Recently I've found myself stopping virus checks so it won't affect my online gaming. I've cut off the firewall to play BF (nothing else seemed to work). And I think I might've given EA complete control of my PC. So I wonder how many people put their gaming experience before the security of their computer? Perhaps gaming is the biggest reason for security breaches, hah.

I think I'd change your last option from "meh" to "what?" because that's what I though when I read your poll. Hopefully down the line people will elaborate on this and people who said "what?" will be informed, it'll also show them they didn't know about it until now.

I run my anti-virus programs when I sleep and when I do other stuff (shower, school, socialise).

My AV has set-it-and-forget-it scans, and I experience no slowdowns while it's running, much less any conflicts with any games.

(btw it's McAfee)

Symantic Business or w/e provided by my University. I kept getting memory dumps or issues when TF2 tried to swap out maps. I could join and play on any server I wanted to, but if the map swapped, *CRASH*. Looked it up, says it's related to the AV I use (also issues with AVG, as well). I'm using it because it's free, after I get out of school, I'll probably opt into Panda.

Most people actually have an over-abundance of security running at any one time. For one, if you are using a router, you can turn off the Windows Firewall permanently since your router has a better one built in. Second, if all your doing online at that particular time is playing video games, then no you don't need to be running an active scan. I actually never run any active scans on my computer. I have it scheduled to do a full system scan once a month and I have been virus/spyware/adware free for 2 and half years.

The most my Anti-Virus has ever done is minimize my games so it can tell me it's installing an update.

Yeah, needed to read the topic before the poll made sense especially after coming from a section about DRMs.

Anyway, I don't really have trouble with AV. It bugs me once the first time I start a new game with online features. I also use a scheduler so I don't need to worry about it clogging performance (rarely up at 4 in the morning anyway.)

I at one time had a very nice setup, as far as security. one modem, one gateway, and one router, each with 128bit encryption enabled. pretty decent setup. but it slowed down my online gaming a down little. i kept using this method until my gateway burnt up:( now i have a little better net speed, and a little less security.

"meh." idon't do nearly enough pc gaming to care about security breaches. the most i'll play is BF2 or CS:CZ on a local match with bots.

I don't have any form of antivirus or firewall installed.

I know, I'm very very stupid. Yet somehow, I never seem to have any problems.

I couldn't play MapleStory because they required me to pull down my firewall :(
