Worst game(s) of 2012? Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 NEXT
Most disappointing for me would be Xenoblade. I hoped it would be the Wii's swan song, a game that would reinvigorate my faith in Nintendo and JRPGs. However, it was just... boring. After playing Skyrim, the graphics and quest system were bleh, and I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over in every encounter. It's not a terrible game, but compared to how hyped I was and how badly I wanted another good JRPG, it was my biggest disappointment.
Assassin's Creed 3. The entire game was just quite lackluster. A monotonous 3 hour introduction that leaves you unengaged, quite a few moments where no game instructions will leave you grasping for straws to find out what to do, and a new main character with the enthusiasm of a rock. Not only that, but the current day story of the game, the one involving Desmond, gets more and more ridculous and convoluted, making the sailing sections and the free running Desmond sections the only part I genuinelly had fun with. 2/10
Max Payne 3. I was really looking forward to it, but picked it up and couldn't deal with the really generic story and clunky controls.
I think Mass Effect 3 wouls have been one of the best games ever had it not been for that ending OH SURE yes there were flaws, plenty of them I'll be the first to say, but the game itself and as an end to the series they came close..so close peopel would probably be bitching[1] about the games flaws eather way, but I think the ending was the nail in the coffin.Becuase it was so bad it retroactivly destroyed ME3 and even ME/ME2 as well......I mean even if they gave us a straight up "shepard turns on the cruvble, reapers die, ice cream for everyone" it owuld have been weak but people proably would have accepted it, probably would have been happy...but what we got defies all logic and explanation It still amazes me when I think about it [1] I know use of that word kind of makes me hypocritical
It's already been said, but RE6... It was bad......
laughing hard still wouldn't give a shit if you didn't like the game had you actually played it you're logic is just flawed and pointing this out to you is harassing you?? whatever
Kingdoms of Amalur for me. I had lots of fun with it initially and thought I was going to really enjoy it. But at some point it just lost its spark. The game felt boring and became a chore to get through. There was nothing at all that hooked me and made me keep playing to see what happen. Tons of squandered potential. It was really upsetting.
As a guy who still puts ME3 on his top five favorite games of the year, I can totally see why people would think it was the worst. The problems were much more than the ending: -(Arguably) Less interesting squad. There are less conversations to be had compared to the second game. James is underdeveloped. Javik is great for the insight he provides. EDI is...awkward. There's a lot of wasted space on the Normandy. I wish they filled some of those rooms with new squad mates. And they gave Zaeed's old room to...whatsername. The IGN girl. -An ending affected by the multiplayer (this has been addressed in this thread). At launch, you couldn't get enough EMS to get all the endings without playing the multiplayer. -Paid, day one and on-disc DLC. -Almost unplayable offline. I didn't know this until yesterday, honestly. The EA servers were down for a few hours, and it kept me from being able to play the 360 game. I tried disabling the internet connection on my console and then playing it, but then it said it would not save any progress I made while playing it offline. For a single-player game, that's pretty horrendous. I don't know how this works on other platforms. I think I read there is a workaround on PC.
Whatever game you liked. I hate that game; worst game ever made, if you could even call it a "game".
In case you didn't already know, the semi-open alpha for CoH2 is up and I think they're still taking new testers in. Just sayin'. ;3
I don't like these kinds of threads because people take "Favorite" and "Worst" with "What I liked" and "What I didn't like". Which is almost never what is actually asked. As for me. I can't say, I couldn't afford any games for the entire year. I've been playing Skyrim. Edit: Okay, reading the thread.
Scarygirl? I enjoyed all the games I played this year, only a few of them came out this year, but I say this as a preamble to give my following statement context. Assassin's Creed 3. After the one-two punch of Dishonored and XCOM (my GOTYs), AC3 was...ugh. Oh the environments were very nice, and somewhat immersive, but really; when quite a common opinion of Assassin's Creed is that it's boring, and I don't think so, it takes some doing to change my mind. It just seems to warrant no meaningful input at all from the player. I LOVED AC2, and admittedly didn't enjoy Brotherhood and Revelations as much as I'd like to have (for various reasons), but after a couple of hours, I just sort of decided, "No more, I am not enjoying this." A shame.
