Despite much protest, i feel that "The Darkness" ranks among the greatest game endings. The last "shot" off the game is very sad, moving, dark yet subtle and open for interpretation. However, without a doubt Shadow of the Colossus has a great ending. And so do Max Payne 1 and 2.
The best game ending ive seen so far is the ending to MGS4 as it is done so well and it ties up any lose ends of the story and it just perfect
I agree with frybird, I Max Payne.
While we're at it, let's remember when and where to use question marks. At the end of questions for example.
I Liked the Half Life 1 ending because you can choose your fate and it leaves room for half life 2
The ending to the first Kingdom Hearts, I admit, was pretty well earned.
i liked the end of halo 1 as it meant i didn't have to ply it any more.
I liked the ending to Halo 1 it was a fun game, i liked the books too they were interesting.
Ouch! this will end badly
The ending to Final Fantasy 5 was pretty awesome, though the ending of FFVII was also awesome
Be that as it may, there is a difference between insults and criticism. I can see how your initial post could be interpreted as a question since you used the inquisitive "why" in the sentence. I'm actually a bit torn on this issue, while the sentence is in the format of the question, one could see it as an alternative way of saying "Now, let us talk about the best game endings." I think we should vote on the question mark, does it belong at the end of that sentence or not? I vote for the period, otherwise we would all have to answer the question "why not talk about this?" with replies like "I don't talk about good endings because they make me unhappy." and everyone would be confused. (Oh yeah, another ending I liked was COD 4, for me the game ended when the American character died, I enjoyed the rest, but that was a good story ending; "...and he did not live happily ever after, the end.")
Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past. Best graphics at the time. Best music. Made me cry the first time I saw it. Gives you time to reflect on all the accomplishments throughout the game. The meaning of life and so forth... actually the answer the game gives is a bit more encouraging than 43. ROFL.
Yes, yes it will. | |
I preferred the ending to Metal Gear Solid 3 myself, much less last minute exposition and it didn't draw out as long. My favorite game ending is Final Fantasy X, even just listening to the musical score for that bit makes me cry. Another favorite ending or endings are the Fair endings to Chrono Trigger, specifically the "Balloon-Fair" ending and the "Mom-Cat-Portal" ending. The Persona 3 Ending wasn't bad either.
Haha, he's a mod. /banhammer much? I'd say definitely, one of the best, Shadow of the Colossus. I can't really think of any other ones at the moment...hmm
A friendly warning bro, he's a regulator Id watch your tongue or he'll ban your ass.
Agreed, It was definately a sleeper hit. Ending makes a tiny bit more sense if you played Ico though. I really liked the ending of Assassin's Creed. I knew before I ever played that it was slated to be a trilogy, so I liked the cliff-hanger. Personally I thought it would have been better if Lucy would have stealth killed the Doctor at the end, that would be cool. Well, that or pole dance. Both would be good.
As much as I find the game to be a disgrace to every other Final Fantasy out there, I actually thougt that Final Fantasy X had a wicked story/ending. It's just too bad they muddled it up with X-2. The game ended, why did it have a sequel? Any game that doesn't scream "sequel" has a good ending in my eyes, though.
The first game that jumps into my head is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
I think it would be good to mention Okami, not only it has a great ending, but the credits section makes you remember all the great moments on the long journey.
I'm surprised that them being far-fetched is an issue when we consider Sands of Time is based around a man who kills zombies made of sand and then absorbs them with his dagger which can also freeze and reverse time.
Agreed, the best endings are ones that actually, y'know, end. Personally, I loved the ending for Resident Evil 4, jetskiing out of an exploding island has always been one of my preferred ways to round off a day.
I liked the hidden ending in the expanded version of "Kingdom Hearts 2" because it's pure awesome. I also liked the ending to PoP: The Sands of Time, and PoP: The Two Thrones.
I agree no question mark. He telling everyone let's talk about this.
Final Fantasy VII, but the developpers got Nintendo syndrome (Wacking game too much).
How has noone said Final Fantasy VIII yet? I can understand if you like other Final Fantasy games more than VIII, but it had the best ending out of the entire series.
No, actually, it's not.
I hated the junction system and didn't like the overall story as much as other FF's but that was a good ending, and the party at the end was fun fan fluff that I wish more game devs would include. Oh yeah, FFVI, another excellent FF ending.
I agree with Joshie, FF8 definately had the better ending than other final fantasies. Due to there being no random-ass boss added on with next to no storyline significance (e.g FF9 being the biggest example). MGS4 was a good ending but... was it just me or did it almost look like they randomly added the bit after the wedding? (i dont know how to do spoiler tags so ill just be vague as possible XD) Shadow of Colossus had a pretty weird ending too... Call of Duty 4 was pretty good apart from the plane bit, that was needless! The Heavenly Sword one was quite good too.
WoW definitely has the best ending ever, haha. I liked Portal's ending. It had adrenaline pumping through me for a good hour, then shows that you sacrificed yourself to win. Another ending like that was in Half-Life 2, but that ends on such a bad note, and so suddenly, it's a little jarring, but it drove me to play the rest of the series.
Half Life 2 ended a bit like an Alfred Hitchcock film, so I liked it. I'm sure that Episode 3 will confirm it's awesomeness, and also that G-Man gets his.
Civ 2 : Landing on Alpha Centurai.
the end of Bionic Commando where hitler says, "you damn fool!!" and then his head explodes. That was awesome.

Since we have all ranted about how some games endings sucked royally, why don't we talk about the best ending to a game ever.
