It's an incredible game, it's only the ending that gets much hate (apart from the whole DLC thing, anyway). In fact the only reason there has been so much of an uproar about the ending is because the rest was so great.
I definitely recommend you buy it, but when you get lifted up on a glowing white platform just switch the game off. I went in expecting the worst and still managed to be greatly disappointed. It's bad in such a specifically awful way that it devalues the rest of the game, so you're better off not experiencing it at all.
Well.... Yeah. At least I think so. Maybe it's because the Escapist won't shut the fuck up about it, I just hate anything ME related. I played the first two games, and every character is either a Mary Sue or a Mary Sue with a dick. Also, Liara doesn't have eyebrows. She draws them.
THE GAME IS ON SALE, it has nothing to do with the quality. Its just Amazon's way to clear out some stock. It happens with almost every mayor game after a few weeks (I even have Amazon's deals as a bookmark to check it daily)...
In the topic of quality, no. The game is not bad. Not by a long shot. Its a fitting end to a great saga... Its well worth the 60 dollars tag, let alone a 30 dollars one. Whether you wish to listen to my opinion or the opinion of the hordes of crying babies around is up to you, but it needs to be said.
Capitano Segnaposto: Exactly! And with the amazing Indoctrination theory (Which I still believe, regardless. Hell, it makes more sense than anything else!) I am eagerly playing through all the games again with that theory in mind.
:P I do agree that the Indoctrination Theory does wrap up a lot of holes left open by the Literal Interpretation, however there's still too many holes in the IT for me to accept it as valid. Though I do think the parallels between Saren and The Illusive Man are too solid to ignore, the only real difference between them is that Saren wanted to appease the Reapers while TIM wanted to control them. However, both became absolutely obsessed with Indoctrination towards the end of their lives, both thought their actions were for the greater good, and both can be talked into blowing their own heads off. :P
Quick question, what are the plot-holes to the indoctrination theory anyhow? I keep hearing about them but no one goes into specifics >.<

BECAUSE THAT SITUATION IS TOTALLY COMPARABLE TO A SUB PAR ENDING OF A VIDEO GAME, RIGHT GAIS?!?
Give me a break. It's no where near that bad, and the rest of the game is so damn awesome that telling someone NOT to try it is doing that person a disservice.
Oh it's completely comparable. In either situation, without a proper ending, you might as well not have bothered. The ending is the most crucial part to a story/blowjob, if it isn't satisfying, or at the very least, functional, then it leaves you feeling frustrated and quite pissed that you wasted time on something with a shitty payoff.
Well what about BioShock? That game had a horrible ending, yet the lead up to the ending was still amazing. Many people consider the game to be absolutely great (including those who bitched about the ending to ME3), yet the same can't be said about ME3? That is a load of bullshit. You know it. I know it, everyone knows it.
If 99% of an item is amazing (be it book, CD, Candy, Game, Movie, whathaveyou) and the last 1% sucked, then does it mean it should be banished, insulted, and shamed? NO. It does not.
I can't say I care if many people hold that opinion in regards to Bioshock. I certainly don't. In any case, i'm sorry it bothers you that I hold a dissenting opinion. Might I recommend you take a nice long shower?
dimensional: Its been cheap for quite a while I also see that Street Fighter X tekken is now over 50% off in some stores as well basically I dont think people liked what they did so now they are dropping the price to get people to try and buy it.
Is it that people didn't like it or are (like me) waiting for Super SF vs Tekken?... Then ultimate SSF vs Tekken... Then Ultimate Premium SSF vs Tekken.
Sorry I worded that badly I was just mentioning sf x tekken whereas when I was saying people saw stuff they didnt like I was referring to ME3 and specifically its ending.
As for whether people are waiting for the updated version of sf x tekken or not im not sure I generally think its just a complete sense of apathy for the product TBH people dont think they are getting a good deal and online is apparently terrible.
I am actually doubtful there will be an updated version I mean it wouldnt surprise me if their was but I dont think there is enough support behind the product to justify it. They should just hurry up and release the new darkstalkers game instead.
Good point but I never put it past Capcom to milk a dead horse.
Tar Palantir: It was reported on the official forum, many people returned their copy to Amazon because of the ending.....that's voting with your wallet!
About the game...
1) Don't play it unless you've played the first 2 games.
2) IMO, the game was 90% perfect...until the horror...the horror...
3) I really do not know weather to recomment it or not. As I said, it's a really good game, it has the best combat system and emotional impact of the three, but the ending can potentially ruin everything you did before it, including the other two games, not to mention the risk of depression (not even joking).
In hindsight, the really good moments of the journey can potentially overshadow the ending...I just pretend it never happened xD
I'm already doing that with Red Dead Redemption, although I didn't get depressed, just about as angry as I'd ever been at a villain in a game.
GTAIV was depressing though.
What is it with Rockstar these days?
Maybe when the ending DLC comes out, and if it really does turn out to be free, then I'll buy the game. Used.
Don't listen to the heretics that say that the ending is the only bad thing. All of it is terrible! It's like Call of Duty, but with different skyboxes. It's horrible. Mass Effect 1 is the only one worth playing, and ME2 has good loyalty missions. ME3 is just crap.
If you were having a wonderful, WONDERFUL blowjob from a prostitute and right before you finished, she bit down onto you and wouldn't let go for a full minute, would you still be willing to recommend her to your friends?

