Gone Gonzo Posts: 3643 Joined: 3 Apr 2008 | ummm dude whats the point of this really if u hate typing and you have Vista *Shudder* i do but its all i can get without resorting to imports, use the voice control, its fucking awesome, it took me 5 minutes to set up 2 of reading for basic commands and 10 to teach the comp. to recognise my voice now i can just stay "Open Steam" no more clicking and typing for me |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2664 Joined: 4 Nov 2007 | This game reliably places me in 3rd or 4th by a few measly wpm and it gets my goat. Oh well, back to it then. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 523 Joined: 23 Mar 2008 | Damn, and here I thought 70-80 wpm was fast... |
On the Record Posts: 7327 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | I'm not going to even click on that link. And from these other posts, I think I might be happier with a Rick Roll. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 523 Joined: 23 Mar 2008 | Aw, come on Anarchemitis, it's just a fun typing game. ...with people who can type 120 wpm... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3664 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 |
What are you talking about. It rates my typing at ~30 wpm, and I'm still kicking ass. (Oh, 2 finger typer). - A procrastinator Edit: I take that back... Depends what they rank you. |

Ok, it's not a rickroll, I promise. But if you're that paranoid, just look through Kotaku's backlog for this reference. The picture associated with it is a little bar graph with variously colored VW beetles. There, now you have a quest; welcome to a meta-game...and people who can type over 100 wpm. I told you guys it's hard. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 112 Joined: 11 Sep 2007 | I lost a race by barely a second earlier. This thing is addictive. |

The only way to fly. Ok, I lie... I use four fingers and a thumb. Left-hand index, right hand index, middle, pinky, and thumb. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3768 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | I can only type around 30 wpm but I usually end up beating those that it partners me with. Great find Franco. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 523 Joined: 23 Mar 2008 | You guys are lucky, I type around 70 wpm, so I keep getting people in the 100-120 range. Still, very addicting, and great fun. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | I don't use all my fingers to type. Average of 69 on that game, meh. I actually only use one finger from my right hand, except I've got a finger which exclusively presses backspace. I seem to be using all my fingers at one point or another of left hand though. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 358 Joined: 9 Nov 2007 | I am a two finger types actually. I could try to learn full hand, but...meh. I ain't doing bad though considering English isn't even my native language. After a few rounds I got 55 wpm. |
On the Record Posts: 6467 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | Dammit! the thing doesn't recognize my space key! here i am thinking i'm blitzing this damn thing and up on the screen is some huge mass of perfectly spelled trash! im not playing anymore... |
Beat Writer Posts: 184 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | Doing reasonably well considering I only use two fingers...got 56 WPM on the last one. Edit:
You have to have the current word spelled right before it lets you hit the spacebar...kind of dumb, but that's why it seems broken. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 385 Joined: 12 Sep 2007 | That shit is lame. Real men who want a typing game play the kind with flesh-eating zombies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typing_of_the_Dead Now THAT'S fun. |

Seconded! |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 955 Joined: 12 Apr 2008 | The format of that website prohibits me from typing fast. I can't view the entire phrase before typing it. Even further, I type at such a rate that I have to pause every time it wants to switch to the next section of the phrase. :| Edit: Nevermind, my browser was being lame. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 104 Joined: 14 Apr 2008 | My average is 53 Words Per Minute thusfar. Funny if some of us actually had a race with each other and didn't know it. How long has that site been around? |
Muckraker Posts: 256 Joined: 13 Jan 2008 | I have to say, this is oddly fun... It feels weird to actively compete with people at typing, but at the same time, it's almost.. exciting (?) to do so? God that makes me such a nerd... |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 536 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Hmm, I also type with two fingers and I get around 40-45 wpm. Which at best gets me second. Must... win... |

my mom could type faster than a 486 and pentium 100 could render some of the text, she was up in the 120 words per minute range. on our old 8086 and 286 she used to make the buffer overflow cause she typed so fast, you'd see her type and suddenly here BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP and then about 2 lines of text appear and she'd have to retype a few things cause the buffer lost what she had typed me i'm in the 80 or so words per minute range and lower once you get everything correct it's always funny having ppl ask me how i type so well, i'm like "well i type a lot" it's called practice makes perfect. ppl are amazed i can look at something else and still type correctly or on the rare occasion carry on another conversation while typing something out |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 882 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | Well...I had 30WPM but that's because I'm used to writing with Firefox spell checker...goddamn little typos. |

I think it may need a little bit more work. Also, that's pretty awesome. I managed high 70s on average, and beat the top-scoring guy in my last race. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1299 Joined: 27 Mar 2008 | Oh, I thought I typed well, but it's only at 26 wpm, god damnit. |
Muckraker Posts: 314 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | This is hard! I only got 28wpm and I thought I could type quickly, and I still won! |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 631 Joined: 22 Dec 2007 | 65wpm here, man i got 4th place by like 1 wpm from 2nd :( |

So you might kick ass for a few rounds then get humiliated by coming in 7th because the quote has a ton of elements that aren't letters, or that your hands get tired. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 104 Joined: 14 Apr 2008 | I know what you mean. Whoever decided to put in the quote with 'gorgeousness and gorgeousity' in it should be caught and shot right now. Especially because I had that quote three times in a row.... |

Ever want to see exactly how bad you are at typing? Well, Typeracer is similar to one of the teaching games, but you're going against other people. You type random quotes or phrases and the game pits you against a few opponents as you bumble through the quote. You don't really get points, but it does teach you that typing like a "1337n3Rd" will make you lose quik.
Oh, and here's the link http://play.typeracer.com/
/* Thanks Kotaku for the sherpa-ing */
Edit: I type at an average of 45 wpm, and I have been consistently been getting my ass handed to me at this game. Maybe with time, I'll learn to type using all of my fingers.
