The only people complaining are children. Seriously, People within the M-rating don't care and would probably play it with the content filter for shits and giggles, the kids are just bitching and throwing a temper tantrum because people are saying 'no' to them.

Epic has used content filters for a long time, as someone else already mentioned. This is big news now, only because you never noticed it before. Because it didn't affect your gameplay. I shouldn't expect this time will be any different. :)

This particular method, using sparks instead of blood, is actually not all that uncommon among game developers hoping to sell in Europe, specifically Germany. Human on human graphic violence is prohibited in entertainment. Some, like Serious Sam's devs make it a silly joke. Others take the route of suggesting all the bad guys are robotic. What happens when you hit a robot with a chainsaw? Sparks fly.

How is this any different than any other game that uses the blood on/off or gore on/off type program? OMG Epic changed the name, Gears 2 will suck and the world will end. Jeepers ppl they have been using this for years why cry about it now?

Really? I tend to not look at ranks and such so I hadn't noticed. Doesn't change the fact I liked her opinion anyway. I didn't really know anything about content filters up to that point because I never really had any interest in any of the 'M' games when I was younger, and even since I've been older I never noticed or cared much about ratings regardless because the games still didn't appeal. Mind you, I never liked the idea of a youth playing Splatterguts because he's more likely to have it make an impression on him.

Some folks can play games with the graphic violence and disassociate from it, or just not like it, but some people are just more susceptible to being sucked in by the experience based on his own personal psychology, and typically youths are more impressionable so it might leave them a bit funny because their grasp on reality is a bit skewed... Teens tend to feel invulnerable, so why not try to use a spray can to light shit on fire? Nothing can go wrong, right? Then again, chainsawing a guy in a face and seeing sparks wont change the fact a guy got a chainsaw in the face, so I dunno really... I never HEARD about any kids going bonzo and playing Texas Chainsaw Massacre with his buddies, but maybe he'll be a bit more tweekie. Thank goodness he'll be too busy playing out said tweekieness on XBOX Live splitting my eardrums whenever he squeals over a kill, it's a lot easier than finding a real chainsaw... Then, he'll probably grow out of it to go to college and get drunk, because chicks are better than chainsaws in the face so he'll forget about the reenactment.

... All that said, didn't say very much. Guess there is no point to a content filter after all, still shouldn't be playing it though, it's rated M. I had to wait (for other games), so should he. It's a right of passage! When you'll be legally allowed to play GoW2, you will be a man, there will be a joyous festivity and drunken revelry, you will have a hangover and sob 'never again' for the better part of a day and you'll be pissy for a few days because the alcohol made your bowels irregular. Growing up is awesome, enjoy your youth while you can.
