So, I just got around to finishing the campaign of Blops 2. It wasn't until the very end of the game when I realized just how many different choices you were given in the game that could drastically effect the outcome of the story. A lot of them aren't even posed as choices and feel completely organic (What happens in Panama concerning Alex Mason, for example). I honestly felt as though Black Ops 2 was one of the best games I've played this year.
Anywho, as for the point of this thread...in The Walking Dead's video game series, it lets you see how many people chose to do what, but Black Ops 2 doesn't. So I was wondering what choices Escapees made. For example, mine would be...

So far I've heard the games Moral Choice system is fantastic. Haven't played it yet, but I'm very interested to, just to see what kind of decisions I would make (I'd probably accidently get the worst ending like all other games I play).
I'm pretty sure previous Treyarch games have had that kind of thing, but not on this scale.
Anyway, there's a chart that shows the cause and effect of all the choices found here:

I kept this thread bookmarked for when I beat the game so I hope you don't mind myself using my magic to raise this thread back from the dead...although it barely smells since it hasn't been dead for very long.
The choice system in this game was pretty freaking sweet. In fact...I didn't realize it was there until later in the game when an actual "choice" popped up.
WARNING! THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. IF YOU ARE IN THIS THREAD, YOU SHOULD REALIZE THAT BY NOW AND I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR NOT SPOILER-TAGGING If this thread perks back up, I will not be putting any of my things in spoiler tags because quoting and whatnot with them is a pain in the ass. You have been warned...
For example, I didn't realize that you could NOT shoot Alex Mason. I assumed it was like the CoD4 thing where no matter where you hit the bad guy, it takes his arm out (or in this case, it kills Mason).
Along with that, when did they grab Mason? That sequence of events either didn't register with me or I missed something because I was with Mason, then I go up with Mendenez, and then Mason has a bag over his head and is about to get shot by me way down there. Did I miss something?
Anyway, my choices Learned of the mole and I did not kill Kravchenko Did not get Harper scarred (didn't realize there was a choice) Saved Karman (didn't realize there was a choice) Tried to kill Mendenez, Harper lived (guess what! Didn't realize there was a choice!) Killed Alex Mason (can I stop typing "didn't realize there was a choice" yet?) Had Farid blow his cover Killed Briggs (I figured that's what the bad guy would have done) USS Obama blew up (*Sigh...I could have saved it?!? Damn...) Got China as an Ally Spared Mendenez
Also...did you stay until after the credits? What the fuck was that?!?! Or maybe I just saw it for being awesome!
Woods and Mendenez joined Avenged Sevenfold on stage to play a song in a club with most of the secondary characters showing up in the crowd...
Yeah I noticed that too, there was so many instances I thought there was no choice.

I will say, I will be playing again to make other choices.
I will say that I love how the choices were implemented. The best choices are where you don't know you have them. Definitely beats the crap out of just a regular moral choice system.

USS Obama blew up (*Sigh...I could have saved it?!? Damn...)
Mason gets called away shortly before the hostage exchange is set to go through...I just assumed that Husdon led him into a trap, or convinced him that being 'captured' was all part of the plan in the first place.
To save the USS Obama, I believe you have to have China as an ally, spare Briggs, and save Karma for real (Which means killing Harper).
Anywho, one of the most interesting things that I found about the game was DeFalco. If you don't kill him in Colossus, he shows up in the group surrounding Harper as well as on the USS Obama to kill one of your allies but is killed by Farid (If Harper was killed). If Farid was killed, then DeFalco lives up until the very end of the game, where you kill him just before getting to Menendez.

Yeah, even if Blops 2 sucked bad, that alone mad the purchase feel justified. It was equal parts awesome and hilarious. I loved it.
Anyways, my first playthough choices were:
Learned of the mole and I did not kill Kravchenko Got Harper Scared (My bad, Harp!) Saved Chloe (and wasted that bitch, Defalco) Killed Harper (which sucked) *Killed* Alex Mason (shot him in the shoulder... with a .50 BMG round... how the fuck did that *not* blow his arm off?) Saved Chloe on the Obama Let Briggs live (I felt that memdenez would have done that, just so Briggs could see the "new world") Saved USS Obama Completed the strike missions so as to get China as an Ally Spared Mendenez (so that asshole could see his plans fail)
Looking it up, this was basically the gold ending, so I felt pretty good, considering I didnt know that till after beating it.
archvile93: I haven't finished it actually. I'm not very good at RTS games so I've been held up by the strike force missions.
They're not really good RTS missions in that I don't think it's possible to successfully complete one in RTS mode outside of maybe Recruit difficulty.
It's a lot easier if you just Assume Direct Control and follow the military's 'RAMIREZ, DO EVERYTHING' protocol.
What Strike Force mission are you stuck on in particular?
I gave up after the first one ended horribly. Seeing all three objectives get torn apart at once was really demoralizing, even the one being guarded by a walking tank. That turret was also useless. It didn't help that each objective was being hit far too fast and I couldn't switch between soldiers fast enough to cover them all, or worse I try to switch to one group only to find they all died in my absence. I know I don't have to beat them to finish the game, but I don't really see the point otherwise since I'll just to get the, "Too bad the world was destroyed. Maybe if you weren't so fucking terrible at strike missions this wouldn't have happened," ending. To be honest the strike missions seem like a horrible idea to me. I know they were trying to avoid releasing the same game over and over again, but completely changing the genre out of nowhere seems like a bad idea. If I want a tactical style RTS, I'll play World in Conflict, not Call of Duty.

