Poll: Could you really give up on Bioware? Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 6 NEXT
Not entirely sure. Ok, I could give up on Bioware in a mechanical sense. I gave up on Ubisoft. Bioware may be harder to bear, but I know it can be done. I dont let my hobbies become addictions or dictate my life. Now the question is, would I want to? At this point, no. However, I say that with the knowledge that with Biowares consistent behavior over the course of the last 6 major releases that they are forcing me into a corner of having to give up on them. They are not only showing no signs of stopping, but making it very clear they have absolutely no intention of stopping. However if they dont scale this nonsense back, they are leaving me with little choice. So really the Ball is in biowares court, with what I would presume to be Dragon Age 3 and if they feel compelled to pull these same shenannigans. After playing every single numbered(IE true) Final Fantasy game (and even some of the spinoffs)I have exhibited I can have damn near infinite patience with a company shoveling bullshit down my throat, but everyone has their limits and Bioware is pushing me personally pretty damned hard to that limit by continuing to try to shove this nonsense down the publics collective throats. TL;DR Yes I could. Yes I would be justified in doing so, But, Ill cling onto hope till the next release, see how that goes, and go from there. If Ive had enough at that point, Yes, I could give up on bioware.
Well I've never played a full BioWare game, so yes. I started ME1 and DA1 and wasn't interested enough to get past the opening sequence. So yeah, I do live without them. I have no problem with BioWare; its just not for me. Its not quite as bad as classic JRPGs, but gameplay and story really are kept on opposite sides of a wrought iron fence made of tigers, and thats not something I particularly enjoy.
I'm not buying from Bioware again - and you can take that to the bank. I don't like this trend, and I have no doubt Bioware will keep following it. So, no more Bioware for me.
Yes and it wouldn't really take much. The only game I really liked by them was Dragon Age and I only finished that out of extreme boredom. They seem more interested in story rather then gameplay.
I already gave up on them after Mass Effect 2, here are my reasons: 1) I enjoyed the first 90% of ME 2, aside from my decisions from the first game not mattering / being dealt with in the cheapest possible way. For example, decisions about Anderson and the council. I could see that the much touted feature of importing a save game was just a marketing gimmick, as far as I'm concerned it fell short of being a real feature. 2) The last 10% of ME 2, terminator reaper and the origin of the collectors, led me to see the game as an exciting but ultimately pointlessly adventure - like a hollywood blockbuster movie. This is not such a bad thing, but from Bioware I used to expect more. 3) Dealing with some DLC for ME 2 was so inconvenient that it turned me off to doing business with Bioware and EA. Compared to the convenience of DLC with steam, EAware's service was unacceptable. 4) The Origin exclusive / required thing happened after I already quit buying from EA, but it was a great affirmation that I made the right choice.
Ugh these type of posts. Look OP... One does not "give up" a video game developer. None are gods. None are some perfect corporations that will fulfill your every needs. Instead one should try judging a game by whether it's good or not and not by what company it's from. I would buy another Bioware game if it proves to be good and fun. I won't go "giving up" on Bioware just because it makes bad games. I would just "give up" playing a game that I personally would not enjoy. Savvy?
I've already given up on them. I'm not supporting Origin, and so Mass Effect 3 was no purchase. The end.
How about we all decide if we're buying their next game once we actually know anything about their next game? A game is a game, if it's good then it doesn't matter what other releases have come before it. If it isn't, it doesn't mean they'll always be terrible from now until the end of time. I didn't like Dragon Age: Origins, doesn't mean I had to stop buying Mass Effect. EDIT:
What he said. | |
The only Bioware game I own is Dragon Age: Origins, and it bored me to tears, so I've never really liked Bioware much anyway.
No, I didn't hate Dragon Age 2 as much as most people, and I still liked Mass Effect 3 despite its ending. It would have to take something really drastic to stop me from buying Bioware games day one.
I have no reason to, honestly. I'm not trying to say people's concerns with them aren't legitimate, but I'm not you. I haven't played a game of theirs that I didn't enjoy. Mass Effect 3 was 99% absolutely fantastic. Aside from the ending, I had only one other issue with it (though it wasn't a small one): Shepard speaks too much on his own. Why the hell did they do that? It's so cringe-inducing when he/she speaks without you selecting the option. Everything else in the game was golden, though. I wouldn't, however, call Dragon Age 2 a good game. I did enjoy it, but it's flaws are way too front and center for even the most ardent fan to ignore. It made some improvements. I loved the ability trees. It offered way more different ways to build rogues and warriors. The same isn't true for mages, but...meh, I hate magic in the Dragon Age universe with a passion anyway. But the flaws ranged from eyebrow-raising to jaw-droppingly incomprehensible. However, I rank Dragon Age 3 as the most intriguing game in the near future. BioWare has never had to come back from this level of criticism before (still to this day, even with the Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco. Many people hated Dragon Age 2 through and through). I am very interested to see how they handle it. So far, it seems (from news reports and from some Twitter posts, especialy Mike Laidlaw's) that the original story idea for Dragon Age 3 has been scrapped. It also seems like they will be taking more time to develop Dragon Age 3. And if I were to list all of Dragon Age 2's problems, I'd think will have all found their birth in the issue of time. The development time for Dragon Age 3 was staggeringly short for an RPG. It was released only about 16 months after Dragon Age: Origins (Dragon Age Origins: November 2009; Dragon Age 2: March 2011) . Not only that, but major DLC was still being released for Origins as late as September 2010 (Witch Hunt). So not only was there short development time, but the team was stretched thin. And it wouldn't surprise me if they were mentally and creatively (probably physically, too) fatigued as well. So all in all, I will be highly interested in seeing how Dragon Age 3 turns out. And no, I'm not done with BioWare.
