Wait A Second.... They Actually Care? Pages 1 2 NEXT
Wow...that's great. *tips hat* Thankfully I'll be purchasing a HD TV soon so I won't have to put up with this tiny, blurry text anymore. Also hopefully The Witcher 2 is released for PS3.
Yeah, those guys get a lot of things right. Also, Letho is really Geralt's father.
CD Projekt are one of the very few companies nowadays that do care, that's why they made a superb Xbox 360 port of the Witcher 2, that does the PC version justice. Incredible graphics for six year old hardware, I must say. It's quite amazing really how they pulled it off, while still making it look fantastic. Take note, the guy's who were in charge of that extremely shitty 360 Risen port, or that buggy ass PS3 Orange Box port...yeah I'm looking at you, you bunch of porting clowns!
Vanquish also had this feature. It should be standard. I use the big text even though I have an HDTV.
It's always the little things like this that make me want to support a video game. Now awaiting a PS3 port, so I can support.
Really loving Witcher 2, with some key exceptions. "OOOOODRRRRIIIIINNNN!" Shut. The Fuck. Up. SHUT UP.
But Letho isn- Ahhhh waaaaaait... I see, I see, my bad
| |
I can't be the only guy who was put off by exactly how meaty Letho is. If he wasn't a mutant I'd have a damn hard time suspending disbelief lol
Who's that? I don't remember anything like that.
Or you played without sound. Also note I'm early in chapter 2, so no spoilers for me either, please.
Ah, that would explain it. Yeah, he was my favourite character in the game. ... Also, umm... Scoia'tael is made of people.
Haven't got that far into the game itself yet, but the packacge is indeed an amazing one. A real manual, a hint/guide book, a soundtrack (on an actual CD, not just a digital copy), extra material on the game discs for those who didn't play part 1 and, if you pre-ordered, a pretty cool wicther amulet keychain. And that's the basic version of the game that retails for the same price as any other new releases, not the collector's edition. Even if the game itself wasn't good, I'd almost recommend buying the game purely to show your appreciation for the developer and publisher.
That actually sounds pretty cool. Such a small thing and yet shows so much understanding and care. Well, at least more than not having the option. And the font size would really come in handy - towards the end of the game, you find the Necronomicon and it is normally a bit hard to read. You then use it to ask Vesemir some questions but first the game asks you for a few random passages from the book, so not reading it would really be annoying. And if you answer incorrectly, you'll end up summoning a Garkain.
Though I don't really fancy the game myself, the HD font sizing thing needs to become more prevalent. Badly.
It's kinda crazy that in this day and age still almost no video games offer the option to resize the font. Even disregarding the issue with SDTVs (I still have nightmares about playing PS3 games before I got myself a HDTV) sometimes I can hardly read stuff even on a HDTV, like in RDR, for instance. It can't be that hard to include a few different font sizes - pretty much every thing with text in it does it nowadays.
I wish Skyrim had had that option. Oh and the option to not freeze every time I play too. That would be nice...
Just a shame that my computer fan is really shitty, so my computer overheats way too quickly. Have to play it on 848 * 480, and believe it or not, the game looks kinda...bad then. It's really a shame.
Once you find him, and take them to the bar, they shut up. Even Geralt gets sick of their whining.
How about this? Perfect Dark had a language filter. As soon as I saw that, I immediately switched it on (turning vulgar language off) and haven't looked back since. Now, where has this feature been hiding since 2000?
CDprojekt is one of my favorite companies because . . . they actually DO care, it's crazy.
Shit a fucking doodle, that's actually pretty good. That has annoyed me on a fair few games. Even if you do have a HDTV, they still expect you to sit with your face planted to the screen if it's not a biggie. I hope this is an option we see more of.
Of course the best fucking game company on the planet doesn't make stuff for systems I have. Between this, the "no fucks given, no DRM implemented" position on piracy, and the free updates to PC versions of Witcher 2, I'm so depressed that I can not use any of their products. This is a company I want to support, damnit.
Lordy! I still remember having to squint at the emails in deus ex HR -.-
CDProjekt have their highs and lows like any other company but overall I agree, they're definitely one of the best developer out there. Whether it's because they genuinely care or savvy marketing I don't know, but whichever it is they're beyond doubt one of the most pro-consumer around. A depressingly rare find in the gaming industry! Replaying Witcher 2 right now and while I still think the beginning is a bit rough with those stupid dragon scenario and the jump-cut editing between story snips and scenario, overall it's definitely one of the best rpg released in ages. I especially love that despite having played the game once before when it was released, thanks to a few decisions I made differently this time it feels like an almost entirely different experience. I have no bloody clue how it's going to end despite having played it before, that's damned impressive!
Did any of you sail to paradise on whores arses?
One thing I loved about Letho, in a great display of self-awareness he admits at some point that he knows his brutish appearance affects how regular people will regard him. He even exploits looking like a big dumb oaf as a trick. So in other words, Letho is someone else put off by exactly how meaty Letho is :P
Dead Rising 1 would have needed that. Never complaeted it since it had extremly tiny fonts.
They...they did that? THANK THE EMPRAH! I have to game with an SD T.V. and the worst part of that is the text. I don't mind the graphics or the screen size, but the fact that I can't even read the fething text annoys the fuck out of me. Vanquish had an option for it but all my other 360 games I actually bought and played didn't. Hats off to you CDProjekt. You get my vote next MM.
Most developers do care, it's just a few things get in the way: - Budgets Budgets are probably the biggest issue. Sure it may not cost much nor be hard to add into the game, but every minute wasted is profit being lost in the eyes of the gaming industry (not all, but most see it as such). Lack of time means they're rushed to publish a game according to the date it's due. Also, space can also mean if they added it, bugs/glitches could come up from the features without them knowing at first. However, this is how I imagine some companies: Artist: "Sir, we should add a HD Font option for those who have HD TVs to-"
Although it sounds interesting I don't care too much for the Witcher series but I actully really want to buy it just to support these guys. It's the kinda game that I would probably like and these guy's who made it are pretty awesome so im really tempted to buy the 360 port at some point.
HD font is what we call it now, not font size? Well alrighty then... But yeah CDProject guys know and do their shit well, let's just hope others follow.
Yeah, this. I'd forgotten how nice it is to have an actual manual, not just a ridiculous little four-page pamphlet that just tells you to stick the disc into the drive to install it and play. (Mass Effect 3, I'm looking at you.) I still miss the days of big ring-bound manuals like the original Fallout had, but it was nice to see a developer making the effort.
A company that cares!?!??! IMPOSSIBRU!
ME3 was bad but I have to call out Arkham City as the worst possible included material ever. You get a card telling you that the manual is on the disc in order to save trees and all that good stuff. Fine, I'll take that and it makes sense to me. And then they also include a 10 page or so instruction manual sized booklet of advertising for various Batman/Akrham City related merchandise.

So I have heard some great things about CDProjekt, but I wanted to reserve my judgment until after I beat The Witcher 2. Strangely, my opinion of them started forming at the title screen.
"Do you want to use HD font size?"
What. The. Fuck.
More specifically, where the fuck has this option been hiding since 2007? Is it possible that some developers understand not everyone owns HD televisions and that trying to read HD-sized font on an old tube is damn-near impossible? Wow. Hats off to you CDProjekt. Seriously.
Just wow.
For the record I own an HD tv, but I have many horror stories about about trying to play new games on old tubes. Not fun.
Also, no spoilers please. Just finished Act 1.