Put all of your units at C and use the Sentries at A/B. It won't last forever, but it should buy you a good amount of time. Once those are destoryed, you can solo any force the enemy sends to take the final objective. The reason you shouldn't keep your units at A or B with the Sentries is that they're too close together and get swarmed with enemy troops. C is more isolated and the enemy gets funneled in.

The only two I couldn't complete in pure RTS mode was saving Chloe and assassinating the Chinese general
...Really? Isn't Second Chance like the easiest mission to RTS though, since it's just searching rooms?
Assassinating Zhao was stupid though. There were only about five hundred soldiers and two hundred AGR's guarding him...and there were literally only 2-3 soldiers that spawned in the back alley where I kept trying to get reinforcements through, and somehow those 2-3 generic soldiers managed to consistently wipe MULTIPLE squads of 'elite' troops.

Second chance is only difficult once you secure Chloe, because the dumb girl will often stop to engage enemies just like the soldiers will unless you take control of her and book it.
And for the last one I took control of a guy, sprinted up an ally on the far right hand side of the map and hid in the ally as I cleared out the square just in front of his VTOL and then sprinted to it, if you have one soldier make it to the VTOL the rest of the enemy soldiers dont matter, you just ace the guy in the cut scene

Yeah, but didn't you have to plant a thing to open the VTOL first?
I had trouble with that, 'cause I'd always get shot to pieces while setting it because I had no backup 'cause they were busy getting slaughtered in the damned alley.
I mean, I did finish it eventually, but not before killing off half the population of China.

Ahh yeah I did have to plant that as well, but once you clear that square, if you still have a bunch of troops near the beginning like I did the population of china funnels toward them because they are more numerous there. From there ya plant the device, pick off the few drones and mooks that come to bother you and complete.
Atleast thats how I did it. I also took control of a dude with a machine gun and rocket launcher. Might have helped lol
All I can say is, as how stupid the plot was and pointless most of the choices were (the subtle ones that didn't prompt to press 'X or A' were great, like avoiding the flames and saving Karma), the ending line by Frank Woods had me crying in laughter.
'What...the wheelchair? Nah...I'm just a lazy shit'.
Hm, first three choices huh? Final Fantasy VII or VIII, Mass Effect, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. Those are the three I'd probably suggest to someone who is overloaded on Call of Duty. On a side note, your friend enjoyed Warfighter? Really? I don't know how, unless he means the multiplayer mode. Because the single player was a complete letdown for me, and I enjoyed the prequel.
Anyway, as for my choices, I got the best ending possible on my first run. Broke my heart to kill Harper like that, especially since I'm positive that Menendez was having Farid do it because he knew about Farid being a mole. Then, for him to go out like that in the next mission. And after it was Salazar who comforted Farid, Salazar just coldly shoots him. That was a choice I wanted to make. I wanted to put one in each of Salazar's legs, then leave him to bleed out. I understand that Harper kills him if he's still alive though. Hope he has a cell next to Menendez and the two can rot together.

I had that same problem. I backed out of campaign and just kept replaying that mission over and over, trying to figure out how to do it. Then I came up with an idea. Move ALL units to guard A and B and let C get destroyed (C being the Water Tower if I'm remembering correctly). The enemies will waste about half the time taking that place out, and any troops that even look at the other two objectives will get torn apart. I lost C, but the other two places were untouched. If you're trying to do this in tactical view only, this makes it a lot easier. If you're taking control of units, it's a cake walk.
Spared Mendenez (so that asshole could see his plans fail)
Same reason I spared him. The moment he opened his mouth and said, "Martyr me," I was like, 'He wants to die, so the worst thing I can do to him is let him live and watch all his plans fall apart. For Hudson, you son of a bitch.' Hearing him beg you to do it was satisfaction for me. Then that scene with him in the cell beating his head as Chloe mocks him, icing on the cake.
Anyone else wondering the same thing Woods was at the end? "Where the hell have you been?" No, seriously Mason. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! 30 years you've been gone. No contact, no checking on your son--who was just a child by the way--no NOTHING. What did he do? "Oh, I've been shot. Better disappear until the man who set this all up is brought down, even if it takes the rest of my life!" I liked the story in Black Ops II until that point. I was overjoyed that Mason was alive, but when the game itself calls out its own plot hole and doesn't explain it, we have a problem. My theory is that Reznov found him, and the two worked together behind the scenes to slow Menedez down
*Skimming through thread to avoid possible un-tagged spoilers*
Ah, there we go. At any rate, I just bought the game last week and I kinda figured I had a choice at some scenes. Honestly, I'm just glad they added that feature. That's more like something you'd see on a RPG but hey, I'll take it on a FPS too!
I'll be sure to come back once I gather enough..choices...
dystopiaINC: loved the whole avenged sevenfold ending was god damn funny as hell. I love it
That was probably my favorite part of the entire game. The kind of "Why the hell not" type thing that should be put in more games.
Lol See now Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite band, been to a couple concerts and the only band I like enough to buy t-shirts for "Not ready to die" is one of my favorite songs by them (they wrote it for zombies in Blops 1) and when i heard they were doing it again for Blops 2 i was very excited. this is how i first heard the song. that funny ass ending scene haha omg just thinking about it has me practically in tears with laughter. "Carry on" is a great song too
to me this is the best COD story we have ever had and the fact that they embraced the random shit like that just makes treyarch awesome. more games need this "why the hell not" attitude it'd freaking awesome
I don't think the multple endings work very well. I did everything perfect, but Karma still got killed on the Obama and then I got the worst ending??? WTF?
