Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 780 Joined: 7 Jun 2008 | Oooo! Shiny carapace lighting effects! I don't think they could simplify the controls enough to put this on console. Just my two cents. |
Paperboy Posts: 43 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | I really hope they dont abandon the Chaos Marines or the Imperial guard. It just wouldnt be Warhammer 40K without Objectivist cultists worshiping dark gods in order to consume the universe in a coming darkness. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 3 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | Let me give you a little back history. before the 'zomg GW is ripping blizzard off' comments start flooding in. Back in the ye old days, before the mists of time were yet to recede fully revealing more enlightened days of gaming Games Workshop was in negotiations with a small software developer called blizzard (before Vivendi bought them) Now, GW wanted Blizzard to make a game, and let them run nearly to completion before pulling out because they somehow thought it would hurt their sales. Blizzard, obviously piqued in investing time and money into the development were left with a nearly completed game... and decided to risk finishing it and releasing it anyway... with things changed. So yes, the Zerg /are/ Tyranids, the Protoss are Eldar and the Space Marines are... well, they are the space marines. And ever since then blizzard have been poking a tongue at the IP of GW, by subtly mimicing them at times just enough to make the resemblance without making a direct parallel, but by this time Blizz has developed enough material of their own to not rely apon it. As for the gameplay aspect of it... I'm pretty sure Relic is ingenious enough to make a unique mechanic to make a difference between the zerg and the nids, that being said there will be simularities... just note that the nids have undergone evolution since starcraft 1! |

Copy Clerk Posts: 74 Joined: 12 Nov 2007 | Not overly surprised. The moment they said (i believe anyway) that there wouldn't be bases in DoW2, I figured it'd be time to implement the nids. Ah well it'll be fun destroying them. |

Apparently the reason Nids were dropped from any DOW sequel was the fear that with their focus on close combat they would overpower everyone through sheer weight of numbers, a la Zerg. A fair bit of balancing will need to be done to pull this off methinks. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 861 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | They are so ripping off Starcraft - those things are just like the Zerg. *rolleyes* |

If they have flyers at all they should be an off-map special ability unit. (Seriously, Soulstorm should have implemented flyers like Epic does, a unit that stays off map until given a mission, which then comes on, does it's stuff, leaves and has to cooldown. More damage done to the unit by flak and interceptors increases the cooldown). |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 851 Joined: 30 Jul 2008 | flyers are just impossible to implement well in RTS. either pathing, or balance issues. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2663 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | They look overpowered from the trailer. DoW 2 may be able to make the Tyranids look good but small squad based combat won't be true to nids play style. |

See Someones post on us just controlling the Synapse, While the instinct puppets the Gaunts. |
Paperboy Posts: 41 Joined: 8 Apr 2008 | I wouldn't worry about them being to overpowered because of the melee focus, remember the Orks? Also there are going to be bases and economies in skirmishes and Multiplayer, its just the campaign that's been re-worked |
Press Junketeer Posts: 409 Joined: 12 Aug 2008 | Is anyone else getting annoyed with cinematic trailers that end with two awesome characters about to have a kickass fight? They also did this in the battle march cinematic with a war priest and a blood thirster. |

someone already made a post about it earlier. and *rolleyes* is a tad ambiguious, sorry |

People hoped for Tyranids. And "There is purity of purpose in faith of the just(Relic studios)" Page 37 40K Rule book EDIT:Wargamer Warhammer and Warhammer 40K are way older than Warcraft and Starcraft. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 741 Joined: 12 Apr 2008 | I doubt it would be possible for a console version to work. The micromanagement needed to play at tournment level is more insane then Starcraft. It takes less time to setup infrastructure and start pumping out units in DoW so console gamers would be screwed if they ran it in the "Games For Windows" combined server. |

People also "hoped" for Homeworld 3 instead of DoW2 to be announced, people hoped that all the races would be in DoW2's release, people didn't expect Tyranids until Relic was teasing us about them, so I don't see your point except that he still has a slim chance of seeing this on consoles, except that chance is not "0%". |

Ultrajoe was hoping. Hes a person well an ULTRAperson. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3435 Joined: 28 Jun 2008 | Nah, ULTRAJOE knew beforehand, for he is all knowing. Duh. Still, I think this is worthy of an AWESOMENESS seal. It's like a purity seal but AWESOME. |

EDIT:CARNIFEX ON MY FACE PLZ! OM NOM NOM! I couldn't find any bigger videos but hey feel free to overanalyze this video, but so far from what I see they look fantastic, and this game is gonna come in frikin' spring '09, so this is all unpolished crap.
I looked in "The News Room" and I used the search function and it only brought up "speculation" threads, so damnit if this does get locked, remember, you heard it here first!
OMFGWTFBBQ!
Oh lawd I hope this doesn't mean we must sacrifice the Chaos, until the expansion pack comes out (oh you know there will be many, and will probably be standalone, carrying the Necrons, Tau, and Chaos) - but if that means I get some 'nids, then by the Emperor I am fine with that sacrifice!
Oh man, I really want to kill/kill with one of those things.
Anyway, let the fanboy joy and blizzard comparisons commence.
Don't want this thread to be completely aimless, so I'll ask this, in the article it says this:
Exactly how do the Tyranids work? How are they going to be implemented into the game without it just being "Build Hive, build units, spam, finished" - I mean, I here there isn't even any base building in this one, so will they pop up from the ground and devour all in their path? Will they catch strategic points?
Will they be campaign only?Scratch that, that would piss so many people off.
