Then a few lesser defining games like Magic and Mayhem, NoX, Diablo 2, Zoo Tycoon, The Sims and more.

Age of Empires II

Well that's good..... glad we cleared that up...

So, uh, what did you think of that.

Freddy Fish. Don't ask why, but it was the only game I had when I was 10 and younger. Still, it was a funish game.

Probably Perfect Dark. I think that's still the game I poured the most hours into ever. I got every cheat, every mission on perfect agent, every challenge. I hit my gamer prime at 14, and it's been all downhill since :(

I am not sure if it was Pokemon ruby or super smash bros.

Micro Maniacs

I miss the old days

On the PS1, a mixture of Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash, Spyro 1-3 and Tekken 1-3.

Though on the PC, it would have to go to Age of Empires and The Sims.

LoZ: Ocarina of Time

Not only was it the first non-platformer/shooter that I ever played, I also got it at a pivotal moment in my life. As such, Zelda will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Even since Ocarina, every one of the home-console Zeldas has come out at a time when something big or significant was happening in my life. For instance Skyward Sword came out just as I've moved from living at home going nowhere with my career, to living independently and moving up in terms of jobs; each game marks an important time in my life.
