Muckraker Posts: 339 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | I still have my original, but had a problem initially with the power brick. Was replaced pretty quickly, and they sent me PGR as a gift as well for the inconvenience. Pretty solid customer service in my opinion. I'm interested to see how many people have had major problems. I always get the feeling that the problems are a bit overblown. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 537 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | I think you should edit the title so it says 360 since the the a few first released original xbox consoles could have problems reading discs. Anyway, I own a 360 that has been fixed once, I don't know if it was replaced or just fixed though. |
Paperboy Posts: 23 Joined: 16 Jun 2008 | I had mine replaced the exact same day as I bought it. Somehow it wouldn't read any disc at all so I googled the problem, learned it was because of somehing inside which wasn't where it was supposed to be. I took it to my retailer and complained, they made a quick test on one of their TVs in the shop and agreed that it was malfunctioning. So they instantly gave me a new one and it has worked like a charm ever since. I've even dropped the console at a point, was scared as ashit, but it didn't even get a scratch. I find computer mice to be much more prone to malfunctioning. I've had one Logitech MX 1000 and one Steelseries Ikari laser replaced within 2 years. :( |

I've heard of PS2s that were run over by someone's car and were just fine, if a little more compact (that was the old version, not the thin one). As nice as it is to know they've got all us clumsy gamers covered, it'd be nicer to know they had all the hardware problems worked out before release. They sent you a free game when they replaced the power brick? That was nice of them, almost make me wish I got the three rings of death if I knew there was a free game in it for me. |

I had that problem three times now. The other two, RROD. Poor me. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1556 Joined: 21 Nov 2007 | On my second, the disc tray went AWOL on my first one, rarely opened and when it did, it'd rarely read the disc. Got an Elite now, been fine for nearly a year. |

Anonymous Source Posts: 4 Joined: 6 Aug 2007 | My 360 itself was fine on its own. However, scared of having problems, I bought a Nyko Intercooler. The thing short circuited maybe 3 months after I bought it and fused itself to the 360. Nyko bought me a new one. Before that I had the external hard drive fail. MS replaced it, but bye-bye all my game saves. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 381 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | I've had mine since launch and it's still going strong. The only reason you hear more about broken 360s is because those of use who take care of them are too busy playing to complain. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 591 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | I'm currently waiting for my third 360 to break. I have a Wii in a glass case that says 'in case of 3 red lights break glass' |
Paperboy Posts: 22 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | only had the one, only for about 9 months though, no problems at all |

I keep getting disk read errors also, i want to replace it but i don't think its in warranty anymore because it was pre-owned when i got it. I'm on my third. So, two, terminal, Red Ring of Death failures. All covered by the now extended 3 year warranty (only for that specific fault). My tip: Keep the box UPS send it back to you in as you'll need it for when you have to send it away to be replaced/fixed next time - it has nice formed polystyrene insides and is a lot less effort to sort out than the box you have to provide yourself the first time around... |

Copy Clerk Posts: 105 Joined: 23 May 2008 | Janus leads me to my question, out of those of you who have had the RROD or the problem where the game tells you it's a game in 7 languages then chastises you for putting it in a DVD player(the disk is in the 360 mind you), how many of those smoke in their houses? Mine has broken down twice, (one of each of the above errors) and both times were in homes where all 3 of my roommates were smoking weed or cigarettes |
Muckraker Posts: 237 Joined: 7 Aug 2008 | Had the same one forever....encountered the RRoD only once, but that was my own retardedness rather than technical issues. I figure if I encounter a problem, it'll be nothing a fist thrust or a drop kick couldnt fix...fixed my PS2 that way... |
Press Junketeer Posts: 363 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | I'm still on my first. I got it for Christmas last year, so I assume the Red Ring of Death problem has been fixed. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 86 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | Somehow through some divine purpose, I have yet to get the RRoD, going on 1.5 years.... I'm surprised to say the least. |

Muckraker Posts: 239 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | I've had my first for 11 months now and I've yet to have a problem. However I have the Halo edition 360 because I read that it had more reliable hardware and indeed it doesn't seem to get as hot as my buddy's original 360. |
Paperboy Posts: 43 Joined: 16 Mar 2008 | Got mine Christmas of 06' HEAVY use since then, at least an hour a day up to 10 hours straight when I'm really bored. Haven't had a single problem with the actual console, but the HDDVD player kinda sucked, couldn't read discs. Oh well, I got myself a PS3 a few weeks ago, so I haven't played it a whole lot recently. |
Paperboy Posts: 43 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | I am proud to say i'm still on my first 360..... Doesn't work though. Following a GTAIV related RROD it now lies on my housemates bedroom floor in no less that 8 pieces... but maybe I'm just unlucky, cos I seem to own the only Wii in the world that has Disc read errors... |

Just out of curiosity, I keep hearing about people who have had their Xboxes quit working in various ways and about people who have had to have theirs replaced multiple times, I was wondering just how common this problem was. I seem to be one of the few people who own their original Xbox 360 that they purchased the first time, though I've run into problems with reading discs, this is usually the fault of my local game rental store not checking for scratches. As of this post I've never had a system failure that wasn't caused by a power outage. Am I just really lucky in this aspect or is this problem blown out of proportion?
If this has been done before I'm sorry, but I searched the forums and found no previous posts concerning this.
