What Does the Bird’s Nest Key/Shiny Key Unlock in BG3?

There are a lot of keys in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3), and it’s rare that any of them are considerate enough to tell you what they unlock. The Shiny Key feels a bit different, though. Here’s what the bird’s nest key, also known as the Shiny Key, unlocks in BG3.

The Shiny key opens the Shiny Chest, which is located on the pillars near the Topaz’s nest. Topaz is a blue jay NPC in Baldur’s Gate 3. He is the bird building a nest in the Sacred Pool at the Emerald Grove.

You’ll find the Shiny Key in a bird nest near the Idol of Silvanus in the Emerald Grove near the beginning of BG3. Getting the key is a pain in and of itself because even if you decide to shoo the bird away, it’s still marked in red, which means that picking it up will get you in trouble. Still, if you can sneak and then pick it up while hidden, you’ll be the proud owner of a Shiny Key.

You can use the Shiny Key in BG3 to open the Shiny Chest, but first, you need to reach it. Go to the area with a bunch of crates to the south of where Aaron, the merchant, is located. There, you will be able to see the Shiny Chest. Select the character of your party with the highest Strength ability and command them to jump on the platform where the chest is located. If any of your characters can cast Feather Fall, do it to prevent fall damage.

What’s Inside the Shiny Chest?

The content of the Shiny Chest will be different for each player. You’ll probably get some gold and a few items. We’ve opened it a few times. The first time, we got arrows that allow teleportation, and the second time, a scroll of flight, which was altogether too ironic to be sad. The last time we tried opening the Shiny Chest, we did it with a character that had already finished all Act 1 quests. We got 79 Gold, a precious stone, and two elixirs.

And that’s what the bird’s nest key/Shiny Key unlocks in BG3.
