Poll: Steam Sales: Games that You Actually Play Pages PREV 1 2
You should really torrent them if your not going to plan on paying more than a dollar, you're literally taking (albeit a small amount) money from charity. In my book thats pretty bad :/
Eh, some of them. I do play every single game I purchase from steam. How long though, that is a different matter entirely. :P
I buy very few games on steam, but I do play them when I get them, it make take a little while to get to them (because I have to focus on school) but I do play them. side note, right now Portal 2 is $6.80 on steam, so if you want it it would make sense to get it now.
How fucking DARE they promote game sales by offering huge discounts. This is the first I've heard of this sonny, and rest assured I won't stop until they charge the full RRP - no, OVER the full RRP for every game in their store! (And all of them - except LA Noire, it's shit - assuming I haven't waited for the game to go on sale because it's shorter than 8 hours and not good enough to compensate for that.)
I've never bothered to count my steam games, but somebody earlier said I had 74, and their are only 2 I never intend to play again. And I love Metro, but I still haven't managed to sort out the whole PhysX thing that breaks it on everything, but oh well. Also. Too much praise? I just got company of heroes and all it's expansions for 80% off. And it's a fucking amazing game. Although I bought the bundle and looking at it just now, buying them individually is 2 pence cheaper. I'm confused.... But who gives a shit, only 2 pence. These sales have also introduced me to amazing games like Bastion, Orcs Must Die, Cthulu Saves the World, Dungeons of Dredmore, Psychonaughts, and a metric fuckton of other amazing games I would never have had the chance to play otherwise. And, I bought my girlfriend one of her favourite games for £1:50. TLDR: If you don't like Steam fine, but don't say the sales are over-rated, they really really aren't.
Well, i wouldn't say that i've played every game i've gotten off a steam sale for over 8 hours... but i'd definatly say that of the games i've gotten through steam sales that i've played my moneys worth. I mean i've gotten some games for less then 2$ through some sales, and they might provide only an hour or two of entertainment or nostalgia before i get tired of them... but 2$ was well worth the entertainment i got from it. I will say there are a couple of steam sales which have twisted my decision into getting a game i was on the fence about initially only to find out that i dislike the game. And while that is irritating, i still think it is better then dropping full price on some of these games only to find out you don't like it.
I heard of people doing this (never getting around to playing a game they bought in a steam sale). But I had no idea it was that common! Smart shopping tip of the day: if you didn't want it before it was discounted, don't buy it when it is discounted.
I never insinuated this.
I don't have a problem with the sales. Despite how I presented the subject, I just wanted to know how many of the games purchased were actually being used.
The only games I do't play are ones I have yet to play as I play until near 100% completion in most cases so far out of all of my games there are 2 I haven't really played because I disliked them greatly. They were part of a bundle though. For example, I have 52 hours on Terraria(more but some not counted) at this moment of speaking I have 2 counted hours of Cave Story+(actually a lot more but you know Steam offline doesn't track) but it will be more when I go for hard play through and best ending play through. I actually misread the poll and went for >90% when I meant to go for the last option.
This. I've played every game I've bought on Steam, with the exception of Killing Floor, which I didn't buy individually, I bought it in a pack of 13 games.
like...1/10 of them | |
All of them (1) Due to the awesome nature of major steam sales, it is quite possible that some of the games purchased will be shelved for 6 months to a year. (1) When a developer pack is bought, it is because 5 out of the 15 games are far cheaper to buy in this manor than getting them individually. The 10 other games may or may not ever see play.
I usually play most of the games, but usually I don't finish them. When I buy a game at a sale, it's usually because it didn't peek my interest at the time of it's release. I also got a bunch of games from various indie bundles. Also, I've bought a lot of game with the intent to play it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I've probably wasted a lot of money on Steam's sales, but I've probably saved a lot of money to. I usually end up buying cheap indie games when Steam have their sales, so even though I don't get around to playing the game I can still go to bed knowing that I supported some indie dev with a couple of bucks :P On a side note; I've only paid more than 5 euros for a game I didn't really play that much, a couple of times. The first time was ArmA2, I bought it only to try it out though. The second time was GTA4, the poor port wouldn't even run properly.
I play most of them... the only ones I don't play come in bundles with games I do play - and then I still get the game I do play at a discount. Captcha: power tool
I fail to see your logic. Am I donating a lot of money? No I'm not.
The thing is, if you are paying a couple of cents for a game, then you will cost the company money. So in fact it's better for them if you pirate it then.
Don't have steam on computer. So, I guess I could go either way on this one - I have either played none, or alternatively 100% of the games I have ever bought.
It's that paypal takes a certain amount (set amount, not a percentage) from each transaction, so when you pay a small amount for the games, the indie companies actually are losing money. I'm not entirely sure on the numbers, but that's what I've heard.
Paypal takes a cut, credit card processing takes a cut, and bandwidth takes a cut. That's actually why they put up the official torrents; people paying $0.01 were costing them money, so they basically said "here, if you're not gonna give us enough to at least break even, just torrent it."
100%. Why would I buy a game that I have no intention to play? I am not going to buy games on sale just for the sake of buying them.
Mafia Barely played any of them but I have no regrets. My taste in games is very seasonal but I know what games I will like when the season comes. Also if I pirated some game in past and I liked it I buy it even if I don't intend to play it any more.
Just scanned quickly trough my games library and yes, I finished almost all games that I bought, with very few exceptions. There are however titles (two or three) that I regret buying, and will probably never touch again.
I have a terrible backlog. It got nothing to do with steam though. I got Xbox titles, Wii games, DS games, 3DS games and PC games in my backlog. I just have more money for games than time for games. I want to play them and I intend to. I got a lot of games with a lot of playime though.
I have a huge backlog of games to play. I don't have as much time to play games as I did at the Christmas sale when I got most of them and I've had a few more games since. I fully intend to play them though. However, even if I only play for a few hours and don't like it or something, I don't consider it a waste. If I can watch a movie for two hours for $10 and not consider it a waste, then spending 5 or so hours on a $10 or less game is totally worth it. Less than renting it, and I can always come back to it.

Only games I don't play are Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and Doom 3. The former because I haven't gotten around to it yet, and the latter because it came in a bundle with Doom 1 & 2, both of which I've completed.
