I'm with you there. The whole game feels kind of stiff and a little boring. And overall I think the graphics aren't especially good either. I'll play it for the story.
I was pretty disappointed. The combat is below average and the controls don't help it, even when you do get used to them. I do love the style of the game though, the Norse mythology mixed with sci-fi works quite well.
I heard it's finished. I think the game will be pretty much exactly what we've seen in the demo.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how the end version will be, I'm just hoping because that's all I can do! :-D
Anyone else think that the enemy designs in the demo were pretty uninspired? I've seen some uninspired designs but this is one of the worst offenders the machines don't really look like anything at all, I was like "Uhhh guys I hope these are not the standard enemies cause they look boring."
Meh, just meh. I'm still not sold on the whole cybernetic Norse mythology thing yet.
I didn't even get to the end of the demo, I was drifting asleep. The combat was totally uninspiring, and the controls were vomit-inducingly bad (The pop-up tutorials gave button commands that didnt even work!). Even the graphics weren't consistent. Some areas looked amazing, and some looked tripe. Shouldn't have ruffled Epics feathers methinks....
I dunno but it seems like this gen some real bona fide dev house gods are tripping and falling flat on their faces...Is it something in the water?
It's "Bona Fide", no "Bonified". Unless you mean the devs got turned into skeletons.
Or are really really pretty...
Thanks for pointing that out I need to remember to use spell check more. :)
It's Latin, I don't blame you for getting it wrong.
Add another "meh" to the pile. After I played the demo I had a friend of mine come over just to make sure my radar was working: it was. What a disappointment, terrible voice acting, HORRIBLE combat, annoying camera (I don't care which you pick they're all bad). Glitchy overall. I'd like to highlight the worst sin of all: the controls. It's not even the lack of camera controls, it's how detached it all feels. Not even just that, they LOVE taking controls away from you and giving them back whenever they feel like it. Like in cyberspace, it looks the exact same as the game world but you can't do freaking anything! Anyways I'll wrap this up. This game caused two pretty hefty sighs in my household. Two solid "Do Not Wants".
Well you're all wrong.. I enjoyed it enough to know that it's going to get bought, and am already planning to play it co-op with my mate.
i enjoyed the game play but there doesn't seem to be anywhere enough skills to make u want to keep levelling up. In games like champions return to arms and baldurs gate there was tons of skills and spells to unlock as you level up thats what too human needs.
Fuck co op give me a combat system that doesn't put me to sleep in an action game. I swear this has never happened to me before in this genre of game. I was getting sleepy playing it. Fuck co-op give me environments that are not dead please. Give me character animations that at least look cool.. T_T Onward to Fable 2. For the record do you need a gold membership to do co-op?
Jep, you do. | |
Sigh well that so much for that, no way I am paying money for that. Need to setup a reminder to cancel my gold membership soon as it serves no purpose. It's really messed up too. I'm a Sony guy but I figured 360 would be shooter king and I'm not comfortable on a keyboard and mouse. (Though PC is better for shooters.) So instead of upgrading or building a new rig I got a 360 and it turns out I ended up getting all my shooters for PS3 once I found out that live uses player hosting for most of the games.
I found the whole Norse mythology thing awfully crammed in like "For ODIN" randomly blurted out. BTW I had a find pound bet with my mate this game would 'rock'
I don't know... I'm still undecided about the game; I think the demo didn't really show you all the game has to offer, which is always a problem when demos start at the beginning. I mean, there's meant to be other stuff you can do (like spider abilities), but this doesn't really get shown off in a demo. In short, I don't think any game focused on story or even vaguely RPGish should have a demo, as they really don't show it off very well.
Ninja Gaiden makes the sword combat of top tier hack and slash games look dull. But it's dull even if you haven't been exposed to that gem. I read a preview that said you could get through the game in ten hours, the previewer also felt like the game didn't finish when it needed to in the sense that it reaches the end in terms of the story abruptly. This concerns me more than total number of hours, though I dare not imagine 40 hours of that lame fighting engine.
