Poll: Resident Evil: The Lackening

Ok ... so, if you're anything like me (and hopefully there ain't too many of you ... there's only so many zombie survival plans that can be followed by so many people) you are a fan of zombies.

And don't get me wrong, as much as anyone else I love to shoot said zombies.

*sigh*

I've been playing RE since it began (I call the games 'Biohazard' .. some git here called me 'pretentious' - ha! like that's a real word - so I figured I'd let you all hear the game referred to as 'RE' instead). And I'm goddamn sick of it.

You heard me.

As much as I'm a fan of Leon and his Bond-ish BS (my son's name is actually Leon, but that's another story...) ... and as much as I like Chris' ridiculous manliness (srsly .. some of my best friends are 'called Chris' if you know what I mean) ... the game has horribly horribly turned from being fan-freaking-tastic to utter crap. And it culminated in that crap I bought the other day ... something about 'Raccoon City ... blah blah .. thing'. I think.

Good God ... what putrescent undead whore did that pffffft out of ?!

So anyway ... worst Biohazard/Resident Evil game, and why?

(or rather, defend that crap since Leon and Chris started running the show)

Or, on a more fanboy/girl point, at what point did it just start becoming super ridiculous? Was it Wesker being a Demigod, or Chris' freakin' arms (!) ?

CAPCHA: birthday girl .... well, I do like cake .... :)

EDIT: as a side note; I've not been more disappointed in a game I've purchased since this Raccoon City crap. I was thankful we were going back to Raccoon City! I had high hopes for actually fearing for my safety. But no. My success (or lack thereof) seems more tied to the ping of some faceless prick on the Internet.

EDIT EDIT: Hey ... my poll comments were cut ... I said 'Leon's Spanish Vacation IV' and 'Chris' African Safari V' for the poll ...

You expected to be scared when you're part of a 4 man team of experts who have been trained to deal with a situation just like Raccoon City? Did you bother reading up on the game at all before you mindlessly purchased it?

I've only played RE 2, 4 and 5.

- 2 was terrible. Horrid controls and camera, not scary.

- 4 was bad. Clumsy controls and oh God that dialogue. At least it was kind of fun though. I'd say "not scary" as well, but I don't think it was trying to be.

- 5 was like 4 but shorter and with prettier graphics.

Yeah, poll slots and spoiler boxes, for some reason, don't like apostrophes. :P

Anyhow, I've only played 1 and 5...never really been a big RE fan (or a Zombie fan...I mean I like'em as much as the next guy but I don't jizz in my pants every time I hear the words "zombie movie marathon") and really I've got to laugh at you for having such faith in that crappy franchise.

So, without further ado, *clears throat* Ha ha ha, ha ha, ha HA ha ha.

RE 1 was a fun little zombie game, but with each game it just got stupider and stupider. And yes, I think the ultimate display of this was when Wesker turned into Evil Neo.

But for that matter, have to laugh even HARDER at you for actually buying a game after RE 5. For god sakes, they blew up the series' primary villain while he was submerged in hot lave. That's the end of the frickin' story. There's no need for another Raccoon City game. There's no need for RE 6 (which, if you buy, I'll be forced to laugh at you again. :P) For god sakes Capcom, if you REALLY want to beat a dead horse, start making some more Mega Man games. Those are at least half-way enjoyable......as long as they go back to the minimum story format as seen in MMX - MMX 4 and every standard MM game out there.

So, I believe I owe you one more - even harder - laugh.

BWA HA HA! HAHAHA HA HA HA HA HAAA!

:P

I never played Resi 1; too crappy.

Resi 2 and 3 are nostalgia classics, but haven't aged for shit.

I can't remember too much from Code: Veronica X, except that it sucked.

Resi 0 could've been good if it wasn't for the clumsy duo control gameplay mechanic.

Resi 4 is one of the best games ever and revitalized a series that was at that point dead in the water.

With Resi 5 the series went back to being shit again thanks to forcing in co-op.

I would say that every RE that featured Albert Wesker was shittier for it.

I enjoyed all of the main games. Haven't played Operation: Raccoon City since its PC release is in May, but I am very excited for RE6

I hated Resident evil 4. Sorry, I liked the puzzles and searching for keys and actually have to LOOK for them instead of -map- OH THERE IT IS "x" marks the spot.

Resident Evil 0/1/2/3/Code Veronica/Outbreak were the great ones.

While I dearly love the older RE games, I tend to prefer the RE4 method of streamlining the fetch-quests. Not a huge fan of constant back-tracking. Breaks flow for me

RE: ORC had a few fun moments, but the whole "hide behind the wall, dodge, and empty every magazine you can into it's face" is not infinitely enjoyable.

So you haven't play REmake, you should seriously fix that.

Best Resident Evil game ever made, and one of the best remakes there has ever been.

It's also the only Resident Evil game I can call scary with a straight face.

I have a strange relationship with RE in that I like them (mostly) but I cant play them the controls absolutely kill it for me but I do enjoy watching others play them. I did play 4 but I found it a chore to play even though I felt it was a good game and I actually finished 5 but that was a bit rubbish TBH, playable but rubbish.

The only two games I have played in RE that I couldnt stand to even watch were code veronica and the first survivor one (didnt see the others) they were just terrible in a non good way.

I also havent seen the squad based raccoon city one which I assume OP is talking about but I have seen it has been universally slated so maybe that is the worst one but it was outsourced I believe.

