As for Nintendo this new audience they're trying to get involved in gaming is making things much more mainstream, which isn't nessecarily a good thing, if dev see more potential in the mainstream less hardcore games will come out leaving us decent gamers starved |

I thought they were supposed to be the Drunks who needed more time? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 123 Joined: 22 Feb 2008 | I just wanted to say you can't Really think of your self even as a gamer when yous go home and crank up the Wii music and seriously have fun with that. From what I've seen, that game was made for retards and blind people in mind. Not to be mean but besides some of the interesting titles like Deadly Creatures, Wii has become more of a high tech "toy" then a game system. I know by every sense of the words video games that the Wii would fit, but in my eyes Wii sports/music/fit are just toys there to distract me. And whats with the old hag with the wrist story? |

I thought the green background mean that was supposed to be Microsoft. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I think Miyamoto's ideas are really far out there and they work best when there's someone to reign him in. I think they just let him go too far out into left field this time around. They need to focus on refining what they have instead of continuing to try to break new ground. If they can refine what they have, I think they'll continue to be successful. Trying to break new ground continually will only overextend themselves. |

Not to sound like I'm parroting Yahtzee, but it seems Nintendo is floundering in between new installments to their franchise games. And I agree that they are becoming a casual gamer's console. And... okay. I mean, on some level, I understand why they're doing it. Gaming is really spreading to folks who haven't been gaming for years and years. Nintendo seems to be keen on grabbing the Peggle players of the world and making them spring for the Wii, which makes sense. The Wii is cheaper, functions as a gaming device and a workout station, is kid friendly, and has a simpler interface than the button-heavy other consoles. I mean, have you ever watched a non-gamer try to handle a PS or XBX controller? It's pathetic and kind of hilarious. So... yeah. Nintendo isn't shooting for the veteran gamer crowd anymore with their system. Heck, hindsight is 20/20, but I think we might have guessed this when the next-genners where first emerging and the Wii wasn't focusing on the hardcore elements the PS3 and X360 were. That's my opinion on it, anyway. |

The irony is that Nintendo seemed to be all of those combined this year. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 114 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | Wow, I feel really bad for Nintendo fans. They really got the shaft this time. I mean, no mention of a new motion-based Zelda, no Ubisoft love to be seen (Where's Red Steel 2?), no new 3rd party support, no hard drive, no nothing. It's quite shameful but it seems that Super Smash Brothers was their last ace in the hole. |

Oh well. I do trust they are going to come up with something. Reality check people, its Nintendo - the people who singlehandedly saved Console Gaming, with a concept that everyone around them thought was retarded, but was actually one of the most brilliant marketting ploys I've ever heard of. |

It was pretty much the same for me and the Gamecube. |
Paperboy Posts: 46 Joined: 7 Mar 2008 | The only Nintendo game I had been looking forward to for the past year and a half was SSBB and now it just sits on my shelf gaining more and more dust. I think that the Wii is destined to become the next Sega Dreamcast. Gaming is entering dark times and our only current hope is Valve because I'm pretty sure their the only competent company left in the industry and everyone else is either money crazed or badshit bonkers. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 62 Joined: 19 Jun 2008 | I must have been asleep. Ok no I just didn't really care since I can't go to E3, but can someone explain to me how E3 has been going on a slow downward spiral? I mean when I heard that there would be a release for the PS2 it made me raise an eyebrow, but looking at the releases for 2008 I just have to use the old cliche that the night is darkest before the dawn and we can only hope that 2009 blows our mind with an incredible line up. From what I see the only game I'm looking forward to is Animal Crossing and that's if I had to choose one out of all of those. |

Comparing the Wii to the DC is a new one. Anyway... There are actually a lot of interesting looking games coming along for all 3 mainstream consoles. It's just that the majority of them on 360/PS3 are for the XBLA/PSN and the majority for Wii are from third party developers - (Madworld, De Blob, The Conduit, MLB Power Pros 2, Dead Rising, Day of Crisis, Clone Wars...) |

