Predictions For GW2's Future? Pages 1 2 3 4 NEXT
Fuuuuck, I hate underwater stuff. I hope they don't make a fully underwater thing.
Good underwater mechanics are rare, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Besides, there's no way they'd make *ALL* of it take place in fluid. There'd be components that take place on land, and likely some components that take place in underwater caves or on ships.
It's not the mechanics I'm scared of.
Ahhh. I see. You'll probably be *super* unnerved if they do a good job of animating a dragon flying underwater.
Oh god no. | |
I predict we will have to go to Elona and team up with Palawa Joko, the undead lord who has enslaved everyone in Elona, because he has some magical deus ex machina device that will allow us to beat the elder dragon Kralkitorik
I figure you're half right. I predict we'll team up with him out of simple need of military necessity (IE: need of troops and magical support). He might be an undead overlord, but we know from the events of Nightfall that he's not above making a compromise when he has to. Odds are pretty good the presence of an Elder Dragon disrupts his activities as much as anyone else's.
It is known that Joko and Zhaitan are dueling it out in the desert. Since Zhaitain is the dragon we take out in the base game I suspect Joko wil try to expad and run into Kralkatorik.
I can not think of a worse scenario then fighting a Dragon underwater in a game. Ever since the combo of Tomb Raider 2 sharks and Majora's Mask as a kid I've never liked going underwater.
What do I expect for Guild Wars 2? For it to crash and burn or at least barely hit a niche market, like all other non-WoW mmos.
Aren't we Mr doom and gloom?
I expect it'll be the biggest and most stable post-WoW success, although it won't grow as quickly as TOR did. Since it'll measure success in boxes sold instead of subscribers retained, though, it'll be more difficult to measure it directly against its subscription based competitors.
You can easily measure the use of its item shop or how many gems have been bought. OT: I think it will do quite well. I can't make any lore related predictions since I hardly know any GW lore. Submarine boss fights would be awesome though.
A pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist.
People will realize its over hyped. It may be good but not THAT good.
I can't imagine them not sending us all back to Elona & Cantha at some point.
Killjoy.
I think your definition of 'realist' is off a little.
The underwater mechanics on GW2 are actually remarkably good.
Introduction? There's already 2 friendly, bipedal amphibious races - The Hylek and Quaggan. 3, if you count the Kodan. I'd wager the Hylek may be playable in a future expansion, as they are actually quite well done now, and wear armour. Another martial class is possible, but I can't see it happening. That said, there's not much to worry about balancing as such since no holy trinity exists. As for Cantha, yeah - That's going to be a war of some kind. Personally, I'd appreciate some kind of stealth thing for the first third or so of Cantha, being unable to reach Kaineng and having to stick to the slums (assuming they still exist) and forests etc. to avoid the authority of the Ministry. I'd wager it'll involve overthrowing the Emperor and rekindling the clans to some extent. The dragon that will be fought is obviously going to be "Bubbles", the Deep Sea Dragon. Elona will be centred around battling Joko, and likely feature Kralkatorrik. Either a Northern Shiverpeaks section will be released to fight Jormag, or perhaps that will involve reaching the Janthir Isles, where I expect the Mursaat reside. Primordius will either be fought underground or upon the Ring of Fire.
What a retarded viewpoint. You may or may not notice the "2" in the name. It has a sizeable following and isn't destined for failed mediocrity like Aion, Conan or Warhammer. It won't outsell WoW, but then it's not copying it either, and therefore not really competing.
Like Guild Wars 1, right?
I predict the following three things. 1) The game is great and it goes down in history as a classic of this era. 2) The game turns out to be mediocre and its eventually forgotten to all but those who found what to like in it. 3) The game is a disaster on the scale of Duke Nukem Forever, with the same results. I think its worth mentioning at this point that i dont really care about GW2, or about whats in it, or even when its coming out.
Wait, aren't the Asura just that?
*Player* race. And the Hylek/Quaggan are all living in freshwater. They'd need to introduce a new race to reside in the deep seas (Krait excluded, they're antagonists to the core). I have such wonderful images in my head of bio-luminescent merfolk in an underwater city build into the wall of a deep sea trench. As far as flavor goes? I honestly don't know what direction they'd go with a 6th race. The Asura are smart, the Norn are strong, the Charr are ruthless, the Humans are tenacious, the Sylvari are adaptable... maybe the Deepsea Folk could be charismatic?
"sips tea" I hope it crashs and burns, and then get burns by a flamethrower. Sorry but i hate that it getting overhyped its liek valve games, but valve made portal 2 so eh I like valve, though its fanbase needs to stop praising them to high hevan. It not the matter of praise, its that it endless with no hate. thats whats annoys me. Also swtor>>>>>>>>QW2 will ever be, from what I know GW2 will have nothing but world pvp and 5 man dungon for endgame, that does not sound exiting at all, mostly because I hate pvp unless I have flamethrowers, to purge cowardly sneaking gits. "contuines siping his tea."
I'm not sure I follow, the Asura are a player race and they used to live under water, unless you mean a race that still lives under water.
The Asura lived underground not underwater.............
