Can someone tell me why this super smash bros project M thing is important cuz I dont really understand at all?

I assume it's the new Smash Bros game for the WiiU and the 3DS.

It's a mod for Brawl to make it like Melee.
You can think of it as the next big thing to succeed Brawl+

Oh I thought it was some sort of plan to retcon other M out of existence via a fighting tournament.