What about Insomniac? or Rockstar? or Sucker Punch? or Grasshopper (Suda 51 and his team, and their peyote dealer)? or IO (I'm aware that they made Kane and Lynch, but they also made the Hitman series, and are still making it, with 5 out either this year or next. They have 4 out of 5 completely right, which ain't half bad)? or Harmonix? We've seen some dark stuff, but thats because e3 decided to end on a bad note. Or, more a severely depressing note. |
Beat Writer Posts: 153 Joined: 21 May 2008 | Just to clear it up about that Penny Arcade comic, the first panel is Microsoft, the second panel is Nintendo and the third is Sony. I didn't even watch any of E3 and I could work that out. |

Either that, or he's just trying save face in wake of the huge dissapointment. I say the former. |

Nooo, by doing that they shot us hardcore gamers in the head and made themselves way too rich. Should have seen this coming. Since the release of the 64, it has been going downward, and now Nintendo has finally bailed out of the 'gamers game market' and found greener grass near a main stream. Or something. Screwed bigtime |

We'll REALLY be entering dark times if a Half-life game sucks, and EA becomes a great game developer. Oh god, I drank too much Dr. Pepper... |

Although there is the possibility that he is just trying to excuse a rather underwhelming showing at E3, its too soon to infer anything like that. Didn't Miyamoto have a hand in making some of the zanier games shown at E3 so he may not see them as dissapointing? Regardless, only time will tell, unfortunately for some wii owners who only have Animal Crossing to look forward to. I'm undecided about buying a wii and Nintendo aren't helping my indecision much. Sooner they announce Kid Icarus the better, as long as they can pull off a Metroid Prime-esque revival of the franchise. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 55 Joined: 16 May 2008 | Well, that was a bizarre press conference for Nintendo. While it's unfortunate that there wasn't much interesting stuff, I think it's premature to be predicting the death of Nintendo. Let us not forget the announcement of the Wii...nobody...NOBODY thought it would work. Believe me, they'll announce something in the next couple of months that will blow everyone away. (Please don't let it be the Virtual Boy Advance). |

Really? Maybe it's because you didn't watch E3 that you think that. The guy in the second panel looks nearly identical to whoever that guy was that was doing Sony's piece, hence the reason that we all think that that one is supposed to be Sony. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 379 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | I think Nintendo's just in a ditch right now. Cheapest console on the market, started out with innovation everyone's copying (Touch screen handheld [Sony has patented one], Motion sensitive controller [Microsoft], "family friendly [Microsoft]). They need something big. A redesigned DS. A late, albeit well received, release of Call of Duty 4 or The Orange Box (Both could probably run on it). A new game from PC designers extraordinare VALVe. Give them a year to replan. |
Beat Writer Posts: 216 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | Nintendo has been a dead dog for years on the software side, all they ever do is shoot out the same garbage with better graphics and a bunch of blazing usually useless gimmicks to trick you into thinking it is something new. This is from a fan of the Zelda series and who owns the Metroid series. Of course there was no Zelda announcement, they need to save that for when thier new line of "innovative, original" titles falls flat and they need something to convince you to not toss the Wii in the trash. |

Seriously. What happened? Nintendo is dead. Wii Music? WTF?! Really, this "new" Nintendo is seriously messed up. Before, they kind of left the "hardcore" gamers out, but there were still good games! Now... by reaching out to grannies and chicks, they've pretty much shot themselves in the head. They said that they would reveal something to appease the "core" gamers, so where is it?! C'mon, they re-designed Pit from Kid Icarus after 15 or so years for SSBB, and did nothing?! What happened? What do you guys think, are they gonna release any games worth buying now?
Check out this website, they have some articles that made me cringe. And cry a bit. Shigeru Miyamoto, the god-father of gaming, looking like a complete idiot. People look beter playing Guitar Hero.
