Moments in Games that Made you Cry

I don't know about crying at the end but Infamous and Infamous 2 both had sad endings. The fist one had a better bad guy though.

Austin Howe:
Forever and always: The ending of the original Kingdom Hearts. The ending to MGS3 works as well, but somehow I find it less sad, probably because it's less . . . noble? That ending is shaded with cynicism, and rightly so.

God, even all these years later, the ending to Kingdom Hearts makes my eyes explode in a torrent of tears. I have never been so effected by a game. God damn it! Now I wanna replay the entire series :(

Captcha: happy blessings. Yeah fuck you Captcha.

I got close while playing Samurai Warriors 2, actually, at the end of Katsuie Shibata's storyline, when he accepts that he's a warrior from a age that's already past, and he chooses to die in his burning castle rather than surrender and continue living in a world that no longer has use for him.

Also, Journey was profoundly emotional,

in mgs4 when you think snake kills him self

Tazzy da Devil:
The end of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Both of them, actually. Anyone who thinks Pokemon can't make you cry hasn't played these games.

I was definitely about to come in here and say something about some one in ME3 who had an epic death scene. But you have completely sidetracked that train of thought. I agree with you 100%, that game can certainly tell one hell of a story

".......half as long.

".......twice as bright......I gotta try."

"I know."

The moment in Mother 3 where

realslimshadowen:
Probably the first time was when I did a dark side run in Jedi Knight. That was more from shock and horror than sadness. And I never watched that cinematic again.

Dude, I know exactly what you mean. Quite possibly the best executed "WHAT HAVE I BECOME?!?!" moment in gaming. Especially if you'd played the Lightside already and got to see how that ended.

Ending of MGS4.

"..This is good....Isn't it?"

Call me cheezy but

Red Dead Redemption must ofcourse be mentioned. Final Fantasy 9 was great too in that regard.

Ending of ICO, epic ending of hopeless struggle against seemingly inevitable fate. And the music just made it all perfect.

not to mention

Saviordd1:
Say what you will about the ending, but jesus christ ME3 loved making me almost cry.

I mean look at this shit.

And there's many more, but I mean....
Jesus bioware!

Also losing Lydia in Skyrim gets pretty sad, but I don't know if that counts...

yeah, i never quite cried at anything in ME3, BUT GODDAMN IT WAS SOO CLOSE
however, i have only played it once, and i made every choice i could to get as many people out alive as i could, so the real sad parts i managed to avoid.

i saw them later though, and HOLY SHIT! i mean, mordin! so dedicated, but for what? and then wrex.... then tali, legion, hell, even anderson. even the kid at the beginning made me frown and tear up a little.

also, tuchanka, that had its moments

and how could i forget Thessia? i was literally yelling at the people helping me to go and get the hell out while they could. i can handle 2 harvesters and some brutes, i have a black widow and plot armor, but if you stay you are dead, RUN!
....but they never listened.

its gotta be metal gear solid 4 - big boss scene at the end - manly tears were shed

Fate/Stay Night, Fate ending. Mass Effect 3 brought me close, but F/SN is the only one to bring me to actual tears. And sobbing. On the second playthrough.

That one scene in Persona 4 and the ending. I wouldn't dare spoil it.

I didn't cry over the ending of Red Dead Redemption, but it was quite a punch.

John Marsden's death. That was the only I time I cried actual sad tears for a game.

The ending of Final Fantasy 9 got me to tear up but those were happy.

[EDIT] OH! And the ending of Final Fantasy 8 but that was only because it took me 50 damn tries to beat the f@cking boss.

When I talked to Haas in Deus Ex Human Revolution. To see him break down and ask for forgiveness due to the massive guilt made me cry silently for a minute. Manly tears indeed.

Jynthor:
Manly tears were shed when Mordin died in ME3. And Grunt's scene got close.
Such a shame all that emotion turned to hate when I got to the ending. Oh well.

I shed a manly tears for Mordin and Legion in ME 3. Because I loved those characters.

