I don't really get all this collecting business. For me, the only thing that is actually worth anything is the game itself.

I have still got Knife Edge for the N64, mostly because no bugger will take it off me.

I don't actually collect proper, I just don't get rid of games that I won't ever be able to buy again. Plus I've never paid more than Retail price for a single one of these.

Suikoden 2 ($300 at my local game traders, I paid $30 for it)
Suikoden 3
Suikoden 4
Suikoden 5
Shadow Hearts 1
Shadow Hearts 2
Shadow Hearts 3
Zone of the Enders 2
(When I say Original Copy I mean Not Greatest Hits)
Original Copy Parasite Eve
Original Copy Vagrant Story
Original Copy Final Fantasy VII
Original Copy Final Fantasy VIII
Original Copy Xenogears
Legend of Mana
Front Mission 3
Armored Core
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

i guess Pinball Cabinets would be the only collectible that would fit that bill, eh?

i kept all the mgs games par 1 and all final fantasy games i bought. the only games i always keep now are multiplayer games and 007 on the ps1, i thought it would be as good as the goldeneye or man with the golden gun games but the only reason i have used it is so that i have a psp copy which will one day work when i can install custom firmware or down grade to a lower one.

slighley off topic can anyone tell me how to down grade or not require a serial number. my problem is that i cant play ps1 games with a serial number.

Hmmm... stuff that I have never seen another copy of that I own...

Robotrek
Paladins Quest
Tecmos Deception
Tales of Destiny 2
Shadow Madness
NES Uncharted Waters
EVO: Search for eden
Elemental Gearbolt
Shining the holy ark
Shining in the Darkness
Beyond the beyond (somebody probably bought these to destroy them and rid the world of their evil)
Ogre Battle SNES
X-Com
Shining Wisdom
Rhapsody (why do I own this game?)
Kodelka
I've seen a few other final fantasy 2 snes games out there, but not for a couple of years
People like to hoard Mario rpg and chrono trigger as well.
SNES FF3 is fairly common, but a worthwhile grab.

Suikoden 2 has always been one of my favorite games. I've never really thought of it as rare. I recently lost my suikoden 1, which is kinda hard to replace. I'm not so much of a collector as much as I hate to sell my games, and replay almost all of them. Pretty much all of my games were bought when they were new (such as final fantasy 7 the week it was released in US). Only game I've ever had trouble getting ahold of new was Grandia Xtreme (which wasn't really all that X-treme).

Maybe it's different in the states, Suikoden 2 is the Holy Grail of rare games up here, it's worth more than FF6 because it's never seen a rerelease. In fact, the cheapest Suikoden Game at the game trading places in Calgary is $70 (for Suikoden 5) wheras I've seen Suikoden 2 for upwards of $300.

Well, there are many different types of collectors. I, myself, justify my collecting games by saying that "well, they'll be valuable one day!", when in reality I know that I'll never trade them-- I love 'em too much! So, I play them-- but I still am fanatical about keeping them in flawless condition. I actually have a box of gloves I stole when I worked at Subway that I use when handling discs and things that might get smudgy.

That's not too weird.

I have a copy of Raptor, the best top-scrolling flying shooter ever made ever. It's so old that it's on multiple floppy discs. I can't even install it on my computer because of that. This is why they should invent Forwards Compatibility.

I have a big box with two original floppies of Doom. It says "Your free copy of Doom Shareware" on the box.

I also have the same copy of FFVII that I bought when I was like 7 or something, but the manual is missing.

Well...I still have and wear regularly my cap that came with Shogun: Total War. And up until a few years ago, I had a whole collection of the old style PC game full sized cardboard box packaging. They got thrown out ;_;. Still have the manuals though, the difference in size between those and today's manuals is quite significant.

As for games...well, I don't throw anything out, keep reasonable care of them, but often find myself with a scratched or lost disc that nessecitates I buy a re-realease version. Often too I've found some of my stuff to not be compatible with XP and no work around.

