Halo is like Final Fantasy for shooters. It was the first game of it's kind for some people so it gets treated as the quintissential FPS. For those of us who played other games first or have encountered other games Halo does not rise to that level.

The hell? How is Halo the FF of shooters? DOOM is the FF of shooters! Christ, just about every FPS between Doom and Goldeneye was called a "Doom Clone", that's how bloody amazing Doom was!

Final Fantasy 7 was a really great game. The whole series are great games. I've played all manner of RPGs, including the "Phantasy Star" series, which is supposedly SEGA's answer to Final Fantasy. It's not. Final Fantasy blows all opposition out of the water... or, at least, it did prior to 11 and 12, when it became a WoW clone.

The world would have been a better place if Halo and Duke Nukem switched places - all we'd get from Halo Fanboys is "Halo 2: Master Chief Forever is going to ROCK when it comes out... some day..."

What I said has nothing to do with whether the franchise or individual games within the franchise are good or even great games. The point here is that because it was the first rpg franchise for many people they come to believe that it is by default the premier rpg, when in reality it is not even in it's home territory. Though not nearly as loud as the Halo fans (Some of them) there seem to be a sizeable number that think that just because Final Fantasy XIII is not out yet that means that there are no rpgs on the Playstation 3. What these people don't understand much like Halo fanboys/girls is that Final Fantasy is neither the best nor only game of it's kind available.

The last conversation i had with a real life Halo fan....

HIM: So you're a gamer?

ME: *shrug* I play games.

HIM: Do you have Halo?

ME: No, I actually can't stand the game.

HIM: Awww, wha-? Man, then you're not a gamer. I fucking love that game.

ME: Okay.

If you replaced Halo with FEAR, I've had pretty much the exact same conversation... but more long winded (I'm serious, he wouldn't shut up about it)

And Final Fantasy. And Legend of Zelda. And Half-Life, come to think of it. Oh, and NFL and WWE and South Park, to take it beyond video games. Somewhere out there there's some dedicated fan of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing who think it's the greatest thing EVAR... every entertainment has those folks. Of course, the bigger/more-successful/whatever it is, the more of these folks there are for it. (I'd swear it's a fixed percentage.)

That's not a fault of the game (or form of entertainment), it's a human fault.

Be lucky you can walk away. When it's your job at Gamestop, you really hate the guy who talks about an obscure JRPG that I know I would never touch for hours.

:/

(and I love JRPGS...)

After having vented my fan boy rage its good to see how my post should have gone, my thread should have been like this, but obviously since i love halo my post was paramount to OMGz STop Being Nastie To Halo!

This thread clears a lot of things up for me, and yes its all too true. People who play Halo don't come on forums and argue about it because this is the first time i've ever done it and i only did it because i found people who for some utterly demented reason thought that Halo was not infact a shiny love spattered piece of joy moulded by the very hand of god himself. (which i still believe to this day)

It makes sense that people who are more 'hardcore' gamers would have enjoyed FPS's better than Halo and those are sort of people that would be on forums argueing about it. It all fits quite nicely together.

Because everyone who loves halo to no end is playing it now and the ones who hate it rant about it on the net. I think it's ok tho. only for the multiplayer. I suck at it.

You have what is known as a biased opinion. When people don't agree with you, accept it, because...
They don't have to agree!

If you can learn to actually justify why it's the best game ever, then your thread may not have been locked. Right now, you're classifying it as the best game ever SOLELY because you like it. No other criteria. You like it. Say you like it. Say "it's the best game I've ever played." DO NOT say "it's the best game ever" unless you have a sufficient reason to claim it. Go back to school, you need it.

Note: Never seriously claim something was forged from the hand of God. Just don't. Even if it actually was. Do not, ever.
