Poll: Could you really give up on Bioware?

 Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 6 NEXT

I don't have any "loyalty" towards any developer.

If I see a game I like then I buy it regardless of who it's made by.

However I have had issues with the last 3 games I got from BioWare so I can tell you, with hand on heart, I won't be buying another one from them.

Dragon Age 2 was utter shite.
SW:TOR was utter shite.
ME3 was mediocre at best.

They lost several of the guys and gals when EA bought them out. They have lost more since then and it shows.

The quality of BioWare's games has been getting steadily worse as time goes on.

There is a Xbox 360 bug I and many other have that makes the game impossible to play at all on your gamertag. A few token responses from bioware on the issue with no real hint that it will get fixed. Been silent on it for a while now and no mention in patch notes. There is a fix from a community member but the involves editing the gamertag profile which has the potential for xbox live to take action against profile.

So yes I can easily give up on bioware. In fact unless the bug is fixed soon then I have already given up on them.

They made KOTOR. No. I didn't care much for Mass Effect from the beginning and always thought it was pretty mediocre, so its ending being a bit lackluster wasn't nearly as massive of a lifecrushing emotional blow as it apparently was to the kind of people who spent hundreds of dollars on ME over the last few years.

gave up the exact time DA2 launched ^^
*only winner here*

no but seriously, seeing their recent decline in quality, it's pretty easy.

I havn't played a bioware game since ME1 and I havn't loved a bioware game since Jade Empire. If you told me that I could get a sequel to Jade empire at the cost of erasing every other bioware game from existence I would do it before you finished the sentence.

I've been playing the first Baldurs gate since I was 8 years old, hundreds of playthroughs later I'm not sick of it or Bioware because they have never sold me a crappy product.

Also, if you didn't like the, uh, collectible card game in Witcher 1, rest assured Witcher 2 handles sex in a much more mature way.

I summon my Triss Merigold, face-down!

OT: I'm not going to completely abandon the company, I'm not pious enough in fanboy rage to do such a thing. I will however, no longer be preordering anything by them and I will be awaiting for reviews before I purchase anything. I have lost a great deal of trust in them and I feel being cautious is a perfect response to have.

I forget that Jade Empire was a Bioware game. I absolutely love the game, and found it as one of the absolute best you can find on the original Xbox. The combat was a tad wonky to get used to, but when you did it was a thing of glory.

That said, I've never been much a fan for Bioware specifically. Some games are good, others are awful. Most fall between there in the average zone of "meh". So giving them up isn't an issue for me. However, I can say that considering their rather... lack of decent respect for their fans, I'm probably not going to buy their products in the future.

Hell, couple their condescending means of communicating with players with the fact that their games have taken a slightly less than dramatic list to the left straight into the valley "meh", there's really no reason to ever give them a dime.

Just don't use "professional" reviews. I've found them to be rather far off base much of the time.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I could give two shits less who makes the game, as long as I enjoy the game and as long as it's fun to play and well-made. I don't care that team 4star (probably mistaken on the name) came from 4chan - Katawa Shoujo is one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a while. I don't care that Bethesda games typically have little bugs that make them quirky - that's the best part in some cases. On the contrary, even though Bioware made it, I cannot bring myself to care about Dragon Age 2 or Mass Effect 3, even though I enjoyed Bauldar's Gate and Mass Effect 2 greatly.

skywolfblue:
I play Bioware games because I like them, especially Mass Effect 3, and even to a much lesser extent Dragon Age 2.

I owe no "loyalty" I feel no "duty" to purchase their games, so if ever one day they make something I don't like, I won't buy it.

Didn't really know how to put my position on the matter into the right words. But here you come and do it for me, allowing me to be lazy and just quote you and say "This".

Thank you sir.

I'll think of your sacrifice while procrastinating.

Maybe.

If it's not too much work.

Dear lord, no. Not giving a glimpse at anything written by people to sell the game. Just honest players.
"I dont trust anyone who makes more than I do."

The only bioware game Ive bought and didn't like was DA origins. I enjoyed DA2 and while I didn't like the ending to ME it doesn't ruin the rest of the game for me.

I will agree that they are slipping but they are slipping from making godly superjizztacular games to just good games.

When they stop making games that I find fun I'll stop buying.
As it is I had fun with both DA2 and ME3 despite their flaws.

Already given up on Bioware.
Dragon Age 1 was their last attempt at making a proper RPG and the result was only so-so. The ambition was there but the encounter design and loot progression was poorly placed. The game needed extra work. Figures DA was started before EA took over.
Now they make action games with semi-interactive stories and cutscenes, but they have a very long way to go before their action bits can compete with real action games, or good ARPGs like Dark Souls.

I very easily could. I am not bound to any developer, even if I loved all their games. Starcraft 2 was the last Blizzard game I plan on buying and I've owned every one of their games before that.
Of course, I won't forsake a developer forever just because they suck now, if they fly right later, I don't mind going back.

I've given up on their writing. But not on them making fun games. So not really no.