I have to admit I was pretty disappointed by the graphics and the controls, and before the demo I was going to buy this game now I'm not sure. I also think it was a huge fail on their part to only have 2 player coop. With 4 it might have been like a better version of phantasy star online, but with 2 it sounds lame. Whats the point of being a healer type character if you always just heal the 1 other dude in your party, that doesn't sound fun to me. Oh well I guess I'll wait and see how this one gets reviewed I'm guessing around 7.3
Wow, I'm the exact opposite. I thought the demo was incredibly fun, and I thought the combat was perfect. Did you guys even try to learn the combat works? I don't want to sound pretentious, but the fighting system is a bit in depth than Kingdom Hearts, and other action games.
Now for my actual opinions of the demo: I found it disappointing. The concept of cyberpunk Norse mythology is awesome, and Silicon Knights could have done great things with it. I thought the graphics were fine, and the locations were excellently designed. No problems there. The gameplay, on the other hand... The combat stopped working whenever the enemies ganged up on me, and there were always hordes of the bastards outside of minibosses. I got about 5 new bits of equipment per fight, and I couldn't or didn't want to use the vast majority of them. The shooting was , in a word, lousy. The unskippable Valkyrie cutscenes made me RAGE. The NPCs were boring - we have the grizzled sergeant, the scared new recruit, the bastard son of Worf and Minsc...
Shadow Skill I agree with you completely but did you ever play anarchy online? I knew a guy called Shadow skill who I used to quest with on anarchy online back in the day
I started the demo thinking it was at least worth a try...but then I regretted it. The combat was boring and the camara was annoying...and when I saw the HUGE cinematic it plays when you die I just couldn't be bothered with it anymore. The co-op is going to have to make my head explode for this to be a good game! Oh, I almost forgot that I hated the AI aswell. Most of the time my teammates where off somewhere else fighting 1 enemy whilst I got mobbed by the rest of them...but it didn't matter because the enemies could be beaten by holding a stick in their direction! RANTING POWERS!
Leon nope never played that game.
I'm disappointed in this game I think it ill be worth a purchase still tho
Mass Effect didn't make me want to sleep though I do kind of agree. My brother made the comment that the game isn't wood, it's wood infested with termites! I guess the termites are eating their way through the Yggdrasil......
I gotta ask, how were you playing it when the fights happened?
Didn't you know? The unskippable Valkyrie parts are punishment for dying.
This wasn't the first ten minutes of Too Human. You could tell it was just a montage thing, taking bits from three different sections. I'm not getting the game. There is such a thing as "too streamlined combat", and it is this game. When I can defeat every mob with a hand behind my back, I am not very entertained.
I went in expecting bile and disgust, so I came out better, but not in a position to play it. The loot whore in me is really wanting the game, because I would like to see how armor sets and swords progress and yes, the combat seems a little stiff but takes a while to get used to. I liked the art, I liked the story concept, I liked the setting... I sound more and more like someone who is going to buy it, but I have Titan Quest, NOX, Fallout 1 & 2, Spellforce 2, Gothic 2, The Witcher.... plenty of RPGs to beat and get lots of cool loot. Too Human will get a rental from me, at the very least.
its a shame tho because this seemed like Microsoft's next big title along the lines of Gears of War and Halo it looks as tho it has the potential to still be but lets just hope the demo is of an earlier build

I played the demo for the second time a few minutes ago. I have to say that the more I play the demo, the less enthused I become about this game. Using the stick to control attacking works more or less but the combat itself is totally uninteresting! I felt like I was going to fall asleep while playing which is pretty sad for what is essentially an action game. The animations for Baldur are just plain stiff, there does not seem to be any kind of visual pay off to his attacks; it kind of feels like he just flails around rather than him being a skilled warrior or a badass. Baldur in the game world just seems wooden to me. The cutscenes were nice though, and everyone was voiced well which is a good sign for the cinematics at least. I'm still renting this game but the story needs to be at least as good as Mass Effect's if I am going to consider this a good game.
