I found myself many times wondering how the hell a blindingly obvious mistake managed to sneak it's way past the designers. The encyclopedia in 3 was the biggest blunder I've ever seen in a game. Also the gameplay in 1 and 3 wasn't exactly great but it was good enough to not be annoying and there wasn't enough of it to get in the way which is something to be thankful for. What 1 and 3 did have though was a story so incredibly well done I'm willing to overlook all that crap to name it my favorite series of all time. Many games manage to be fun and entertaining so it doesn't really stand out when one is enjoyable to play. It does stand out however when a game has a story as thought provoking and emotionally moving as Xenosaga. |

BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE IT, but not me, people think i'm weird for that, its just a game thats full of repetitive grind until lich king comes out, then theres another character who has a new type of grind, more levels so you can grind even more and think that youv'e achieved something, and new and exciting places to grind in |

Sure, it may have had some issues with the gameplay and the story isn't on its list of redeeming features, but what other game allows you to kill swarms of raptors, scorpions, weird corcodile things, a T-rex, and Powers Booth in one playthrough? Doom 3, say what you like about no weapon having a flashlight attached but that still doesn't change the fact that Doom 3 was still a great game. 1. Pretty much 90% of fights took place at close range (something that more recent shooters seem to believe is below them). 2. Even though the game wasn't overly scary, they still blended the horror and action quite well (which is more than we can say for FEAR) and 3. I personally found Doom 3 to be fun, I could have a good time while running through a corridoor reducing zombies and demons to a fine paste with my boomstick (something that the modern rise of military shooters seems to frown upon). Dawn of War (I've recieved flak for playing it), it is refreshing to play an RTS that isn't based around the formula of USA vs. everyone else (what I call the 'Westwood complex'). Finally, Farcry: Instincts. I liked his game from the second I began playing it for one very important reason, Jack Carver. No matter how irritating it was when I was killed by my own trap or when I was soptted by a guard who was 50ft away while I was in bushes, I couldn't bring myself to dislike the game because I found the protaganist tobe interesting enough to warrant my cotinued effort (just to see what happens to him next). Anothr point is that the mutation he undergoes is actually approriate for his character. In Area 51, Ethan Cole is a college/university educated do-gooder who follows in his farther's footsteps and joins the army, then he spontaniously becomes a flash-eating, parasite spewing abomination and can morph between the two at will (thats quite a strong contrast). In Farcry, however, Jack is supposed to be a bit of a bastard anyway, in which case its not out of character for him to turn feral. |

I DO!!!!!! Guilty Gear isnt popular up here in NY but when I was in Atlanta everybody and their mommas had that game. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 846 Joined: 5 Jul 2008 | I also liked Ninja Gaiden 2. I could suffer through the story because I know that it is almost intentionally bad, the way a Mario game has a bad storyline. I liked it for the gameplay and some good design choices |

Thank gawd. I'm not a freak :P I loved that fact that MGS 2 was a contemporary take on the first one and I loved the story as well. |

All Fallout zealots were mad at that game because they were looking forward to a 'proper' sequel to Fallout 2. I quite enjoyed it. I was a simple run-around and kill stuff game like Champions of Norath or Baldur's Gate:Dark Alliance. I didn't play the original Fallouts before then so I was ignorant of the history. |

Those games have Metacritic ratings of 89 and 82. No, I don't think everyone else seems to hate them. You chose some weird examples to start off the thread with.
Oh yes, people sure do hate Final Fantasy. It's not like FFVII is one of the most highly acclaimed games ever made or anything.
That was a really cool game, though I don't know what people think about it. There are too many games being brought up in this thread that simply aren't hated by everyone, many of them are highly regarded or just really popular. I mean at least two people have mentioned Halo 3. |

I don't understand what you're trying to say. First you blame me for hating Wow... which I do not, my post said I liked it. And then you go on to tell me that it's all a stupid grind anyway. What exactly do you mean? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1198 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | I liked Assassin's Creed a lot. It was fun for me and the FUN part compensated for any of it's flaws. Maybe because I always liked the idea of randomly assassinating people on the streets. In a game that is! |

F*CK Yea! People hate the FF series because it makes them think they have an opinion and aren't just following the masses. Quest 64. Ahhh, the memories.....having to restart every day because I didn't have the memory card....good times, good times. |

Ditto to that. I love the ones I've played (VII, X and XII) and to say they're supposed to be one of the most popular series of games, nobody likes them! Most people don't like Rayman, the origional which I played in 1997, but I love it. Thank God PS2's play PS1 games. *Hugs my PS2* |

I've played all the Sonic games since the Dreamcast (minus SA2 and '06 (especially '06; saw someone else play through it)) and there really isn't that much to detract from them being OK games. |

Deus Ex: Invisible War.
Good game, inexplicably loathed by many.
