Poll: Which Race in GW2 is the Fan Favorite?

 Pages 1 2 3 NEXT

So, who's your pick? And while you're spending time talking about a video game on the internet, why did you pick who you did?

The race I plan to play is Charr, so that's what I'm voting.

But purely for flavour purposes? I very much like these guys: http://www.arena.net/blog/those-sneaky-sneaky-skritt

They're like a crossbreed between The Geth and The Skaven. It's spectacular ^.^

It depends on the profession for me, but I'll probably roll an Asuran Engineer on launch, I love their crazy animations. I've seen a few popular polls and it seems that Humans are the most popular race on average, followed by Asura/Sylvari and then Charr/Norn.

I would've gone Norn, but I hated the female voice acting, so it's plain old humanity for me. I never really enjoy playing aliens/demi-humanoids, and the Asura look flat out retarded.

Totally rockin' it as an Asura Warrior.
I'll probably try one of all once I get it. Not too fond of the gay elves though.

They all look rather lame to me. But if I had to choose I'd go for Norn I guess.

That's kind of dismissive, and apathetic and... well it reads like you were coerced into posting it O.o

Exactly what makes all of them lame?

(I admit the Sylvari read like an eco-nerd's most intimate fantasies made flesh, but there's enough about them that's interesting to make up for it...)

I'd guess that Charr will be the most popular. They are probably my second choice; the Sylvari being my first. >:3

Well there are two human races.
Then you have some kind of beast race. And I never like those.
Some kind of fairy, tree... things.
And finally gnomes, they're not my thing either.

At least give us some Dwarves!

The Dwarves are dead pretty much, all of them underwent a ritual to turn their bodies into stone so that they may prevent the evil in the depths of Tyria from ever surfacing.

If you're into it, it may be worth looking into the lore on the playable races. Even though I dislike the Norn I can completely look past their retarded size because they have such an interesting back story.

Jynthor:

You wanna talk lame? Dwarves are fucking lame. Y'know what a Dwarf is? A dwarf is a stunted burbling drunk with a conglomerated accent that lives in a hole in the ground. Universally, and without exception.

And also they love to mine stuff and they're the best craftsmen in the world. Except for the elves, and the gnomes, and the humans when the mood strikes them.

Honest to Christ, if the conventions surrounding the characterization of Dwarves held true for all fantasy races/creatures?

All minotaurs would live in labyrinths.

All dragons would have diets consisting exclusively of human royalty.

And all gnomes would live in front gardens tending to the pointiness of their hats.

GW killed them all off (and in a fairly metal fashion I might add), and I'm glad to be rid of them. They're a sort of gristle marbling the fantasy genre.

I won't have you badmouthing the best fantasy race to ever be created.
You don't fix what ain't broke.

Jynthor:

A) Yes, yes you will.

and B) You also don't carbon copy it from the source and paste it into every story ever told.

Are drunks friendly and entertaining? Absolutely. Are beards manly and charming in their own way? Sure. This doesn't mean you shoehorn a race of bearded drunks into your setting automatically.

I've been sick of Dwarves since Tolkien finished with them. They're played out, they're boring, they're a teensy bit racist, and they've got nothing to add to any setting that can't be included in better/more subtle ways. The only fun variation of Dwarves I've ever seen are the typical "dark" dwarves from Warhammer Fantasy- and they've only ever been mentioned in flavour text.

Stop being stone cold insensitive and let him have his dwarves. He is probably green with envy that the GW dwarves are too cool.

Glademaster:

Never! I'm tired of putting up with dwarves. They've everywhere, and they're fucking stupid.

The only kind of dwarf I wanna see included in my fantasy settings is the kind that was born from human parents who resent him for that fact. (Hint: Tyrion)

I don't agree. I can't get me enough Dwarves, I love everything from their architecture to their stereotypical accents.
But I was joking in the first place, I have no real desire to see Dwarves in Guild Wars, they'd pale in comparison to Dwarves from other universes and would feel out of place. As far as I can see anyway, I never bothered to look into the lore.

Still, your opinion is wrong, sir.

I kinda have to ask did you get the joke?