4 is still one the best paced action games ever and has some of the most hilarious dialogue in anything.

Everything else is bad. My personal least favorite is code veronica.

Edit: Actually REmake is alright.

Would that I could, but Gamecube games are hard to come by these days.

And if the controls were similar to those of Resident Evil 0, than that would seriously spoil the game for me. The way your character pivoted and turned around in Resi 0 was ghastly slow.

The controls are quite similar, but you shouldn't let that stop you from playing it.

It's so great, that the controls are worth preserving with, as it's far superior to RE0, and perhaps it's even better than RE4 in most cases.

Also, the game still looks frikken gorgeous, even the character models.

Watch out for those Crimson Head's though...they will really shit you up. Especially when you hear one running up the stairs in the dark corridors.

Remember to Burn the Bodies!

That is All...

I didn't really get into Resident Evil until REmake came out on the GameCube. A family member got it for me as a gift. I freaking loved it, despite its clunky controls.

Ended up buying the rest of the games in the main series as they were released on the GameCube (0, REmake, 2, 3, CV, 4), then picked up RE5 for the PC during a Steam sale.

Of the ones that I personally own, I think RE:0 or RE:CV would be my least favorite. RE:0 was very pretty and all... but I hated the teammate mechanics, the story seemed rather throw-away, and it made some of the Rebecca moments in REmake seem rather awkward (like her commenting on how strange it was that all the medical supplies in the mansion have the Umbrella Corporation logo). In the end, I've only played through RE:0 once for the experience, and probably won't play through it again. The main reason I'd even bother mentioning RE:CV after a game that I openly admit I played once and likely won't play again is because of Steve-Freakin'-Burnside. I fucking hate that guy. 'Nuff said.

Anyway... though I've never owned them, I did get the chance to play each of the other Resident Evil spin-offs through friends (except RE:ORC). As a whole they seemed pretty terrible. For the purposes of this poll, I ended up voting for the Gun Survivor series as being the worst segment of the franchise. Those games were freaking terrible with almost no redeeming qualities to me. At least with RE:0 and RE:CV I can say that I don't regret my purchases. If I'd bought the Gun Survivor games, I'd not only regret my purchases... I'd be ashamed of them.

Gun survivor 4, or Resident Evil: Dead Aim as it's called, is one of the biggest piles of crap I have ever played.

I played it for five minutes, and that was enough for me.

Outbreak is pretty cool though, dumb A.I, and long loading times aside. It Would really benefit from a online HD remaster though, get on it Capcom!

Oh man... how could I forget! There was also a Resident Evil game for the Gameboy Color!

Resident Evil: Gaiden!

Now that game was a very special kind of terrible, even if it did see a Pre-RE5 DLC return of Mr. Badass himself, Barry Burton.

I bought RE: Revelations and I think it's a cracking game.

Yeah, Gaiden was terribad, and I have a played it...on more convenient means.

...what do you expect me to pay to play that POS?

I just wish they stuck to their guns, and released the Gameboy Colour port of Resident Evil instead though. It was quite impressive actually, if a little bit stripped down from it's console brothers.

It even had the whole trademark Resident Evil sound on the menu, albeit very digitalised, and laughably bad.

You can actually find the Prototype Rom on the net if you dig around a bit if you want to play it yourself.

I was a huge fan of the original survivor horror Resident Evils growing up. 4 was alright but I really wish they decided to return the series to it's roots instead of making it an action series. But I supposed Silent Hill is the last of the survivor horror genre as Amy failed miserably.

It's not worth it to play Resi 1 anymore, unless its the Remake. The original is terribad in every sense of the word.

Resi 2 and 3 are tied for second in my mind, with 3 only slightly edging out 2 for having superior weapon, location, and enemy variety. 2 has the best story, though.

Code Veronica is a pile of bull honky. Seriously, its just terrible.

Resident Evil 4 was one of the best games released on the PS2, and I still consider it to be one of the best action games ever made. Very little of its success has to do with it being a Resident Evil game. They could have called it "Leonardo DiCaprio's adventures in NotSpain" and it would still be brilliant.

Resident Evil 5 is pretty good, but it made a critical mistake by getting to invested in it's own stupid lore, rather than following RE4's example. Also, the AI partner thing is kind of a pain, though having a co-op player makes the game IMMENSELY more fun. I highly recommend it to anyone who though RE5 was lacking.

6 looks like it's heading in the same direction as 5, story-wise, which is a bit of a shame, but everything else I've seen about it looks pretty sweet.

Oh, and every single RE side game ever made is terrible, no exceptions. This includes Resident Evil 0. O:RC is EASILY the best of the bunch, if that helps to paint a picture. Dead Aim is my personal favorite for it's sheer WTF quotient.

^^ a million times this. They never marketed off as "HARDCORE SURVIVAL HORROR". From the first reveal trailer we saw exactly the tone they were going for. To be honest, I found RE5 more scary than 4 (im replaying 4 right now). RE4 was good until you get to the castle, then its a B-movie cheese fest. You fight a goddam napolean midget in a puzzle castle. None of that is scary. In Re5 all the towns were creepy as hell. L4D2 had daytime levels as well, and that didn't change the tone of the game at all from the first one. I think people are expecting too much from the series. Since the first Resident Evil game its been a cheesy b-movie horror.

Do I even need to link the live action opening cutscene from RE1?

Don Savik:

You probably should, just on the off-chance there's a single person who hasn't seen it yet. It's definitely something that shouldn't be missed.
