Should we support black ops 2?

 Pages PREV 1 2 3

The idea of a good CoD after 4 is laughably impossible. I have played the campaigns in all the Call of Duty(s) and I have yet to find one that is even half as good. If they can make a magic portal into the past to get around 4 years of copy paste bull, than I might give it a go for old times sake. But for now it looks to be another copy paste that is set in 2025 instead. If the campaign is anything near good than I will buy it because CoD 4 was the best shooter since HL2 came out originally.

SmashLovesTitanQuest:
WHY IS EVERYONE ASSUMING BLACK OPS 2 WILL INNOVATE????

Let me ask you guys something. You have Black Ops and MW2. They play in different time periods. Do they play any differently? No, they do not, not by much anyway. So why should COD change with Black Ops 2? Just because its 5 years in the future? Yeah right.

Its going to be the same old formula with very minor differences. I am not saying its a bad thing, but thats how it will be.

OT: Well, I probably wont buy it. I got burnt out on COD about a year ago. Unlike the magnificent fuckheads that make up a good portion of the COD fanbase, I actually stop playing a game when I get fed up of it, instead of buying the next game anyway and proceeding to bitch about it everywhere while simultaneously playing the game for 6+ days.

Pretty much this, the devs don't know what"black ops" even means (here's a hint fanboys, not "Vietnam War"). I stopped after BlOps.

...people have been saying this? But...but no Treyarch game was even remotely similar to Halo aside from the general FPS gameplay. If anything, they made their CoD games more like CoD 4...

Yes, yes they have. I feel like I should make a farnsworth reference, maybe post that axe picture from american psycho, say something about letting loose the nukes and bringing it all to an end, but no, I have no words to describe how such people make me feel.

One can only hope these are just people trolling, and not actually serious (Which would simply proove they've played one of the other. Or neither.). And in the end, it doesn't matter. I see retarded comments on youtube videos, get momentarily annoyed, then go about living real life.

Valagetti:

I'll pay $70 NZ,

Lol...wut? I think it's going to come out NZ (Assuming you mean New Zealand) at about a hundred and thirty. At least. That's how much the standard game was for console (110 for PC if I remember rightly) and MW3 came out 150 for everything. Either way....wooo! Another Kiwi!

Go to this website, this is where I buy all my games, for about a year now.

What's all this "support" bollocks? If it looks good (which it does) I'll get it, if not I won't. I'm not going to rush around to Treyarch HQ, make them tea and dole out the Chocolate Hobnobs just because they made a game I like.

Do what you want.
I'm not supporting it unless it gives me sufficient reason to support it, just like any other game.

Introducing Black Ops 2: Now with the most overpowered, unfun, and bullshit killstreaks ever. . .since you know, it's in the future, where the poor infantryman gets torn to shreds by a remote control drone 3 miles away being controlled by a bored 19 year old sitting in a shed somewhere in the drone's country of origin.

Yeah, not supporting it, not buying it. /movealong

Edit: Also . .. what the hell do you mean by support? I don't think the devs need any support in getting the thing copy&pasted and out to the ignorant people who buy it every year.

TheKasp:
Dude... "Support"? I won't support it from my side but awakaning an actual boycot from a community does not work. It's CoD we're talking about. Not even NOTCH could get his fanidiots who figuratively worship him as a godfigure to stop buying this games. Call of Duty: Ponyriding Simulator would be a bestseller!

Pick your battles, man...

Did you read the OP?

He's not calling for a boycott. He's asking us if we should do exactly the opposite.

I don't know, I might get it eventually, my brother will get it so I'll see what it's like at his place before I decide.

oh god.... Is it just me or does this make the game look even worse?

Nobody will abandon COD. Even the massive league of COD haters go out and buy it. Fair play to Treyarch for actually having the initiative to change things up. There is no chance it is going to be a bad game, as COD is always fun whether you love it or hate it.

I literally did a double take when I saw horsies. I love horse riding. Barbie's Horse Adventures is one of my favorite games.

Ok, who gives a shit. Pre-orders are already skyrocketing past 3 and apparently 3 sold about two hundred billion. I don't care what you do. It's going to sell.

How about you don't decide whether to support it or not until you've seen some gameplay? Sound logical?

Some CoD "fanboys" (I hate that term for anyone) are morons, as show the demographics for fans of each game series; it's mostly the loud mouth douché-nozzles who get heard.

Treyarch managed to create the best CoD going, since IW got dismembered, post-CoD4. MW2 was total crap in the end and so was MW3 (opinions people), but BO was relatively balanced with a good campaign.

Problem was I got ridiculously bored of CoD shortly after BO came out, full stop (period).

Treyarch are now (sort of) good developers, and the replacement IW are bad. 5 years ago this was not the case, but that was the past and this is the present. Activision fucked a lot up for me by making a Fifa out of CoD, and I only buy a Fifa game every 5 years or so.

I've lost my pent up hatred for the CoD series now, and I just sigh when I see it. I bet it will be a good, fun game for those getting it but I really couldn't care less if it came with real bells and whistles and an Audi A7 S (okay, maybe I would for THAT).

So "Should we support Black Ops 2", well you can - I'm not going to stop you and I'm sure Treyarch deserve it, but Activision? Pfft. In either case I am just simply not interested, so as an individual...

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Really?

REALLY?