So you hate it because it's popular? There's a lot of people hating on it for various things also, just look at GW2Guru, that sites a mess. As for end game, technically everything you do in Guild Wars can be considered "end-game", you're levelled down to match the level of the zones, so if you go to a lv10 zone when you're lv80 it'll be just as difficult (ish) as being lv10. It also has flamethrowers. OT: I imagine they'll open up/create content for the closed areas of the map first like the Crystal Desert, Ring of Fire, Far Shiverpeaks etc. I remember reading somewhere that they're interested in implementing guild halls after launch also. Personally, I hope they allow us to roll a Tengu at some point, I stumbled across a Tengu camp in the BWE for GW2 and they look badass, plus it'd be awesome if they implemented a story that involved them invading Cantha (seeing as they were expelled from Cantha by Usoku).
I stand corrected then, I could have sworn I read somewhere that they did. I wonder where the hell I got that from. But yes, an underwater race would be awesome. I'd love to see underwater environments.
Well I think the underwater mechanics are a bit of a gimmick so far. Though through the last two betas I've spent most of the time on the surface and when it did come to me going underwater I had few weapon skills unlocked versus some higher level mobs. Maybe I just didn't get the hang of it. I much preferred the surface combat anyway. I can't see the store sustaining the game by itself. Hopefully we will see expansion packs coming soon and often. That's the sort of monetisation I don't mind seeing: money for content. That way the devs are induced to keep content coming regularly in order to pay their wages.
I would assume the next race would be the Tengu, since they have their own City. Edit: Yup, they own the Dominion of Winds.
Cantha's currently blockaded off by Zhaitan's fleet of undead ships. Once he's beaten, perhaps it'll be possible to visit Cantha, but it sounds like they basically went into xenophobic isolation. Interactions with them would be....interesting.
Too late. They already said that a large portion of the game is underwater sections. And given that the mechanics for underwater combat and exploration are actually pretty enjoyable, I can't say I mind. I suppose it'll suck if you've got a sea phobia though.
Your opinions are noted and summarily ignored. GW2 will very likely outsell The Old Republic, given its current success with managing to sell every single pre-purchase code BEFORE its first beta weekend. And TOR has sold about 2 million copies....so I suppose it depends on what you mean by "crash and burn", doesn't it? If breaking 2 mil is a "total failure" then I suppose it's possible GW2 won't do that well, but on the other hand....that's a stupid point of view. Either way, it sounds like both of you lack any sense of perspective.
Well, everything you know seems to be wrong. Guild Wars 2 has a strong Single-player and PvE experience, as everyone who's played the beta can attest. Also, Charr Engineers (And possibly ALL engineers) get Flamethrowers.
I expect it will form its own niche in the MMO market, just like TOR has. But will it change the nature of MMOs forever, or kill WoW, or any of the other stuff people have proclaimed it will do? HA! Won't even come close, in my opinion. Have to second the motion that the overhyping for this game is irritating too.
The problem with that is that it's a pessimistic statement, not a realistic one. REAL realists land somewhere in between. OT: I dunno lol. I don't do MMOs. I entered this thread to find out what GW2 was.
I see them heading into Cantha and Elona come expansion time, though what to do with classes I'm still mulling over. For success? Well, there is probably going to be a respectably large influx right at launch that leads to some general (hopefully fun) chaos for the first month or 2, followed by the population either stabilizing to where it will be for a long while or for the population to go on the arise again. Honestly, I don't expect the latter to happen, as much as I hope it would, because it hasn't been hyped very much outside of gamer circles meaning there won't be as much public knowledge about it. Then again, the release date is still TBA, meaning all of this is effectively guesswork (besides how the beta plays (which was awesome) but a subject for a different post).
The people that are saying GW2 is going to fail are pretty stupid to put it nicely. Like other people have said, there's an good following for the game, and the game managed to sell all the pre-purchase codes even before the first Beta Weekend Event. I would call that pretty successful. And if you like SWTOR, then stop complaining on this thread about GW2, and go play that game. It's still possible to play both games, although I can understand with what all the subscribers that SWTOR is losing, it seems like it's circling the drain. I give it an year or two before EA decides to make it F2P. OT: I really don't know that much about the lore to be honest, but I'm really looking forward to this game! I only briefly tried out the underwater stuff, and it looked really cool. Would love to see more underwater cities / exploration!

I'm prettysure the following will happen at some point:
1. The introduction of an aquatic/amphibious player race.
Ever since I heard they were making a serious attempt at having underwater mechanics I started to suspect they'd try this eventually. (If you've seen the *gorgeous* cities the current player races inhabit, you can probably appreciate how awesome Arenanet's take on the lost city of Atlantis would probably be.)
In support of my argument I'd claim this: the most vaguely defined Elder Dragon (the big bads of the game) is the "Deep Sea Dragon". I may be wrong, but the impression I get when I'm told that I'll have to fight a deep sea creature is that the fight will take place at the bottom of the sea. And considering the mind shattering scale of the monster is question, we'll likely need alot of room to fight...
What I'm getting at is that eventually, they'll roll out an expansion that adds a huge chunk of terrain/content to the ocean depths- and when they do they'll likely add a new race to help fill things in. And I for one would be stoked.
2. A 3rd "Martial" Class
It might just be my anal retentive gamer pattern seeking instincts at work, but I can't be the only guy who was somewhat off put by the fact that the heavy classes are outnumbered. If I had to guess I'd say that they'll probably add some type of "black knight" style class to the game at some point. They did mention that Palawa Joko was breeding an army of dark warriors from the Ossa bloodline. Maybe that'll turn out to be the missing link. After all, scholars have Necromancers and adventurers have Thieves- Warriors need their edgy foil too.
3. Political Tensions With China
Sorry, Cantha. But honestly, does anybody *not* expect the new xenophobic Emperor to roll overseas and start fuckin' with people at some point?