Some games I have like System Shock 2, Battlezone, Arcanum, Freespace 2 or Dark Reign, I haven't seen a re-realease copy anywhere so I'm glad I still have em' hehe ;)

I've kept pretty much every game I've ever owned, starting from back in the NES era. I still have my copy of Dragon Warrior from the Nintendo Power giveaway. SNES era, I still have FFIV and VI (2 & 3) and Chrono Trigger. I started earning my own money during the reign of the Playstation, so that's where my collection took off. I'm an RPG junkie, and I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I own almost every RPG ever released in the states for both the PS1 and PS2, even the bad ones. This includes all the Suikodens, Shadow Hearts (even Koudelka), non-greatest hits FFVII-XII, Xenogears, and I could go on endlessly. Those are just the most prominent. On the flip side, I own very little that isn't an RPG, which kind of hurts now that my interests are branching out a bit more.

NES : Blades of steel, Metroid 1
SNES : FF2, FF3, Star Fox, Super Metroid

FF2 and FF3 are complete and still have the original plastic around the box (except at one end of the box so I could play the game! )

I sold FF8 PC version for 70$....also sold Ogre Battle foor PSX with strat guide for 75$.. I just sold Zelda 1 on the NES for 45$... I should have kept this one tho..

Guess the best thing I have for a rare game would be FF7. It drives my friends online insane that I have a game they want but yet I hate so much.

I used to have a Sega CD with Sewer Shark and Cliffhanger, I still rue the day I gave it away.
I've got PS2 Psychonauts, think that's about it (unless N64 games count, in which case I have a crapload of those)

I used to have Resident Evil 4 Collector's Edition for the PS2. I got bored of the game and needed some money to buy another game, so I traded it in at Gamestop. Worst decision of my life. Now I can't find the game for sale used anywhere.

SeaCalMaster:
Uplink, if it counts. God, I love that game.

Ooh, Uplink. I never got very far with it, but I thought it was great at the time. Guess I'll be installing that this weekend...

Stagger P:
Does Rez count as a rarity?

I'd say it does. It got quite expensive on eBay in the end. I always thought about selling my copy but I could never bring myself to do it. Now I have it on Xbox Live I wish I had.

Oh man I loved Raptor. There are CD copies out there (as I still have one).

arcade cabinets and circuit boards are probably subject to greater instances of rarity.

That is very true, I for one just picked up the arcade version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and a buddy of mine has the original, dedicated, stand-up Bionic Commando

Not sure if they are all that rare but I own the following games along with the original boxes, manuals etc.

-Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
-Tron 2.0
-Dogs of War
-Alice (my personal favorite game of all time)

If only I hadn't sold all my Sega and PS1 games, I'd have either a gold mine or one long ass list of old games.

Not rare if you're from the US, but my European copy of Advent Rising was rather hard to get hold of.

Pokemon Yellow, and not one, not two, but THREE copies of Pokemon Blue.
I also used to have Crystal, but I think I gave that away. God that game ROCKED.

Border Down along with most of the other rare Dreamcast shmups.
Cosmic Smash and Napple Tale
Panzer Dragoon Saga

Does Rez count as a rarity?

Depends which version PAL, US or JP. All are pretty rare actually, but some versions more than others.

I have a copy of Raptor, the best top-scrolling flying shooter ever made ever.

It certainly looks good, but defo not the best top-down shmup ever made.

I had a copy of that old game for the NES with Yoshi and the cookies (it was a puzzle game) but my mom sold it in a garage sale.

In a "not quite so rare" note, how much would it cost me to buy an original SNES and super mario RPG? I have great memories of the game, but I could only play at a friends house and, well, never got around to beating it. I'm also tired of waiting for it to come out on the virtual console.

I have never traded in (and rarely even lend my friends) my games, so I think of them as my little collection of awesome. Not sure how rare some of these actually are, so I'll mention the ones I had a hard time coming across:
2 LoZ collectors editions (one with OOT, MM, and 2 NES LoZ games/one with OOT, and OOT Master Quest)
all 3 Fatal Frame games
Kuon
Shadow Hearts: Covenant (cant find a copy of the original Shadow Hearts anywhere)
Rule of Rose
Trapt
SMT Nocturne with strategy guide brick
3 of 4 Ace Attorney games (cant find the 1st one)
I HAD a copy of Beyond Good & Evil for Gamecube...but it has mysteriously dissapeared.

I've been trying to get KH:chain of memories and Koudelka for a while now. Ebay is looking to be my only hope.
