Dishonored: Non lethal solution for Torturer?

It is said you can play thru Dishonored without even killing one guy. So far this worked for me fine. I was able to complete all side missions without ever killing one.
However the side mission with the Torturer in Return to the Tower is giving me a headache.
It was easy to knock him out but the only option I have in my mission log clearly states "kill the Torturer".
I already completed the Tower and so far I've did not come across a note, or something else, that would allow me to deal with him in a non lethal way e.g. framing him for something. The only option I seem to have is to simply let him go... which kinda sucks.
So is there a non lethal solution for the torturer side mission except not completing it?

Does it make any difference? You don't get any reward for killing him after all, do you?
In any case, I don't think there's an alternative.

Nope.

The quest is to kill him, the only non lethal option is to avoid him altogether.

It's required for the non-lethal playthrough achievement.

OT: I haven't found a solution yet. I think skip it for now until someone else figures it out.

SomeLameStuff:

It's required for the non-lethal playthrough achievement.

What is? I mean completing this side mission doesn't do anything, as far as I'm aware.

The non-lethal playthrough achievement counts EVERYTHING. If you kill someone by accident in a side mission, it counts as a kill and you'll have to reload.

So? What exactly does this fact have to do with the topic at hand?

As far as I'm aware, there's no alternative. It'd probably be worth it to knock him out for the rune, though. Unless you're very good at blinking down from the rafters... Would he see you during the cutscene with The Outsider?

Knocking him out is easy.
Use a sleep dart on the dog then he will go check the room which allows you to blink behind him once he gets around the pillar.
You can also blink directly behind him once he is done beating the corps as there his pattern afterwards gives enough time for that, then you can of course choke him out as well. However the dog will likely go to an alarm state.

Anyway I could not find a different solution then letting him live after I choked him out... the same very much happens with the very last target as well.

Unless I missed something it is a little bit disappointing that they missed these two opportunity's for an alternative solution.

Amazing game non the less.

The point they are making is that you could avoid them altogether and still get the achievement/trophy for not killing them. It's a side-quest so can be ignored.

The only targets that count as Campbell, the Twins, Lady Boyle and the Lord Regent for the Poetic Justice. For the one to not kill anybody, just avoid them.

Story wise is there any point going for a non-lethal playthrough? Does the ending changes or anything?

Yes.

You get a lighter more happy ending for finishing the game with a low chaos setting from a non lethal or minimal killing playthrough.

People also talk to you in a nicer manner throughout the game.

If you go on a killing spree the game world gets much darker, more rats, more weepers and a much darker ending.

People also react to you as if you pissed on their shoes.

Gotcha, thanks for posting.

You could just stop time, shoot a sleeping dart at the hound, and choke the torturer before the dart has even hit the hound. Simultaneous knock-out.

just know. You can kill a couple people(I killed at most 10(total) guards before they saw me and I killed some weepers and a lot of assassins) and still get the good ending but if you want the achievement then you can't kill anybody.

Yeah I had this same thing.

Just choke him out, even though it doesn't say it.

It'll give you the mission brief at the end of the mission saying you took him out Non-Lethally.

Just to confirm, Jaeke is correct. If you knock the Torturer unconscious, your mission ending will count under Special Actions "Defeat The Lord Regent's Torturer".

Even if while still working on the mission the marker stays above his head, and even though the quest says to "Kill Torturer", just knocking him out will do the trick.

The same applies to Lord Shaw in the previous quest. Shooting him with a sleep dart will still trigger his body guards to show dialog that Shaw was "killed", even if you didn't kill him.

samuel got quite nasty in the last mission. Corvo found it quite disrespectful.. he doesnt like disrespectful people

ive heard you can play the tape for the non leathal take down of the main guy, then go back and hide next to the torurer somewhere and eventually 2 gaurds will come in and kill him for you. gives you the check on the mission but i havnt tried it yet.

Should be said though, you don't have to be completely non violent to get the brighter ending. I killed a fair few people in my "good" playthrough, most of which weren't even targets (especially in the last couple of missions) the best way to play it if you're not going for all out pacifism is to obviously, be stealthy, but when discovered, don't get out your sword and pistol and go all Jack Sparrow on their ass (as I have such a tendency to do, I'm currently doing a playthrough based on doing just that), blink away, run, jump, hide. Some times, you get particularly persistent guards who pursue you for so long it seems impossible to shake them off, but it is, at all times, possible to lose them.

Another thing, sometimes it may be better to quickly slit someone's throat to avoid getting detected and causing a bloodbath in the time it takes for you to choke him out. If you're aiming for the good ending, be careful with this, but always know it's an option.

Tranq his dog with a sleep dart, blink BEHIND him. Choke him out.

Simple.

I did a non-lethal playtrough and I didn't need to kill te torturer.

Guards killed him for me...... although I have no idea why. They were fighting in the hallway, his dog was still in the room but that was it.

I strangled the torturer, and at the end of the level in the stat screen it said "defeated the torturer" so the game does aknowledge the non-lethal way too.
