the Doctor character from tenchu: wrath of heaven. every time there ars a stealth kill, it would show an x-ray picture of what he did. OMG how cool is it to see a skull turn backwards or see a hand close around a heart?!

the Dual-wield Moonraker from goldeneye because it was infinite, shot fast and through walls.

the chlorium bromide gun from enter the matrix. it instantaneously suffocated large groups of enemies, rarely needing to be aimed.

Damn, I desperately need to play Worms again xD

This rifle is just...lovely. It's powerful and accurate. My weapon of choice in any given WWII game.
And of course, the noise it makes is wonderful, absolutely sublime. I shouldn't have to say much about it, really.

Katana314:
I love just about any wooden-type of rifle that makes a satisfying crack with its shot, and then the overstated sound of the bolt. To me, sniping is cool. The pump of a shotgun after killing someone is cool. Bolt-actions combine the fun.

"Why do you never load your sniper beforehand?"
"Because that sound is scary."

The unlabored flawless from ninja gaiden. come on it started as little kendo stick kind of weapon. then it grows into a giant fiend crushing boat oar, that would glow when danger was around. Also its full-charged attack was room clearing.
That or I got to say the heavenly sword, from well duh, "heavenly sword" three types of weapons in one was awesome. its just too bad that the ranged attack was kind of useless.

I've always had a soft spot for the Zombie Electro Bastard Ray. Every car should have one.

Too many to name... It's kinda interesting to reflect on the importance of satisfying weapons in games. No point to go with that, but I'm glad for their inclusion.

My list consists of the ususal PortalGun/GravityGun/Plasmids selection, along with numerous iterations of the similar conventional weapon concepts that just feel good to fire.

To throw in something not previously mentioned: The physics-defying grappling hooks from a lot of quake mods were great fun, especially if you hooked another player. Another quake mod born weapon was the basic alien class from Gloom. You WERE the weapon... a fish eye lens camera directed face hugger thing that instantly killed the opponent you attacked just by pressing the Spacebar jump towards them (provided they didn't shoot you before you hit).

Another different mention goes to the weapons in Fallout. They were all very satisfying to use, despite being a static image in a box and a generic sprite on screen. Stands as a testament to how far good artistry and sound can make a weapon (especially when it triggers such wonderfully gruesome death animations). ;)

Theres only one weapon that shall remain imortalized in gamers heads and hearts. The gravity gun. Its just pure awesomeness, its equivalent to a Shotgun with a chainsaw, grenade launcher, 9mm pistol, vaccum cleaner, knife and iman attachment.

I loved the Ghost Gun from TimeSplitters 3. Simultaneously dealing high damage and also restoring your own health. Now that's amazing.

that's a good one too- the only thing about it is that though the noise is cool, it tells everyone that you're reloading.
bang,bang,bangPA-CHING!! and that's where people can get rushed. i circumvent this by whipping out the 1911 as soon as the m1 is empty to catch anyone ballsy enough to rush ^_^

I loved the Red9 from Resident Evil 4, because it's pretty much just a Broom-Handle Mauser, which is one of my favorite pistols ever.

The Cerebral bore from Turok 2, of course.

The Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device, even if it isn't actually a weapon.

The Torque Bow from Gears of War

Pretty much every gun from Ratchet and Clank

The Landshark mine from Armed and Dangerous.

The Lancer from Gears of War. A gun with a chainsaw bayonet it just pure Awesomeness.

And last, but most certainly not least, the Gravity gun from Half-life 2.

The Fork of Horripilation from Morrowind... it's a FORK! And you have to kill a bull netch with it to please the god of madness, so he gives you a spear that summons demons whenever you want it. Fun.

Retardedly overpowered arrows in the Mournhold expansion to Morrowind: Whenever they hit anything, everyone in fifty yards was paralyzed and poisoned. And there was a way to get as many of them as you could carry.

The Wabbajack in Oblivion: Turns a creature into another creature.

The Lancer in Gears of War: My chainsaw has a machine gun on it? Sweet.

If i could just say all the perfect dark (N64) weapons, i would...but instead i will just name a few, plus some from other games :P

(Perfect dark) Laptop gun:
just a great gun, with the added bonus of turning it into a sentury turret :)

(Perfect dark) Farsight XR20:
Adds a whole new level of fear to the game, never know when your going to get shot. Take the farsight into a room with a single entry, set up a turret and then get some kills with the farsight... great times.

(Perfect dark) Maulers:
Charged up shot was just a brilliant weapon - ate up the ammo, so you needed to try and keep as accurate as possible, by a good hit or two would knock rivals health down pretty quick.

(Gears of war) Lancer:
I know it was unpopular because people hated it in multiplayer (well... they hated being on the recieveing end of it; caught on the business end of the chainsaw :P) but i just loved it. the mix of a decent gun with a chainsaw attachement was great.

(halo 3) Dual SMGs:
Just great weapons - good for cutting somebodies shield down fairly fast.

CONCRETE DONKEY!!!

(It's from one of the Worms games. It's exactly what it says on the tin - a big grey statue of a donkey smashing down anything in its path. Which is usually quite a lot of things.

I second the flak cannon from UT GOTY edition. it was fun running straight up to people and watching them disappear into a cloud of blood. and the redeemer: handheld nuclear launcher, what could be sweeter?

For sheer hideous/hilarious death (undeath?) I loved the flare gun in Blood.
Also in blood - getting the Guns Akimbo power-up and using it with the napalm launcher was always good.

However, my overall favourite weapon reflects my overall favourite game. The blackjack in the Thief series is just the best - silent, no ammo, single hit takedown. It is actually comparable in terms of absolute effect as many more powerful weapons.

Wow, I picked horrible guns. Such a long time ago. I have no idea what I would choose now. I'll probably edit this later.

The Halo CE pistol. Ridiculously high powered, and it fits in your pocket! The only thing more entertaining than that gun was the tank and the rocket launcher. And following it would be the shotgun.

The lancer from GoW is awesome. There's a chainsaw on my gun? Saves me the trouble of carrying a second item! Also, not the game itself, but I love the shotgun at it's proper range. Boom, delicious meaty Locust chunks for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The RCP80 from Goldeneye. Ah, dual wielding those meant for countless hours of fun.

The Shock spell from Fable II. Not only does it leave enemies running around jerkidly as they're electrocuted and suffer DoT, it also flashes their skeletons ala Looney Toons, and leaves a skeletal corpse.

Oh, the lava/liquid nitrogen gun from Ratchet and Clank. Actually, every gun from that series. Those games were brilliant. While some guns were utility, you still had guns that were essentially super soakers filled with lava. Or that created black holes. Or shot nukes. Or turned your enemies into chickens. Or sucked them up to be fired at other enemies. Or the R.Y.N.O., The Rip You A New One. Best name for a gun, ever. Hell, i don't remember most of the guns from that game because their awesomeness is mushed together.

And there's a bazillion weapons I've got in my head that would entertain everybody.

I would probably have to add the mini nuke from the new Fallout 3 and the Blade from Dark Sector. That blade was so fun to use, although the game sucked overall.
