OMG how cool is it to see a skull turn backwards or see a hand close around a heart?! the Dual-wield Moonraker from goldeneye because it was infinite, shot fast and through walls. the chlorium bromide gun from enter the matrix. it instantaneously suffocated large groups of enemies, rarely needing to be aimed. |

No point to go with that, but I'm glad for their inclusion. My list consists of the ususal PortalGun/GravityGun/Plasmids selection, along with numerous iterations of the similar conventional weapon concepts that just feel good to fire. To throw in something not previously mentioned: The physics-defying grappling hooks from a lot of quake mods were great fun, especially if you hooked another player. Another quake mod born weapon was the basic alien class from Gloom. You WERE the weapon... a fish eye lens camera directed face hugger thing that instantly killed the opponent you attacked just by pressing the Spacebar jump towards them (provided they didn't shoot you before you hit). Another different mention goes to the weapons in Fallout. They were all very satisfying to use, despite being a static image in a box and a generic sprite on screen. Stands as a testament to how far good artistry and sound can make a weapon (especially when it triggers such wonderfully gruesome death animations). ;) User was banned for: Ballad (?) of an ex-goth. that's a good one too- the only thing about it is that though the noise is cool, it tells everyone that you're reloading. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 759 Joined: 30 Jun 2008 | also the "Mad Cow" crossbow from the Perfect Dark on the N64. my friends and i had so much fun shooting each other and running around in a haze trying to kill each other with large-caliber weapons or our bare hands :D |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 712 Joined: 27 Jun 2008 | I loved the Red9 from Resident Evil 4, because it's pretty much just a Broom-Handle Mauser, which is one of my favorite pistols ever. The Cerebral bore from Turok 2, of course. The Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device, even if it isn't actually a weapon. The Torque Bow from Gears of War Pretty much every gun from Ratchet and Clank The Landshark mine from Armed and Dangerous. The Lancer from Gears of War. A gun with a chainsaw bayonet it just pure Awesomeness. And last, but most certainly not least, the Gravity gun from Half-life 2. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 500 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | The Fork of Horripilation from Morrowind... it's a FORK! And you have to kill a bull netch with it to please the god of madness, so he gives you a spear that summons demons whenever you want it. Fun. Retardedly overpowered arrows in the Mournhold expansion to Morrowind: Whenever they hit anything, everyone in fifty yards was paralyzed and poisoned. And there was a way to get as many of them as you could carry. The Wabbajack in Oblivion: Turns a creature into another creature. The Lancer in Gears of War: My chainsaw has a machine gun on it? Sweet. |

Paperboy Posts: 17 Joined: 26 Jun 2008 | For sheer hideous/hilarious death (undeath?) I loved the flare gun in Blood. However, my overall favourite weapon reflects my overall favourite game. The blackjack in the Thief series is just the best - silent, no ammo, single hit takedown. It is actually comparable in terms of absolute effect as many more powerful weapons. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1331 Joined: 22 Oct 2008 | The Halo CE pistol. Ridiculously high powered, and it fits in your pocket! The only thing more entertaining than that gun was the tank and the rocket launcher. And following it would be the shotgun. The lancer from GoW is awesome. There's a chainsaw on my gun? Saves me the trouble of carrying a second item! Also, not the game itself, but I love the shotgun at it's proper range. Boom, delicious meaty Locust chunks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The RCP80 from Goldeneye. Ah, dual wielding those meant for countless hours of fun. The Shock spell from Fable II. Not only does it leave enemies running around jerkidly as they're electrocuted and suffer DoT, it also flashes their skeletons ala Looney Toons, and leaves a skeletal corpse. Oh, the lava/liquid nitrogen gun from Ratchet and Clank. Actually, every gun from that series. Those games were brilliant. While some guns were utility, you still had guns that were essentially super soakers filled with lava. Or that created black holes. Or shot nukes. Or turned your enemies into chickens. Or sucked them up to be fired at other enemies. Or the R.Y.N.O., The Rip You A New One. Best name for a gun, ever. Hell, i don't remember most of the guns from that game because their awesomeness is mushed together. And there's a bazillion weapons I've got in my head that would entertain everybody. |