I completely agree, and I am amazed that it went down in price so quickly, which is a real shame.
AnarchistFish: Mass Effect 3 is an amazing game, definitely on the same level as the previous two. All the focus on the ending has made people forget that.
I guess I'm the only who thought it was shit. I played it only to view the ending to see what the fuss was all about.
If you have played the previous games, it is at least one of the best games this generation. It does have one of the worst endings ever but that does not make the game up until that point any less fantastic.
It's selling for $30 as part of a 24-hour Amazon Gold Box deal, this is not a permanent price drop.
I haven't played the game myself, so I can't really comment on the game's quality, but a few of my friends, who are diehard Mass Effect fans, did not care for the ending. That said, they still enjoyed the game quite a lot, and are getting a ton of mileage out of the multiplayer. Seriously, it's like all they play these days.

That was dissapointing.
Did you play ME1 and ME2? There's no point in playing it if you haven't.
Mass Effect 3 accomplished many things for me, personally. It made some characters significantly less shitty in my eyes--Ashley in ME 1, for example, was a terrible character, and in ME 3 she improves. I loathed Grunt as "the Wrex replacement" in ME 2, but in ME 3 I came to respect his character.
There is a net gain in terms of the character quality in ME 3, I think. Badass characters ramped up the badass even more, and "meh" characters either got better or stayed "meh."
I bought it for 30 bucks like 2 weeks ago from another online website, zavvi.nl, and yeah, it's worth that amount of money really.
The thing with Mass Effect 3, is that even though the ending is complete and utter shit, the rest of the game is really, really, REALLY good. Which is terribly sad and ridiculous.
Get it, you won't regret spending 30 bucks on hours of good entertainment. Just take the ending with a truckload of salt.
Space Spoons: It's selling for $30 as part of a 24-hour Amazon Gold Box deal, this is not a permanent price drop.
This. It is a sale. Speaking of sales. ME3 has sold over 3million copies, outselling ME1 and ME2. So there are a bunch of vocal detractors, but they are a very small percentage of those who bought the game.
I think the game is great, including the ending. I think it is the best of all three--though ME2 was also really brilliant.
Darknacht: I just noticed that Amazon is selling Mass Effect 3 for $29.99, its only been out a month and a half, is it really so bad that no one is buying it? I know most people did not like the ending but most people I have talked to said it was good for the rest of the game, doesn't this seem a little soon for this big of a price drop?
Actually yes. I'd say $30 is still too much
There is no Roll Playing in ME 3 (There are only Paragon and Renegade choices for Dialog. and All of Shepards lines that don't immediately follow a "Renegade" choice are far too nice) The script (While the dialog is brilliantly written) is laden with plot-holes and stupidity. (Udina's a councilor, regardless of ME 1 choice. Cerberus is a bad guy, regardless of ME 2 choices. James calls you "Commander" even though you weren't in the military for all the time he's known you. and many many more that would count as spoilers) The controles are frustrating (5 different extremely important commands commands on 1 button) Most of the enemies have incredibly cheep attacks. Everything besides shooting has been stripped from the game (They even made planet scanning worse) In order to get the Sarcastic air-quotes"Best"Sarcastic air-quotes ending you need to grind through several hours of multyplayer right before you take on the final mission. (Which is exactly the place when the emotional tention should be the highest and there fore it's the last place you want to stop and change your gameplay gears to multyplayer.) Then the ending was so bad that it retroactively ruined the entire series. (It rendered everything you did moot, it offered no closure, ect, ect

Not really, the transitions are more disjointed than the previous two, much of Thessia was clearly scrubbed, and the mid-citadel takeover could have been handled much, much better.

No, it's not comparable. I have a friend who had his dick bitten at the end of a blow job once. It scarred him for life! Literally and figuratively!
Funny (but true) story aside, it really isn't comparable.
The finish is the most important part of a blow job.
But with stories, majority of the time the most important part is what leads up to the ending, and the characters you meet along the way. A good ending makes a story better, but a bad ending doesn't make a great story bad. It makes it a great story with a bad ending.
People could still get 30+ hours of enjoyment out of the game. I think that's worth sitting through 15-20 minutes of blah.

I was just trying to show that, just because the ending of a game was terrible, doesn't mean the entire game is ruined as you had posted (my original quote of you). If that wasn't the point you had made then please excuse me.
It's just a sale. But to chip in with the discussion, until the ending it was brilliant, but then the ending was depressingly awful, so yeah. It depends on what 'officially' ruins a game's quality.

Again that is just how I had seen it. It is by no means correct and is always up for interpretation. I will still hold to this ending and this thought process until shown physical proof (IE, if the updated Ending disproves this completely). I will stay in my Ignorant Bliss Bubble (Patent Pending).
I haven't played it myself but I have a friend who's told me that aside from the ending it's really pretty good. If you already know about the ending and it seems like something you'd like to play anyway, I say get it. What could it hurt?
Let's be fair here. Bioware did ALMOST everything right with this game.
Excellent writing as usual (up until the ending).
Felt like it'd be a satisfying conclusion (up until the VERY end).
Gameplay was greatly improved with more maneuverability, and a significant boost in power to your powers/abilities.
More customization in playstyle with branching power level-ups, the power-affecting encumbrance system, and the return of weapon mods.
New, awesome powers.
Wide variety of enemies, environments, encounters.
One of the best campaigns I've seem with some of the best moments (up until that freaking ENDNING).
All that and a competent multiplayer mode too.
I HIGHLY recommend this game. In my opinion, the game deserves every cent it makes. It's just that I also believe Bioware deserves every (non hateful) complaint they get about the ending. I'd never return it though, the ride was just too good, despite the destination, and I really like the multiplayer too.
