The "Backlog" effect Pages PREV 1 2
No, it actually doesn't. However, do note that as we get older we often thirst for those new experiences both inside and outside of video games. A good deal of people who play video games have a backlog now for some very logical reasons. 1. We are the first generation of gamers who actually grew up with video games and actually can support ourselves financially and that enables us to buy games. Contrasting this to being a child where if you were say had to save up your money to buy a new game(sadly not many kids can rent games anymore and no gamefly doesn't count cause that is aimed at adults as well) the games we bought we finished cause they were the only game in town. 2. The video game industry has only gotten bigger. That means more games and more developers making games for multiple demographics. That does not mean the games are getting better in terms of content but simply that if you see a game you like it is there for the taking. 3. Ease of access. Video games aside from the lack of rental but in terms of ownership has never been easier. With the free to play market now thriving and digital downloads people can easily purchase games without even going into a retail store meaning more impulse buys instead of active research on a game. So yeah a multitude of factors. Personally if worse comes to worse you can always just collect games and then just sell em in a big collection like that guy did for 1.2 million dollars.
Pretty much explains why I have so many games. Plus I get old games/consoles on ebay as well. (Its just nice to have around when I have a taste for Retro (I play retro games all the time. I was playing Castlevania the other week for quite a bit (just keep dying from that same bit... (damn medusa heads! >:/)))) Worse comes to worse, I'll be able to resell those retro games for the amount I paid for them. So yeah. I'm kind of a collector. Fairly casual collector. Within some reason. XD
Nah, I like that I'll almost never run out of games to play. I only finished Assassin's Creed 1 this year. I'm still playing AC2. I haven't finished Bioshock. I haven't even started Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain etc etc. I play games slowly, and I'm happy to have a few different genres going at once. I am yet to finish MW1. It's a 6 hour campaign apparently but I started it over a year ago.
Man, my backlog of un/played/ games alone is well above 50. My backlog of unfinished games is somewhere in the low hundreds (I don't finish games often, I'm one of the 90% that doesn't see the end.) Obviously I don't feel much pressure to finish them, and don't unless I'm loving every minute of it, but I sometimes have a hard time choosing what game I want to play, which is compounded by the fact that gaming isn't my only hobby, and I've got a backlog of books and movies, too. It can be kind of paralyzing, sometimes. It's a first world problem, but a good one to have.
I have a fucking huge backlog but it's getting cleared. I rarely lose interest but some games are never touched again (Last Remnant)
Sometimes I just want to move on to another game, but for the most part, it doesn't bother me. Which is good, considering I have 37 games in backlog (technically 44, having Megaman Zero Collection and Metroid Prime Trilogy).
Question: Xbox or PC version? Cause if it is the Xbox version okay makes sense. But PC? Assuming you have a powerful PC the designers actually just unlocked everything and didn't hold back and were able to fix a good deal of the problems(like the 2 freaking minute load times). I will admit though the one problem I see in that game is that there is honestly too much to do in terms of side quests and VERY easily to get sidetracked and forget WHERE you are supposed to go. But honestly, aside from the jokes that LRR made about the intro the game actually did improve and demonstrated that RPG combat can be made a lot more dynamic cause my god there are a ton of factors you can control when improving your soldiers.
Xbox, the technical issues were fucking bullshit but I put up with it because the combat was really fun an the story wasn't that bad either, I got too distracted and eventually forgot about the main quest entirely. I stopped at that bit where you have to fight in 5-6 battle fields and fight a boss at the end to reach a castle in the middle, I put the game down to play something else and never went back, watched the rest on you-tube.
Yep knew it. I remember when I did a video game podcast that I was told to review The Last Remnant. So I tried to play it on the Xbox my friend loaned me(was too broke to own an xbox) and my god it was the worst console experience I ever had. Even when I installed the game onto the hard drive it was still a pain in the arse. I pretty much had to tell people how cumbersome the game felt just cause you had to wait 30 seconds to a minute going from town section to town section and how long battles took to load and play out(the PC has a turbo mode which basically auto plays, you select the command and the game plays out the commands in double time). Gave it one of my worst reviews. Then the Demo PC version came out on Steam and I laughed and installed it. Everything I was complaining about was gone as if the designers actually listened to all the problems and fixed it all and added improvements where you could actually recruit the important characters you had sidequests with or interacted in the main story like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. Needless to say I bought the PC version and my friend was PISSED that I gave it such a terrible review on the Xbox and yet on the PC gave it a good review simply because the game was actually playable.
Probably the only benefit to Australia's manic pricing is that for the longest time I couldn't have every game I wanted so I became quite picky. So I would never say I had too many games at one time to worry about backlog.
No, and I have a huge backlog too. I feel like I have to rush through a game to get to the next one sometimes, but when do get done with a game I make sure I have everything done with it. If I wanna play it again I will wait awhile before I get back to it since I want to get through a few games first. I have a very long list of games I need to get through but I've never felt a loss of interest in them if I've wait too long. I have The Saboteur that I've been meaning to play and I've had that game for over a year now (I think it's been over a year anyways) and I really want to get to it even though I've heard it's mediocre.
Not really, then again I tend to jump from game to game (old and new) at an alarming pace.
I actually like that. I only got red dead because some guy recomended it to me while I was either pre-ordering some games or buying something. I really enjoyed it too.
thats fair enough...its just in my case I I spend half my time reading about gaming news and upcoming games so I almost always have an Idea as to what I might/will get..again I don't blame the store people as I know its their job but then again I already signed up for your orage card PLEEEEEEASE I don't want to sign up for silver what do you people want!!?? I'll buy them..I'll buy and pre order ALL the games if it will stop you asking me things!

I kinda know what you mean I bought some games because they were cheap rather than me actually wanting to play them.
Now I feel as if I have to play them rather then want to because I spent money on them and don't want to make it seem a waste.
I learned a very valuable lesson through all that cheap ain't for me.
