Games that need to be remade or re-released in HD. Pages 1 2 3 NEXT
I'm going to go with KOTOR2 since that was never finished and I would totally pay for a version where everything that was supposed to be there is added in. Yes I know about the mods on the PC version but 1. I own the Xbox one and 2. I hate the controls on the PC KOTOR games. I'll still put up with them but I heavily prefer console for them.
I loved KotOR II but was completely ignorant of any missing content. I will say that the glitches were a nuisance at times and the main character becoming OP made the game tedious and somewhat boring towards the end of the game. But I agree with you, KotOR II was excellent. It was my gate to "Bioware-like" RPG's. (Yes I know it was made by Obsidian)
Well there's a reason for the ending being bad. When it was near completion but still not done LucasArts shipped it anyway and refused Obsidian the right to make a patch to add in the unfinished content. Also Obsidian only had a single year to work on it anyway.
Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2, on all platforms this time. and Legacy of Kain, to get us all lubed up for the rumoured reboot.
I've said it or twice or about a billion times. No, not a HD upgrade. A full gameplay and engine upgrade of the two KOTOR games with added content. Fuck, they could charge 200 bucks for that and I would still buy 7 copies.
Star Wars Battlefront and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger I really loved those games
Kingdom hearts 1 & 2 and RE:chains of memories all final mix.
Freespace 1 & 2 - Hell they are already quite pretty as is but an HD update would be magnificent. I-War2: Edge of Chaos - Same as above, man I loved that game. MechWarrior 3 - HD MechWarrior, epic sauce, nuff said. Deus Ex - Deus Ex in shiny HD? Yes please.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - still the best in the series and deserves a remake. Lufia 1 and 2 - underrated GOLD. Holds some of my best memories from the 16-bits era, and should be remade. Pokemon Trading Card Game - Either make a sequel or remake this with all updated cards from all sets.
I've said this wayyyy too many times: Magic Carpet 2. C'mon Peter! You can do it!
Panzer Dragoon Saga, a JRPG from waaaay back in the old Sega Saturn days. The Xenosaga Trilogy, not too old really but the music in it alone should warrant a HD-release Not been able to find them for a while now, within a reasonable price at least
Stupid double post laggy mess of a connection today, sorry.
Need? I wouldn't say that any need it. That said, a re-release of KotOR 2 with all the content there without resorting to the community would be nice. A graphics upgrade would just be icing.
Yes, we know. No one is blaming Obsidian for it. We just want the full story :-(
Screw an HD remake, just make the damn third one! And...hmm...I dunno, I can't really say some of my favorite older games really need to be remade or anything. I like them how they are and still go back to play them. If I don't, then a shiny new face won't change my mind to go and play it again. Graphics have never been a needed thing for me.
MotherFuckingTIMESPLITTERS!Sorry. I'm just that enthusiastic. I cannot think of another way to exclaim it.
I dunno about BF3, I mean they could completely fuck it up. A HD re-release of both games on the same disc, with online would be great
I'd love to play a remake of Shadowrun for the Genesis. Behold the powers of a gator shaman, in 3d!
Eh they look fine to me, HD release isn't really needed. Plus, I have BF2 on P.C. so online play isn't an issue, I can just connect with friends whenever. If only galactic conquest was playable online though.... And true, they could fuck it up, in which case I'll ignore its existence. Or it could awesome and we all enjoy the sweet taste of blowing up our friends capital ship then bombing his troops on the ground in the same match.
-Syndicate Wars -Crusader: no remorse & no regret
The reason it's impossible is the same reason it can't be done for Final Fantasy 7 - there's just too much damn game to spit-shine.
I'd have to go with Deus Ex and Grim Fandango. I absolutely loved those games and wish they could be made current.
Forget it; this was a double post. Anyway, since I'm here, I might as well offer my sentiment that I really hope Black Mesa finally gets finished, seeing as it's doing the job that Half-Life: Source never quite managed. All the latter did was make boxes fall off each other realistically...