Jynthor:

Ok, I take this back.
I read the lore on the races, and... I kind of like them all. I guess I'll go with the Asura now since they are a race of mad scientists and (previously) subterranean monster gnomes, what's not awesome about that?

Glademaster:

Why is it that the reaction a person telling a joke always expects the *least* is for the person they're telling it to to play along with the joke and take it a step further? If I were seriously upset I wouldn't have added a joke at the tail end of my own comment. Jeez :P

And that's better. Do your homework first next time :P

Hmm... it's obviously the race that has both, a plushie AND a resin figurine: The Charr.

Dwarves are anything but lame. Yes, they don't vary from world to world, but they are a powerful juggenaut of a constant. You will always have your dwarves, and they will always kick ass. Elves are sad and lost, clinging to illusions of individuality and struggling to be special. The Dwarves know what they are, and where they belong. The Dwarves continue to advance ever forward, and hold the line against retreat. They may have lost Tyria and Tamriel, but they have made far more gains in Azeroth, Etheria, and millions of new worlds with their mighty fortresses and Empires.

I don't really have a favourite, I love them all.

The internet seems to favor the Charr though.

Scow2:

Well it's not hard to see why. They're a militaristic, atheistic race of gigantic bipedal felines *with horns*. They could only be more metal if they shot lasers from their eyes and shat ammunition.

Depends on what profession i'll be rolling.

Mesmer, Ranger, Thief - Sylvari
Engineer, Elementalist - Asura
Warrior - Norn
Guardian, Necromancer - Human

I guess you could say that i don't like Charr very much though...

Ickorus:

Perfectly understandable. They've put alot of thought into all of them, and even the minor races have alot of personality, charm & history.

Even the *Jotun*, typical savage giant archetypes- have a pretty interesting backstory.

Should just probably throw this out there, The dwarves in Tamriel are actually just another type of Elf/Mer. Perfectly human sized (if not a bit taller)

OT: The Norn seemed pretty cool, I mean; they can transform into bears can't they?

The only race I'm not interested in is the Humans. Although, whenever given the choice I will always pick a whacky looking space alien or a weird fantasy monster race over a human character in an RPG.

Probably will rock the Asura. They may think I'm small, but I pack a big punch.

...

It's not the size that matters! ;_;

I'm mostly playing Asura. Mostly.

They have this odd balance between cuteness and horror (just look at their teeth). Also their attitude in general is... entertaining.

My main class is a guardian because an Asura carrying a big sword is... also entertaining.

Otherwise, I'm playing a Charr Warrior, Sylvari Elementalist, Human Mesmer and Norn Ranger for their stories.

Professions/Races have different stories? The more I hear about this game, the better it gets.

Fans love the Charr. Who wouldn't love a badass warrior-cat society that's part ancient Sparta and part Death Star?

Though my favorite is the Asura. I loves me some magitech holograms, robots, and floating Borg Cube cities.

My main will be a Norn Warrior... I played both Human and Norn warrior in the BWE and I really liked the Norn story so far.

After that, it goes like this : Human Guardian, Charr thief, Sylvari (female, don't know why, I habitually never want to play female character) Mesmer and Human Engineer.

I don't like Asuras.

Four of the five races have endeared themselves to me in their own way, and I suspect I'll make at least one Human, Charr, Norn and Sylvari to experience their openings and starting areas.

Asura are near universally arrogant pricks that need to get their little eggy heads bashed in. They all seem to be engaged in a heated competition of "who can be the biggest jackass" and I can't stand the whole "technomagic" aesthetic they have going. Kind of makes me want to play a charr so I can flatten one of those stupid golems with some good old fashion steampunk artillery.

I believe it is just each race that have different stories, though the professions may have some effect on it. It didn't in the part I played in the beta, just different based on race, but perhaps later on?

Charr is most likely the favorite. They're probably my favorite as well. Norns would probably be in second for me, Humans third, Sylvari fourth, and Asura in 10th.

I don't like midgets. Hate Gnomes in WoW. Don't really like dwarves (mostly because the race feels tired as hell) either.

Charr. For the legion!

I've loved the Charr ever since I started playing Guild Wars, I don't want to play any other races in GW2, Humans are boring, the Norn are too airy-fairy (technicl term, yo) the Asura are too annoying and the Sylvari are just weeds...
