It's the perfect setting for a GTA game. Australia: I live there, and I can tell you, it's nothing like a GTA game. Gun crime is very rare. Guns themselves are very rare. We do have criminal gangs, but they aren't very big, and it would just feel out-of-place. No, I'd like to see a GTA game go international - why confine yourself to one city? Go to Liberty City, Moscow, Rio, etc. By going international, it would really open up new mechanics, new story lines, new settings... it's the next logical step. GTA4 pretty much perfect the "City" setting. The only step now is to expand to 3 or 4 different cities. Or maybe even 3 cities, in 3 countries. |

Less focus. Focus on one city, and you can get something compelling. User was banned for: Gaming culture is irrelevent. . (Permanent) |

I doubt GTA in any country other than America would work (the British one not withstanding) because it would have the same political commentary. I don't think people would find Australian politics funny... actually, ours is a violent system full of grown men abusing each other, so they might do. |

Actually, thats not a bad idea, get them on as consultants for this. User was banned for: Poll: What is your opinion on the Metal Gear Solid storylines?. (Permanent) |

We've done the faceless white guy with no real affiliations, the italian mobster, the black gangster, and now the russian mob (the last three pretty much being the "cool" gang images for their respective release years). If they do something different, my best guess for the next character would be a Yakuza, and so I'd expect Tokyo as the location (playing in the U.S. as a Yakuza just doesn't have enough power to it). It could even be a prequel (Liberty City stories style) to an existing character in the universe. Unfortunately, we're probably more likely to see a repeat of a prior title (shock horror!). San Andreas could be up, after the relative success of both LC and VC Stories and the new potential of the next gen consoles. Hell, even a GTA: London reimagining into 3D could be possible, what with The Getaway 3 being canned, although that's a little less likely. Australia is no chance as we don't have enough of a superficially identifiable nature (Canada, America, England, etc - all pretty much the same on the outside lads, just admit it). L.A. Noire is already going to cover the '40s option, and a "Wild West" is just not going to happen - it's Grand Theft AUTO, not Grand Theft Equine (yes I know there were cars in that era, but not widely available, and winding a crank before stealing one is just too much work). Las Vegas was already done in the 3rd island of GTA: SA, Miami and the 80's has been covered, and the future would be too much like a bad joke - it works well for RPGs or FPS, but silver suits, aliens and UFOs don't play in a criminal sandbox game (at least without a Star Wars backing). If they wanted to surprise me it would be a 3rd world country - South America, or perhaps even Africa. Rising from slums to the elite, working through drug cartels and militia, dealing with a despot. But the political commentary could render that impossible to do well. |

In example: San Andreas: Hoes of the Strip. Or my personal favorite: Tokyo: Just like New Yor-... Liberty City! |

They did it once before, they should do it again just so we can genocide the chav scum, bastard, inbreeding, dumb shit, twats. Now that would be an unmissable game and experience. Corrupt, redneck cops, ample racial stereotypes of drunken indigenous peoples, meth trade underground, rich alberta rigpigs with too much money and not enough braincells supplying cross canada marijuana trade. Oh.. and icy, snowy roads. Snow shovelling minigames. What's not to love? |

Eh that's true, but if it took that direction then it would follow the cliche that all big shot Western civilization made females munch more carpet then a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner. I would prefer an either blunt disinterest or perhaps we can appeal to all the...Individuals...with different tastes by keeping the sexual content and simply reversing it, but I'm not sure how that would appeal to the mass audience. I have a hunch that many would be turned off and view this as one step closer to catching the "gay" gene. If you wanted to make her uninterested I guess you could tack on a recent death of a husband or something to turn her off to other males while still leaving it tasteful. I mean a tragedy was thrown unto the back of Nikko and it seemed to work out quite well. |

Actually Venice has a great many streets now, and cars are on the upswing. A lot of people consider it be like the city losing its primary charm. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1126 Joined: 12 Apr 2008 | Rio or Bejing would be nice. Rio is already a breeding group for pleasure and vice. Bejing. well you coud have it take place durign the olympics, and you coudl imerse you self in a different enviroment. Im just putting up ideas i dont want any one bitching. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 857 Joined: 22 Jun 2008 | I'd like it to include multiple cities tied together by country-side, like San Andreas. I'm sorta indifferent to the cities in-side the world, I just want some variety between the cities. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 7 Joined: 6 Feb 2008 | I prefer the multiple cities stile of San Andreas, but i guess a GTA : Rio de Janeiro wouldn't be bad. Edit: Gameplay wise, i wish the game would focus more on the different tipes of criminal activities like drug dealing, extortion and corruption. Somewhat like Vice City did. I haven't finished GTA 4 yet (mostly due to RROD) but i played half way trough the game and i had the impression that all mission required me to drive somewhere, kill a bunch of people and drive back. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3664 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | Well, regardless of where the setting is, it'll be banned in Australia... actually, if it were set in Australia, then it'd most like be banned off the bat, seeing as it "would incite the young, defenceless, pure children of Australia to go on a bloody rampage". That being said, it would be nice to see a GTA in Australia. |

GTAII was set in the (nearby) future. It was cyberpunky, and the only gang that appeared on all three areas was a megacorporation called Zaibatsu. Of course you had to read the manual to know about it, as the only hint given to you in the game are things like the upgrade that lets you release thunderbolts when you punch (no, really). Anyway, I echo the thoughts of London. Somewhere in South/Central America would also be cool, but that might be biased because I'm Brazilian and I think São Paulo is just as awesome (and crime-ridden) as NY. Russia also sounds nice. As for Tokyo, I really don't see what's the appeal of it, other than pure japanophilia. It's not a city I associate with 'multiple firearm murders and vehicular manslaughter'. Then again, as multiple people said, they probably won't set it in an city outside the US, since mocking the American Way of Life is their M.O., and once they choose a town it's 'the' town for years until the next game comes out. Unless they pull something like Driv3r and give you several cities. But that's only slightly more likely. |

Vancouver and Port Coquitlam have pot and recently gang killings and Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows has racist rednecks and meth labs. Surrey has... Rednecks, less racist though. The island has rich culture and hicks. And all of BC has a rich heritage that could be unlocked as extras. Also, they could throw in my Grandma as an NPC you have to kill for a mission. |
Beat Writer Posts: 159 Joined: 10 Jun 2008 | I'd also like to see a steampunk UK Victorian setting. Retro-futuristic would allow for it to be sci-fi crime without making it being too out there like making it cyberpunk. It would also allow for the removal of certain aspects that could slow down gameplay, like having to wind-up the engine. It would also be able to throw in a comical aspect, like the ton of cops climbing into and onto a cop car and chasing you waving batons. And you also get art-deco, cos, sprockets, gears, smoke stacks, etc. |