Of the games I've played this year, Diablo 3 was the most massively dissapointing PoS I've encountered. Out of the box it looked pretty good, but once you've been your first playthough - in a only a few hours, I might add - it's true nature becomes painfully apparent. Then there's the fact that people couldn't play the slingle player game which just cost them $60 bucks cos of always onine DRM. To add further insult, it turned out that the already terrible economy was being worsended by duping and botters, the very reasons for the DRM. That's right folks, the DRM is a lie. What's worse is that the game has barealy advanced at all since D2. Infact some things have gone backwards. Sure the game uses a modern graphics engine but that's it for advancement. The randomized maps were few and far between, the sounds were pretty terrible and gameplay massively over simplified. And Short. What I find really hilarious, not to mention telling, is how before launch, Jay Wilson bragged on and on about how they had redefined the Magic Find system. The idea was that people would have to sacrifice other stats to become treasure hunters. SWTOR turned quickly to shit, too. The combat/skill system is massively outdated, the companions are incredibly annoying, which is a shame cos in other ways it had so much going for it. The F2P option is a joke as well. Thank god, for jim. Sorry, force of habit, I mean thank god for Guild Wars 2
ME3 for the fact that I beat it, went back and bought 2 so I could get a perfect beginning with all the characters alive just to have my character get stuck in the final stage of the final mission. Right where your armor is blown off and all you have is a pistol I get stuck in a pile of bodies. Only option was to start it all the way over and I was like fuck that.
Did Zynga release something this year? I nominate that.
True. I pretty much got Future Soldier because I liked Ghost Recon 2. However, nothing I've used so far has the strategic feel of ordering your troops into a flanking position and commanding them from afar using the map. Not much is left to enjoy. Maybe I can let a friend have it.
The fact that you won't let it go is harassment. I've said why I feel the way I do 3 times already, and you just ignore it every time because it doesn't meet your standards when we are talking about mine. I know it's hard being on this site when people are not getting the point.
I guess I'll give it to Ninja Gaiden 3 (the original version). I wanted this game to be good in everyday, since I loved the previous games so much. However, too much was streamlined to the point where it was just a Dynasty Warriors knock off, with the Ninja Gaiden name thrown on to it. I haven't played Razor Edge, since I don't have a Wii U and won't be getting one till the March of next year(my B-days then), but as far as it stands, Ninja Gaiden 3 is a horrible game and my worst game of the year.
You know what? Have some TotalBiscuit. With a few slight redubs in the cutscenes, this game could almost look like a parody. Almost...
It hurts me inside that some of the game that I love is being called the worst game ever. Well, I should've expect that from The Escapist' forum. In terms of worst game, I have to go with Blops 2 for its 'exposition' of gameplay feature. Come on, that's it? What kind of game that have multiple ending and futuristic setting...oh wait, COD doesn't do that so it must be exciting. Go play Sec Ops: The Line which is more exciting. The other game that I hate is Diablo 3 for its long delay of arrival but giving me a disappointing gameplay and the need for online connection. Torchlight 2 is a better recommendation.
This is the worst FPS ever of all time Wait, what? Since when did Agent Washington make Youtube videos?!
i gave into temptation and got the enhanced baldurs gate. second biggest gaming mistake ive made this year. me3 collectors edtion wins that. i have the original disks to baldurs gate sitting 6 feet away. i can install them and run the game without any isues what so ever, yet the enhanced edition despite 4 days of constant effort still will not work. they actually made a 15 year old game harder to get working for alot of people
ME3 was like The Phantom Menace all over again. I mean, I'm 30 years old so I'm basically all dead inside, and yet it STILL hurt. Maybe we should form some kind of ME3 survivors support group.
the genric gameplay fit it perfectly to be honest for me. as an inditment of modern military shooters it worked perfectly
Well, when a game generated 5 years of hype and expectation, bordering on devotion, the Star Wars of this generation, only you can interact with it and actually shape the history... you can expect a huge backlash when they come well short of the mark. Judging ME3 objectively is a tough one, because... it's a well made shooter, it really is. But... i still can't forgive them for turning "The Star Wars of this generation" into a good shooter. So maybe objectively it isn't the worst (specially if you like shooters), but it's a disappointment of epic proportions.