No. I've enjoyed every Bioware game I've played until now, so why should I.
Nope, because I had fun when playing Bioware games, and that's all that matters to me. Just like any other developer that everyone dislikes. If I enjoy their games, then chances are I'm going to buy the game to play it, because that's why I play video games, to have fun.
Sweet! That explains it. Thanks for sharing.
As long as I can keep playing the games that they have already released. Still need my KoToR and Baldur's Gate.
Yes i can give up on bioware it all really depends how the new ending dlc works out if it gives me some sort of closure ill stay with them but if it just fails at giving me closure im done with them Dragon age 2 was really bad in my view so i allready gave up on that series......
Yes. In fact I already gave up on them months ago, well before ME3 even came out. Well to clarify I didn't really give up on Bioware, I gave up on EA because of their despicable business practices. It's just unfortunate that Bioware is inexorably tied to EA.
I play Bioware games because I like them, especially Mass Effect 3, and even to a much lesser extent Dragon Age 2. I owe no "loyalty" I feel no "duty" to purchase their games, so if ever one day they make something I don't like, I won't buy it.
There are developers I keep track and others I don't, I guess you could call it loyalty but meh. I don't follow Bioware as close as I used to as they stopped making games I liked. I will buy a game from them as soon as they make something I like again but with EA looming over them, I don't think it will happen.
Yes, I was all set to not buy ME3 but then it turned out to be actually good. If it hadn't, I wouldn't have bought it. As it stands I'm not getting CnC Generals 2 or SWTOR any time soon.
Nope. Thought Dragon Age 2 was amazing. And Mass Effect 3. Bioware are the only 'Dev' team I still really have faith in to make such big budget games, I guess haters gona hate.
Yes and no... Even though I mad upset about how they have handled a few things... I am still very much looking forward to Dragon Age 3. I love Dragon Age, even number 2, despite its flaws.
Depends what you mean by "give up". Will I flat out refuse to buy their games? Of course not. Will I still probably end up buying most of their games? Probably, because by and large, they're exceptionally good. Will I turn a more skeptical eye towards what they come out with in the future? Oh yes. They've proven they can screw up on important matters. So they're not perfect - they're still good. Sure, I lament their flaws, but it won't stop me enjoying their stuff. Hell, Obsidian's awesome - they've just always been kinda screwy.
Never been a fan of Bioware, so I've can never give up on it.
I will still give their games a chance, but they have lost me as a preorder buyer. I am going to be waiting for the games to come out for a week or so, and test the waters with forums and the like before I decide if I want to pick it up.
Yes i've given up on them A stupid cutscene expansion and some multiplayer crap. Yes, i'm sure we will all just forget the FUCKING endings for skins. I'm looking forward to EA killing BiowEAr.I hope it happens soon.
Pretty much this. After the "Awesome Button!!11one" was introduced, I stopped caring about Bioware.
The question is, when does Bioware cease to be the Bioware that made Baldur's Gate. I think without a doubt that their recent games such as Mass Effect and hell even Dragon Age are great games, but they are definitely heading towards mediocrity. The Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco just proves that, as does most of Dragon Age 2. Whether or not it's EA's influence I don't know, but it does seem to be a coincidence that the quality is dropping at the same time as EA owning them.
No, because there are so few developers in the world who place such emphasis on characterisation and dialogue the way they do and it would be an awful thing to give up on that. Plus, why would you give up on them, anyway? Out of all the games they've made, the only thing they've ever really done wrong is Dragon Age 2 (which plenty of people still liked) and the last 5 minutes of Mass Effect 3 (which they plan on expanding with free of charge DLC). To me, it just doesn't seem reasonable to abandon a company just because they made one mediocre game, and one game with a bad ending. People didn't give up on Double Fine because Brutal Legend could have been better than it was. People didn't give up on Valve because Half-Life 2 had a crap ending. People still respect Warren Spector after Epic Mickey. Surely Bioware deserve the same courtesy.
Last EA game I bought was DA:O.
The Bioware I love is dead. Most anyone I cared for has left. It's a book it has the title and the cover but the pages have all been ripped out.
Not really. I can however ignore their products. Well...until KOTOR 3 comes out. Which is what I plan to do. Because honestly, I wasn't interested in any Bioware project outside of the ME series, and now that that's done, KOTOR 3 will be the only thing that would actually spike up my interest again.
I don't see why I would. I still like their games, even if there has been a drop in quality the last two or three games. To me they're still worth buying. I might voice my dissatisfaction about the things I don't like, after all, that's part of being a customer (also, as a forum poster, it's kind of in my nature ^^). But the day has yet to come when I feel like a Bioware game isn't worth spending money and time on, regardless of how much of a letdown Mass Effect 3's ending was.
i loved origins last count i have over 600 hours in it.. a quick glance shoed me i didnt like the art style and changes in DA2 so i skipped it and when i heard they were going the route of westwood with being tapped to make rts games i thought fine ME3 will probably be my last bioware game.. once i played it they managed to make my favourite game of 32 years a game i detest in the last 10 minutes.. its reinforced my choice and frankly the whitewash of the pax pannel was the final strike for me. while its been fun over the decades with bioware there are plenty of developers who do make the games i like. bioware does have brand loyalty for me anymore it rings warning bells

I'll stop buying from BioWare when they make a game I don't like. So far that hasn't even been close to happening, so they can happily keep taking my money. Only other developers who can say that are Square Enix, Nintendo, Retro, and Game Freak (although technically those last two are owned by Nintendo).
