What is so great about The Last Guardian?

I have seen so much hype for the last guardian it's unbelievable, gamers all around the world can't wait for it, and are left with only a beautiful trailer for all to see.

The problem is? i really don't see the big deal.

i just don't understand it, the comment section on the youtube trailer are all something along the lines of "OMG A BOY AND A GRIFFEN IT'S SOO AMAZING I AM CRYING SO MUCHH RITE NAO"

Really? i posted comment saying i don't really feel for it and someone replied saying "you're probably a 10 year old cod fanboy you're not a real gamer blah blah blah.

So what do you guys think? What is the big idea? if you like ICO and last guardian then thats fine but i just don't get it.

It's because it's being made by Team Ico, and their games are highly regarded.

The big deal is that ICO was awesome, and so was Shadow of the Colossus, and people are hyped that the studio is releasing another game. Don't see anything wrong with it to be honest, it's the same as anyone being hyped for Skyrim before it came out, or for a new Uncharted game, or anything else.

Pretty sure that's exactly it. I haven't seen any coverage of this game beyond the troubles it's been going through but everyone seems to be boning it solely for this reason.

I must crawl out from under this rock I seem to live in.....

I have not heard about this or the hype surrounding it.

Nothing because it has not been released yet. But then again what is so great about any game? its just as good as you make it out to be.

A reasonable amount of people myself included enjoyed Ico and Shadow of the Colossus so obviously expectations are high for the next game.

That saying I do not think this game has been getting much hype really TBH most people I speak to havent even heard of it.

I loved the trailer when it came out but now I can't watch it without thinking of Kinectimals :)

Because Team Ico made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two of my favourite games of all time.

And because it's a baby griffin.

A baby griffin.

I see the hype, and where it all comes from.

I do not see the extreme length it's taking to get the game released.

They have been talking about this game for years now. It's half-way depressing. The longer people are left to think and hope about a game, the more their imagination will glorify it beyond what it's going to actually be. Then, even if the game is brilliant, it will suck. That is not a good way to present a game. I mean, look at Spore.

Yeah, but Spore failed because it was shit :D

I'd agree with you, but Team Ico has always taken their time.

I've waited this long, I don't mind waiting longer :D

I'm getting the impression it stuck in development hell. So those that are hyped are lightly to be disappointed (myself included).

Hasn't the lead designer left the project or something?

It's been in development hell, because of the lead designer leaving the company as a full time employee, amongst many other things such as the design decisions for the game. Team Ico even outsourced it to Santa Monica, and other various sony branches to help finish it. However, as of now, the game has still got a long way to go until it's finished.

It's kinda like what happened to Shadow of the Colossus, when it was announced as a sequel to Ico, called Nico back in 2002. Design decisions delayed the game for years, until it was created as it's own stand alone game. Also, there was a lot of content and ideas from Shadow of the Colossus that were cut, due to these design decisions, including around a dozen colossus designs, that even had working textured models, as shown in various screenshots of the prototype.

This was what i wanted to post . I mean really where did the Op find these people?

I'd like to meet the people you know that have been talking about this game because I have barely heard anything. Especially since the...what was it, creative director left?

This was something that I think was on the minds of many my friend. This point you bring up is both sexy and interesting. I don't think we should stop there. May I bring some to the table as well? "Okay so why do people like ice cream so much." "There is a alot of men that like sticking their penis into a girls hairy clam, I don't get it." There is alot of people that are against setting animals on fire, I do it and don't feel guilty." "Everyone likes breathing air so they can stay alive, I don't see the hype." Remember, just because you don't get it, doesn't mean you don't have the tools to figure it out.

As it has already been answered...it's because of Team ICO. While I haven't played Ico, Shadow Of The Colossus was amazing.

I heard about it but never any details, I would play Ico and Shadows of the colossus if I had a PS3 or the dev ported it to 360.

To see what fans are looking forward to, think of Studio Ghibli. They always release amazing, atmospheric, emotional movies that fans can't get enough of. With that reputation, all that has to happen is for someone to leak that Ghibli is working on a new film coming out, say, March 2013. Fans around the world would instantly orgasm, and from aa certain perspective rightly so; they know it will be good, even if they haven't seen any footage yet, because they've never been left with less than complete awe before.

They're not like Valve, that promised fans a tight release schedule facilitated by episodic content; you know every minute they spend on this is a minute spent polishing the diamond, if this anything like SOTC.

Well, considering that Ico and SotC are without contest my favourite games of all time I think looking forward to Last Guardian is rather justified.