Some celebirty says a game looks good (though I will be the first to admit the graphics don't look impressive at all) and it makes it look bad?

Really?

If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't buy it.

End of.

OP, protip: don't ask a question about CoD on the escapist and expect balanced responses. Everyone's basically of the opinion that the franchise has undergone an exponential decay in innovation since Modern Warfare came out, and has no reason to exist except as a money printer.

To be fair though, Treyarch has taken a bit of a risk this time and will potentially alienate some of its fanbase with Call of Duty 2142. Perhaps they've done this in an attempt to truly change the game for the first time in years. Or, of course, maybe they've done this as a gimmicky diversion to make people less critical of the cloning that's gone on in recent years. I'm going to go with the former and hope that Activision has loosened the vice on Treyarch's balls and something interesting will come of the game.

Celebrity =/= good or smart. She is dumb as a rock and makes a shit load stupid decisions like its her primary function (though I will also admit the only thing I know about her is that whole marriage scandal thing) but with how America is, she counts as a celebrity.

I'll give my honest opinion of this game when a trailer with, you know, ACTUAL gameplay comes out. It's just like when Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer trailer came out (you know the one that showed how they'll be perks in the game, I don't know something like that I never played the multiplayer) all the COD fans ate that crap up like I'm sure their eating this crap up too. Once they show us a trailer of the gameplay and I see for myself it's just you shooting the same generic looking bad guys than I'll give my opinion but until then I'll just quietly sit back and watch as COD fans eat this game up and play the same generic multiplayer now for what is it? The fourth or fifth time in a row?

Support Activision by buying a Call of Duty game?

No.

Korten12:

Woodsey:
It's been through several time periods already. It's gotten more and more restrictive as time has gone on. Why is this indicative of innovation?

Because they're actually changing how the foundation of the Single-player works by adding choice and consequence where there is none. Picking between various missions to go on and based on fail or win change things. Also multiple endings.

Barely any FPSs have this, hell I don't think any recent one's do.

I'll believe it when I see it. Most RPGs can't do choice and consequence properly, let alone a studio that's been making scripted shooters for yonks (and not even very good ones at that).

EA guys: "They love it when we release the same game every year, let's do it with all our franchises!"

Don't buy Blops2:

EA guys: "They hate it when we change things, let's keep making the same game every year!"

Yeah, either way, lose-lose. CoD will do fine though.

It's Activision, not EA. An understandable mistake, since EA does the same thing with every single one of their sports franchises as well as Battlefield.

Also...

The Floating Nose:
Snip

You haven't actually been following CoD very much, have you? Here:
2005 - Call of Duty 2
2006 - Call of Duty 3
2007 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
2008 - Call of Duty: World at War
2009 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
2010 - Call of Duty: Black Ops
2011 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Probably 2012 - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Treyarch has no affiliation with the Modern Warfare name other than it being in the Call of Duty franchise (and I think a part in the Wii port of 3, but who cares about that).

OT: Eh. I've not bought a Call of Duty title ever, and I can't really see that this will be the first one, unless they really decide to shake up the formula.

I actually just started to follow these games when Modern Warfare 1 came out. Before that, the COD 1, 2 and 3 always seemed like Medal of Honor clones to me and after that Medal of Honor became a clone of COD....oh the irony...it never stops...

It's really very simple, I don't get why people are making a mountain out of this. If you want the game, buy it. If not, don't. Fuck supporting or boycotting, you either want the game or you don't.

Hazy992:
Remember how everyone complained that Modern Warfare 3 was more of the same and that they weren't going to buy it?

I didn't.

Might buy the new one if it has zombies. Still playing black ops zombies. Only thing I have been playing for months now.

You're one person, that doesn't disprove anything.

You don't need to. We have been fine without your (the loud internet rage) support for years.

I don't why people take the rage seriously. Millions love the game, where maybe a few thousand, hell, lets say ten thousand, people complain about it on the internet.

It looks like they are moving in an interesting direction with singleplayer. But I will wait to decide until we see multiplayer details

Ok, that's it. I just assumed someone mistyped a word or something, but now that I've seen it several times, it seems to have been done on purpose so I really have to ask:

distortedreality:
Lol, CoD won't fail.

Like every other year, people will whinge, then promptly go out and buy it. Granted, BO2 looks like it's going to be doing a lot differently, but the fans won't change, and neither will the sales.

Like every other year, people will whinge, then promptly go out and buy it.

people will whinge

whinge

What the fuck is this word?

Bloody hell, can we jjust end cod now?

Doesn't look bad Ill be watching it so what happens.

It's just the latest COD with a new coat of paint and a story involving the end of the world through militaristic dominance. The trailer is specifically flashy to make you think you get to do new stuff when in reality you don't. That horse riding part yea? APC/AC130/Jeep rail shooter. Though it may be like the helicopter portion of Black Ops but would end up being go straight and follow everyone else.

Also how is this related to Black Ops at all? Looks more like Modern Modern Warfare three but now with Robots. I'll get it when it hits half price. Oh silly me its a COD game, I'd have to wait till I was 90 before it even hits 75% of the originl price but when I'm 80 I might be able to get MW3 at 50% of the price... when the servers would have been officially taken down :P.

Mr.Tea:

whinge

What the fuck is this word?

I could explain it to you but google exists.

The definition of whinge. You have been enlightened.

No, it does not make it look worse. I would not be surprised if Activision paid her to say that.