From what I've played? Max Payne 3 It's as if every aspect of this game was specifically designed to piss me off: - Unskippable cutscenes. Given, I haven't played Resident Evil 6 - The demo was enough to make my stomach turn.
I'd allow it on a technicality - most of the DLC has dropped in 2012. Close Quarters sucked balls and I'm not impressed with Aftermath either to be honest. Armored Kill on the other hand, is fucking awesome. Still, BF3 overall is far from a contender in any case. Anyone unfortunate enough to have touched 007 Legends will second that. Utter, utter shit in every single way imaginable.
Well... Games are listed in the order they appear. Resident Evil 6: 19 From this unscientific tabulation we have the top 5 worst games of 2012! (as decided by members of the Escapist who posted games in this thread) 1: Mass Effect 3 with nearly double the votes of its nearest rival. Additional Interesting Facts Torchlight 2 was unique as it got voted as the best and worst game by Loc978 due it being the only game he bought this year. (Seriously Loc978 go to one of the game trading threads or get a Metro 2033 key off Facebook you poor deprived soul). Earliest game to be voted on was the original X-Com released in 1994. Members who voted Spec Ops: The Line (mostly due to gameplay) got into a flamewar with other posters. The Nentendo 3DS was also voted but not included in this list due to it being a handheld gaming device rather than a game. With my poor handwriting the list I made to tabulate the score was spread over 4 sheets of A4 paper, with tally gates for Mass Effect 3 almost going off the page. There were 63 different games that were released in 2012 that were mentioned negatively by posters in this thread. The average of votes per game was 4.2 Hope you enjoyed it!
Wow I really expected D3 to be higher. Wasn't the only problem with ME3 the ending? If so that would be a harsh reason for all the hate. I haven't played ME3 at all so I've no idea if it's sheer dissapointment or what? Thanks for the poll, Ed130 (Oooer missus).
My guess is Diablo 3 was PC only while ME3 was multi-platform and a wider audience. That and nearly everyone hated the ending and many considered the series as a whole was damaged by it.
i can already see this is going to be a hating on the popular kids thread
I just realised nobody mentioned TSW. I completely forgot about that game till I heard it mentioned it was going F2P. Nobody saw that one coming, right?
Yup, Diablo 3 is my worst game of the year, and I also played Final Fantasy XIII, also a shit game but a shining gem compared with the tripe that is D3. The big thing is that D3 was a game that I was waiting for for more than a decade and after all that time we get a game that regresses so far that Gauntlet looks like a massive upgrade from it. From the DRM, to the anti-modding, to the Auction House, to the itemization, to the lack of customization, to the insults within the game to the fans that were following it, to the lack of any endgame, to the lack of any sort of originality. This is a game that obviously came from the same school of game-making as Duke Nukem Forever: take as long as you can to make a game, and make sure that it is worse than the previous games. While you are at it, insult the creators of the previous games and say that anybody who was a fan of those games is obviously an idiot. The game is the worse piece of drek that I have had the "pleasure" of playing in the past decade. It is one of those games that I hope that I will wake up and find out it was a terrible practical joke.
Thanks for doing this. I appreciate your insanity.(Because I was about to do it myself...)

Mass Effect 3 really? So what it had a Meh ending that dosen't make it bad it just makes the ending bad the whole game it self is pretty damn good and by far not the worst game.
Black Ops 2. Me I liked this game the story was a bit all over the place and multiplayer was as fun as I thought it would be but in my opinion if a call of duty game didn't have a bat shit insane story with fun multiplayer some would have gone wrong.
Halo 4. Same as Black Ops except the story made sense.
Borderlands 2. Yeah it sucks if your playing by yourself but with a friend its a lot better but its probably one of the worse single player experiences of the year. (see I can hate things)
But I didn't really play any thing truly terrible or bad but in the sprite of this thread my worse game of this year would probably be Assassin's Creed 3 but its not even that bad a bit boring at times yes but bad no.
So yeah this