Daggerfall- So much character class customization, freedom, and choice... It just needs a graphical improvement and a major debugging.
YESThis. So much this. We must have another Timesplitters!
im not sure if you know but they are making a shadowrun rpg. my vote would be for system shock to get mouse look and a graphical overhaul
Lufia II was remade for the DS. Sadly not released in Europe... It's an action RPG rather than the original game, but I've heard it's pretty good. Also I have to agree that both those games should be remade. Great games both of them.
I've used the same answer and I'll use it again. System Shock 2. If only EA weren't assholes and were hogging the rights to it.
Metroid Prime would be fuckin awesome in High Def. That game still looks pretty slick, HD would put it over the top. Or, you know, just make a new Metroid Prime in native HD. That would be "acceptable".
Final... Fantasy... 7? That is the go-to response surely?
I was going to say the majority of Final Fantasy games, accompanied by (not shit or cheesey) voice acting. Zidane's voice on Dissidea annoyed me...I always imaged the majority of characters in FFIX to speak with an English accent. Also, Star Wars: Racer.
I was just about to say that. OP Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver needs to be remade.
Deus ex.yeah yeah been said before and would cost to much and memory and current hardware but I don't care.invent new gaming systems if you have to if you have to just give deus ex the OoT:3D treatment and I will die happy.
i think that ea only have the rights to the name and brand.these "star insurance company guys" have the rights to the full game as far as I can tell.its in a bit of licensing hell at the moment.
Games that need a graphical overhaul? Deus Ex, Okami, Ape Escape, Strider (that movement animation... ugh) and Pikmin. Oh, and I'd cream my pants if any of the PS1 sprite side-scrollers (Rapid Reload? Mega Man X4? Anyone?) were remade to look nearly as good as Street Fighter 2 HD Remix or MvC2 for XBLA
Original deus ex plz. And with reworked comabat and stealth too.
Yeah my bad lol I forgot that. But that's what I am hating. Ken Levine has said that he's up for a HD remake or a sequel to System Shock 2, but always sys it's up to EA. I'm pretty sure EA has forgotten about it already >_>

When I say remade or re-released I mean that it should be done correctly (I'm looking at you Silent Hill 2 & 3). Some games over the past few years have been released with hardly any improvements over it's predecessor. Resident Evil 4 wasn't a true HD re-release, it was simply upscaled to a higher resolution. So when I see an "HD Collection" I can't help but tilt my head with confusion as to why developers thought it would be a good idea to not give it the proper makeover.
Here are a couple examples of how to properly remake or re-release a game.
-Resident Evil (GameCube): Not only was it true to the original formula it also improved it in several ways. The voice acting and graphics were believable and realistic. The sense of fear was heightened and they added new mechanics to improve gameplay. It was balanced, fun, and didn't stray far from what worked. For example they added defense weapons to make up for the tight spaces and fixed camera angles. But in return they also added Crimson Heads to keep the player on his/her toes. Even better they added additional areas that explain the overall story better and give veterans an chance to experience something entirely new. This is how remakes should be done.
-Shadow of the Colossus HD- An excellent game and they hardly changed a thing (except the graphics of course). It was nice to experience a timeless PS2 classic all over again with a fresh coat of paint.
That being said I believe these are how games should be remade or re-released. I can understand that it is a tricky undertaking but a lot of people who buy these games are either fans or newcomers who didn't get a chance to play it the first time. Why tamper with what works? Improve the formula if you have to but from setting, atmosphere, dialogue (unless it's awful like RE for PSX), nothing should be changed drastically. In REmake's case the gameplay was tightened and a few extra features were added but nothing else changed. The core formula was still intact.
So here are a few games that I think deserve a re-installment.
-KotOR I
-Mass Effect 1 (improve the gameplay, graphics, and inventory system THAT'S IT)
-Resident Evil 2
So thoughts? Opinions? What games do you think should be remade or remastered?
