Paperboy Posts: 17 Joined: 9 May 2008 | I liked the idea of a RPG with a sci-fi setting, enjoyed the storyline, and the soundtrack is amazing. |

Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | I played it becuase I heard it was a good game and didn't play like an RPG. |

What he said. Shining reviews can persuade me to buy a game, but my friends that played it loved it too so that's what sealed the deal. |

A little bit of all 3. Even though i played both Kotor games i've always been a fan of Star Trek and Mass Effect is just more my style. Also, Bioware is the best western RPG developer EVER!!!! :) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2976 Joined: 21 May 2008 | It was either Mass effect or Assasin creed. I bought it. It was fun, besides the faults already mention and the ending that got out of a cheesy american war movie |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 952 Joined: 10 Sep 2007 | I heard it was decent, and there was a 2 for £30 on at the shop, so I needed something to go with Eternal Sonata. ME was fun for a couple of days. I wasn't expecting it to be Kotor 3 without the lightsabers or dualistic subtext, but hey. Not a bad game, I'm just glad I didn't pay full price for it. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1261 Joined: 24 Jun 2008 | I played both Kotors, I am a rpg fan and a fps fan, and when I saw the first trailer from like 2005 I think it was 05 I couldn't wait, I got it the day it came out played it two days straight and beat it by thanksgiving (that was the best thanksgiving ever). I also currentlly lent it to a friend and now I realize how much I want it back. Finally if you can't tell by this paragraph I loved that game alot and went on to beat it 3 more times with the same character just to get the achievements. It is probably in the top 5 games I've ever played. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 4436 Joined: 14 Jan 2008 | I was in the rental shop and it was A)Mass Effect or B)Juiced 2 |
On the Record Posts: 6482 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | I didn't i just never got around to it and i never saw anything overly awesome to make me get off my lazy butt and get it. Probably a good game but to me its KOTOR without lightsabers. |
Muckraker Posts: 295 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | Because it is facking oresome!!! The story, the setting, how everything is done, its all put together so well. (Except turn based stuff. It just sucks, I'm sorry, it does) |
Copy Clerk Posts: 73 Joined: 21 May 2008 | it's an RPG that lets me shoot people, what's not to like? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2778 Joined: 20 Feb 2008 | Easy 1000 ach points :D On a serious note it was simply because it looked good and being a rpg fan it looked like a must play. And it was better than I had anticipated (except for the Mako). |
Paperboy Posts: 37 Joined: 7 May 2008 | Because Western RPGs are really good and from all the videos I seen of this game it was very much like KotOR with Third Person Shooting and a fantastic story |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1214 Joined: 9 May 2008 | 1. I needed (wanted) a new game |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1056 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | I loved it, Bioware make some pretty good RPGs. Although I felt like a Dumb A*s when I got halfway through the game and relized on the uncharted worlds you could open a map on the pause screen and find points of intrest, before hands I kept geting lost. But that was my fault not the games. |

Yes I did the same thing. I just couldn't put it down and everytime I played I discovered new content |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1400 Joined: 10 May 2008 | well, i was promised an erotic adventure with alien/lesbian sex by Fox News...Oh how dissapointed i was |

Extremely. Please don't ban me. As for my reason, I thought it looked good, and I was glad to be correct. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1083 Joined: 11 May 2008 | I thought it looked good as well...I also thought I would be given some freedom of choice, different paths to take and ultimately a different story each time I played... They lied to me... That and I forgot how much fun micromanaging a whole bunch of useless equipment on a not so intuitive menu system was in KOTOR II. [/sarcasm] |
Press Junketeer Posts: 432 Joined: 24 Dec 2007 | I've liked pretty much all preceding Bioware games so, I figured it'd be worth a shot. |
Beat Writer Posts: 172 Joined: 8 Oct 2007 | Two games for forty pounds at Game Station. They just happend to be Rainbow Six and Mass Effect. And it turned out I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I'm generally a fan of RPGs, and Mass Effect seemed kind of good from what I had heard. So basically they're the only reasons I got it. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 665 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | Because I wanted something different that what I was currently playing. I enjoy western RPG's and really enjoyed both KoToR games. The character and weapon customizations were pretty cool. Didn't enjoy all the pointless side missions. And the Mako is lame. But it was a welcome change of pace. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 759 Joined: 30 Jun 2008 | it looked pretty good, but i didn't know much about it. i god reccommendations from my friend, so i gave it a shot |

Muckraker Posts: 244 Joined: 8 Jan 2008 | I bought it the other day, cant play it yet though. My 360 red ring'd, ffs. |
Paperboy Posts: 35 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | I bought it because I assumed it would be like KOTOR. Im going to be hated for this but I didn't like it and traded it back in two days, I suppose I was just expecting a turn based combat game rather than a FPS, or I was playing it wrong. (My guess is on the latter) |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 773 Joined: 7 Jan 2008 | It's a "dream game" thing. I always wanted to play a character jetting around in a space ship within a -serious- Sci-Fi Universe (kinda like Battlestar Galactica, or, in a sense, the "Firefly/Serenity" Universe, less like Star Trek or Star Wars). Not that there are no other games before that allow that...Unreal 2 would be a pretty good example. That +cool cinematic presentation + 3rd Person Action + a bit of freedom to choose your own Story +cool Music +nice Graphics = Sold. Another one of those "i always wanted to do that" Games was Assasins Creed...for that, i think i like it a bit more than anyone else does. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | I would love to play the game, since I've been a fan of BioWare's stuff for years; but unfortunately, myself and a LOT of other people who bought the PC version are unable to because of constant freeze-ups due to an immense amount of bugs present. I'm actually surprised this sort of thing isn't mentioned in the mainstream gaming press at all because, just check the Mass Effect Tech Forums, this problem is extremely widespread. |

It was a bit confusing having completely different controls to how vehicles control in most games. Plus, they tried to make the controls similar to how you control your character on foot, but that sort of control scheme only really works on foot, where you can change direction instantly.
