Not overly, but thats not why I dont want to deal with MMOs. I should have said Deal with MMO people. |
Beat Writer Posts: 126 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | I'd like a good one. I like the concept of MMOs. But the gameplay is always kind of blah at best. I'm not a big PvPer anymore though because I started to realize it pulls the jackass in everyone to the surface. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2172 Joined: 14 Nov 2007 | Nah. KOTOR was all about the single-player. Intricate plots, deep characters, actual repercussions to your actions. An MMO could never capture that. My guess is that this will be just another WOW clone with a Star Wars skin. |

Unfortunately, I'm pretty certain you're right. I'm a huge fan of the KOTOR games, but won't be buying an MMO because I can't stand them... |

Is any MMO released nowadays thats not a WOW clone with a custom skin? |

BANNED Posts: 49 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | Hmm.. I always wanted to play KOTOR, but never got around to buying it. The way I see this if they can brake free of a WoW clone ( I can think of one that might have pulled this off)it will make a great MMO. Problem I think is going to be choice thing; how can you really make a MMO where you can't go everywhere without losing friend because you made a differnt choice than them. Gone Gonzo Posts: 1307 Joined: 21 Nov 2007 | I dont think I'll be playing it, unfortunately. Inherit in MMO's is you cant play anyone special, and anything you do has no consequences to the game world, both of which go against the core premise of the first 2 games. I want to not play some random stooge wandering the galaxy in the same era, solely motivated by loot and exp, and who's limited by how much I'm willing to pay in monthly fees. But I guess they had to cash in on the MMO craze WoW started, and they already ruined Galaxies... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4577 Joined: 22 Jun 2008 | This is fail, All big mmos fail at release and then you have to pay them to fix their own mistakes. Its stupid... |

Thats another problem. You are important in KOTOR because your the last (or one of the last) jeti trying to fix (or break) everything. With an MMO its going to be thousands of jeti doing stuff thats pointless because nothing is going to change. |
Muckraker Posts: 289 Joined: 28 Jun 2008 | Yeah, don't care. I loved KoTOR and I tolerated the unfinished game that was KoTOR 2 (loved the finished parts, but my adoration is balanced by my hatred of unfinished story elements). But I like RPGs because I like PLAYING the ROLE of a main character or a hero, not just some denizen of the universe that a story takes place in. I'm already that in real life. I played WoW for 3 months, could have played more but I found it boring after a while. Even if it were more than a WoW clone, it still wouldn't be on my list of games to play. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1374 Joined: 16 Jul 2008 | People are mentioning MMO's being games in which you can never be anyone special. The reason I play EVE is because you could make yourself special. Unfortunately I feel it may well be another clone of the overused JMMO format made famous by WoW. Burn. Rape. Loot. Repeat. >_> |

Age of Conan. Which sucked. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3664 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | Unfortunately, somehow I think that Bioware have shot themselves in the foot. Think about it: if the audience buy KOTOR because they like in intricate story and detailed characters and so on, but making it an MMO would make that disappear, who will buy it? You've got the hardcore fans, sure, but most fans will be repulsed by the lack of story, and all the MMO junkies would be playing WOW. |
Beat Writer Posts: 190 Joined: 11 Jan 2008 | this really and truly sucks. KOTOR stands out as one of the shining examples of the RPG genre, and now they're going to bend that legacy over the table and violate it for money. i want a continuation of the epic story, dammit! i don't give two flying shits about being some citizen in a galaxy where nothing all that important happens! MMO's have to sacrifice story for mass play, and story is what made KOTOR great. I'm gonna go weep quietly in a corner over this. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 712 Joined: 27 Jun 2008 | We already have too many MMOs flooding the market, and it is my belief that we don't need another one. Make KOTOR 3, not World of KOTOR. And actually finish the ending of this one. Seriously, what the hell was up with the ending of the second one? I know it wasn't Bioware who made that game, but still. It's like the dog ate the last 20 pages of script and nobody remembered what they had written, nor had time to think up another decent ending. Oh well, who knows? Maybe Bioware will get REALLY, REALLY, REALLY lucky and somehow make this game absolutely jaw-dropping and amazing? I'm not holding my breath. |
Muckraker Posts: 279 Joined: 27 Jun 2008 | To go against the flow as well as seem like a total tard to the Escapist community, I'm gonna go ahead and say that i'll support the game. Being a fan of all Bioware games, i trust them now to put out good high quality tites. If developed right, it can still be an excellent title, even if it is an MMO. I don't feel like they've shot themselves in the foot, it's more like they've raised up the gun, pointed it into the sky and shot wildly. They are taking an enormous chance with this, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Bioware. Plus, noone said that this game is KOTOR 3. This is just KOTOR the MMO and i can guaruntee you that KOTOR 3 will be coming and it will be the formula we all know and love. |
Beat Writer Posts: 126 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | Well now here's a question. They distinctly say MMO elements a few times. What if it pulled what the beginning of Conan does, where you can pick online (day) or off ((night) kinda, you were still online but you had an instance of the zone all to yourself.)? That way you could do the generic "Kill X of Y" quests in the online turf, with your friends, with other random folk; You could actually RP in your RPG if you wanted to (why not, the KOTOR setting is the next due release for the new edition of the Star Wars RP), take part in huge epic battles... and when you wanted the deep, involved storyline KOTOR is known for, pop "offline" and do that. I'd say if the content was spread 40% offline, 60% online... we could have a winner. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 5 Joined: 28 May 2008 | Hell, I don't even want KotOR 3 until Obsidian finishes KotOR 2. There's a massive amount that was cut to get it in for it's holiday release date years ago. http://www.team-gizka.org/ is working, and has been working on, restoring the hours upon hours of missing and removed content. Keep your fingers crossed. And, FWIW, I wouldn't touch a KotOR MMO for any reason short of tossing it out a window. |

LucasArts giving Obsidian a less than 1 year development cycle is what happened. Personally, I'm amazed they got as much as they did into the game. Thankfully, they also left a lot of source material on the disc, and a mod team is trying to restore the ending.
True. But I'm still (EXTREMELY) disheartened to know that KOTOR 3 isn't in development, and unless LA pulls another KOTOR 2, and ruins it, it'll be at least another 2-4 years after KOTOR online is released until it does come out. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1710 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I'd probably play it. I'm a sucker for MMOs... though they always seem to let me down. |
Beat Writer Posts: 126 Joined: 21 Jun 2008 | man im not into MMO's but if its done right ill check it out im real doubtful though and would much pefer a proper KOTOR 3 |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 713 Joined: 5 Jul 2008 | Well, what if they made it differently than WoW? I mean, it's not like the trend will last forever, it has to go away eventually when people STOP BUYING THEM. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4297 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | I'm sure the people who use to play SW Galaxie's back in it's former glory are excited that this has been announced. |
Muckraker Posts: 261 Joined: 6 May 2008 | I never passed the intro of Kotor II. Apparently the CD was scratched or something due to a glitch I couldn't get passed the 1st part you play as T3m4 (Not including the tutorial). But yeah. There are WAY too many MMORPGS as for a game to be succesful there must not be any competition currently (Seriously though. If there is 40+ FPSs and you want to make a FPS just because there is alot of FPSs think about this... What are the chances of people buying it?) |

So while it has been all but confirmed the question that I ask of the people here is, who actually wants this thing?
Me I am half and half. I loved KOTOR but I am aware of what a good series can do when revived so long after the original.