I don't really ahve any brand loyalty to them. Time was I really liked the old CRPGs from studios like SSI, Origin, Looking Glass Studios, etc, but one by one they began to fall and Bioware took their place as the only game in town. That Bioware fell some time ago though and became something new. Since then there hasn't really been a replacement for it unless you count Bethesda. I'd consider Dragon Age: Origins to be their last true game, but even this was showing heavy signs of corruption. It kind of reminds me of what happend to SquareSoft in way. Dragon Age then is to Bioware what FF9 is to SquareSoft.

Could I? Easily. I plan on grabbing ME3 at some point in the not-too-distant future (before 2012 ends) but after that I don't know what they would be able to make that would make me want it. Didn't Bioware say they were shifting their focus away from RPGs anyway? I loved the Bioware RPGs that I played but the games they've been bringing out recently have been less and, less focused upon the RPG elements. Like I've said before, Dragon Age 2 (to me) played more like a beat-em-up than the RPG they were claiming it was.

Ultimately I can live without Bioware. As for EA, I still think they're redeemable but the thing is, the odds of them bringing back Mutant League Sports is slim to none.

already did havent bought a bioware game since bioshock 1

If the ending DLC doesn't live up to my expectations, yes, very easily.

Yep I already decided that I would be done once I finished Mass effect 3 they are just part of EA now their games no longer appeal to me I'm not the target audience and they obviously don't want to make RPG's anymore so I guess this is goodbye bioware so long you're games used to be the stuff of ledgend now the EA money machine has taken you I'm afraid It just won't work.

Already have.

The last game I bought from them was Dragon Age: Origins. I Tried Mass Effect 2 and didn't really like it, and every thing I heard about DA2 told me I wasn't going to like that either.

Add in the massive amounts of Bull the company has been pulling with their business practices and the Mass Effect 3 fiasco, and I have no interest in their games at this point.

It's a shame, really, they used to be my favorite Dev.

I could easily live without buying another game made by BioWare because the Mass Effect trilogy is all I have ever played that has their name on it. I don't care what company makes a game (most of the time) - I care more about wether I like it or not.

Case in point: My new XBox 360 came with Fifa 12: Special Edition even though it wasn't advertised as such. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining that I got a free game that would have cost me a lotta sovs if I bought it from the shops. However it was soon traded-in for two slightly older games at my local branch of CeX.

If one were to look at the surface evidence, you could be forgiven that I was trying to make a point about how much I hate EA. I love football (as in the game, not so much the people who play and / or watch it sometimes) and I've had fun with Fifa games in the past. But the truth is that I played the game, used the feature that allowed me to insert myself into my favourite football team and practiced my moves in readiness for the actual matches.

Sadly, for whatever reason, I just couldn't get into the game in the same way that I got into games like Mass Effect so I traded it for games that, so far, I am enjoying very much.

But, that's just me.

Well DA2 sucked, ME3 had issues and the way they are ruining SWTOR is the equivalent of someone punching the Mona Lisa's face out in front of Da Vinci's face so yes.
Its clear they have been fully assimilated to EA now, so they have become a rent it 1st Dev.

Why not? If they decided to give up the fanbase that made them famous in order to pursue Call of Duty fanbase and to cater to casual shooter fans I want nothing to do with them. CD Project is the new Bioware. Let's see how long they'll last.

But let's see what they're gonna do with ME3. If they fix it I'll be willing to give them another chance.

No, but my confidence in them has been shaken.

My views on any video game company are this.

I dont give a shit how many bad games they make, if they happen to make a good one I will buy it.

Strain42:
Seeing as how I never really followed the developers much to begin with, I can say Yes, I can.

I very rarely believe in developer loyalty (with a few notable exceptions who have earned it over the years)

When/If Bioware releases a game that actually looks like something I would like to play, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

But right now that just hasn't happened yet.

Agreed on that one. I tend to have trouble giving up breathing, but not buying bad games from a developer that made a few good ones in the past?

Let's just say my (admittedly already atrocious) sleeping habits will not be suffering any further damage.

I'll still buy their games, great stories and solid gameplay is what its all about and no amount of internet "rage" is going to stop me from buying more games.

Well, I kind of did already. Bioware has not received a single penny from me since DA2.

Edit: Why do I have to describe brands I have never heard of? I mean, if you want to advertise something to me, at least make it something that isn't a company exclusive to USA.

I've got CDProjekt now, I don't need Bioware any more.

Suppose if DA3 is good (but ONLY if it's good) I'll pick up the Ultimate Edition, but aside from that, I won't be purchasing any more Bioware products.

I agree with this - the old captchas were better because we got to help translate and store old documents in computers - these new ones are making me look up companies I will never use cos I don't live in America.

Well I like the Mass Effect series but I don't much care for their other works. Jade Empire was okay but Dragon Age is just annoying to play and Kingdom of Amalur doesn't interest me either.

Yeah, I could give up Bioware quite easily (I may get Sonic Chronicles at some point)

Already have.

Mass Effect 2 was my last BioWare game. They may get their act together eventually, but that won't change the fact that I don't care about their stuff anymore. BioWare's writing is mediocre at best (and that's me being nice). Also, I don't feel like stepping into the (time)trap that is Origin.

So yeah, fuck em. Plenty of other (and more interesting) games out there.

Internet Person: Hey Bhaal! Could you live without BioWare?

Me: *Looks at username* Probably not...

I've yet to play a BioWare game I didn't love! Now excuse me, I have a Sith Juggernaut to level!