Sorry, double post

ME 3? How? The closest I had to tears in mentioned moments was facepalming myself to death. It was so obvious that they have to start killing your ex-teammates. It may be sudden only with first victim of Bioware writers, but later it seems more like a mania.

My choice - Portal 2 and Bastion endings. Mostly for music. And Super Meat Boy caused tears when i broke another keyboard trying to beat 7-20 and 5x-20 ;)

Never really got to that point, but I think the closest I ever got was Toby's self-sacrifice in Quest For Glory: Shadows Of Darkness. Of course that was 18 years ago and I've since become completely inured to such...

...aah, damnit. *sniffles*

ME3 (spoiler)

Thane's death
"He didn't pray for himself. He prayed for you...."

Good to see I'm not the only one! I kept hoping he might have survived :/

My answer is in Gears 2, when Dom finally finds his wife. That was a sad moment.

Can't say that I cried, But I did get a little teary eyed when Dom died in Gears of War 3

Irridium:
Haven't cried at a game, but as a kid I did come close when Lavitz was killed in Legend of Dragoon. My favorite character, and they killed him.

:(

Oh man, I know what you mean. And then they replaced him with Albert. Ugh lol. That one didn't make me cry though.

I cried during Final Fantasy VI when a couple characters die in the middle. Also in Final Fantasy VII when Aeris dies. Also Mass Effect 3 when a bunch of people die. And in Chrono Trigger when Crono dies. Basically I don't deal with death very well in video games lol.

In SotC when you're about to fight the final colossus and

The good ending of Infamous 2 made me tear up.

And the ending of MGS3 also made me tear up.

Reading all these replies, none made me cry but i was shocked when i played them. Like the Red Dead Redemption ending, FF7 that girl being stabbed and Mordin sacrificing his life.

Oh, christ. ME3 made me tear up so badly. It was actually the music that did it for me. The track is called Vigil, and I'm sure you guys all know the parts of the game when that track comes on...

Aside from that, the JRPG that came out for Xbox a few years back, Lost Odyssey. I'm not the greatest fan of JRPGs, but... just watch this.

Certain moments of this story were so unbelievably moving, helped GREATLY in part by the fantastic soundtrack by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu. There were also small 'powerpoint' style bits of writing throughout the game that you could read, and some of them... so, fucking, sad. Just beautifully written.

Edit: Oh god. Just watched that video again. Teared up immediately as soon as she said "I don't have much time..." and Parting Forever by Nobuo Uematasu comes on...

I've got a few...

Assassin's Creed: Revelations - 'Sit down and rest'
Portal 2 - Cara Mia, Addio!
InFamous 2 - "I love you, brother"
Red Dead Redemption - Bury me not on the lone prairie
Kira Kira - Kirari's Route

The end of Persona 4... I cried towards the end, recovered then started again during the actual end cutscene.

Then rerestarted again after the very final scene

Fuck I love that game.

Also the last confrontation in case 5 in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations had me in tears because it was so awesome

If you've played it you know what i'm talking about.

I have a feeling Okami will have me the same way once I actually get around to finishing it XP

Ah single line spacing... We meet again, my old nemesis...

Tears of fear were shed multiple times in Amnesia.
Apart from that, I might occasionally shed a solitary tear at the end of a game I found awesome, like the STALKER games. Just finishing those for the first time made me feel so sad, that they would never surprise me again. Then I find out that STALKER 2 has been liquefied. Bad feels all round.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Where soap dies in mw3 :( I didn't see it coming :(

As everyone else is saying here, the ending to Red Dead Redemption, I things slightly spoiled for me because I knew the death would happen, but the nature of it totally took me by surprise. I didn't cry, but I got a sort of emotional punch.
Other emotional punches have been served by the Assassin's Creed series, especially II. Nothing sad happened, but it was that immense ending music combined with the cliffhanger which did it for me. Brotherhood's twist also left me in a state of shock and sadness. Revelations? Er, not so much. I laughed at "sit down and rest".

Judgement101:
Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain got to me in a lot of ways actually, but the only time I really cried during it was
