A retro look at Jet Force Gemini

A friend of mine asked me to write this for a blog. I kinda think it came out well.

When talking about awesome boss music with a friend, he brought up the music from the final boss of Jet Force Gemini, an old game for the N64. I loved this game and would have beaten it had ONE TRIBAL not been missing...

You basically need every single tribal in order to reach the area in which to beat the game. This proves difficult when you are standing two feet away from a spot where every FAQ and walkthrough in the universe is saying a tribal should be standing but ISN'T.

As such I was left to repeatedly play the rest of the game as it was, and there's a reason it was one of Rare's more famous games from the old N64 era....well, even if it does have like a 70-something on metacritic.

But let's face it. Halo 3 got a 94. You can't trust anyone now.

Full story here.
Something I think I should've elaborated on a bit more is the way the camera worked.

I always hear so much about Jet Force Gemini being this fantastic game and I always feel stupid about how I couldn't navigate myself out of the first level. I don't remember there being a friendly arrow telling me where to go, but I got frustrated and stopped, eventually returning the game back to it's place at Blockbuster without a second thought.

Good article though. Could have gone a little bit more in-depth about some of the game's background information (as in why the hell you needed to get tribals anyway), but maybe the blog itself has information elsewhere. In any case, good read.

This is a game I never really got the opportunity to play through on the N64. I definitely wish this game would appear on the Virtual Console or Xbox live in the futures, as I think it would be worth completing. Perhaps after the next Banjo Kazooie game MS will let Rare tackle this IP.

Hehehe I was able to get all the tribals and finish the game. Damn fine game that.
Anyone who didn't play it should try to get a hold of it in anyway, with no regard to moral/legal issues.

Rare has stated that since they own JFG, it will not appear on Virtual Console.

The most I'm hoping for is a new game with a similar gameplay style, that makes your "over-the-shoulder-aim" work JUST like a good WASD movement.

Man I loved that game and even though it could be pretty sadistic like when you shot bugs in the knee caps or watching bugs mowing down a tribal village but overall I loved all the weapons except for those dam machine gun puzzles
