Call of duty 4 was a great game. And part of the reason why is that was a breath of fresh air.
Now the series is using that popularity to make another fuckin W.W. 2 themed game.
With generic weapons that are seen in every other game where you shoot nazis and steal there generic weapons instead. The only W.W. 2 game I liked was Return to Castle Wolfenstein because there were interesting enemies in it like Ubersoldaten and not just the same weapons
Well obviously I think the game is going to be shit, how about you

Change the poll, because in my opinion, this'll be hit.

It presents a completly new idea of WWII, the unshown yet battles in jungle. If they will go for open jungle, not that linear garden, like in the Turok; combined with decent AI, this can be even the game of the year. Oh, wait, there are GoW2 and F3 in the queue. So nope, it won't be the best game of the year, but it can be really fun.

Its being made by Treyarch, they made Call Of Duty 3 which i found to be one of the worst fps i had ever played. As much as this game looks interesting i think it will likely be very shit with Treyarch behind it.

One of the main reasons I liked COD4 was because of the new theme, how the weapons were current era weapons, and how we could more easily relate to the main story conflict, but what made me play it longer than the few hours it took to beat it was the gameplay in online multiplayer, so I cant really judge the game because I haven't played it, if the multiplayer is as good or better than COD4, then it might prevail, but it will probably lose some of its fan base from going back to the old theme.

over 400+ games made about world war II, then finally someone like infinity ward (who, like all the rest, got into the making of WWII games) makes a game like CoD4 and it totally kicks ass...and then they go right back to making THE SAME OLD WWII GAME faster than you can say "the nazis bombed pearl harbor". What the hell happened? CoD4: "MODERN" warfare was a great first person shooter and the way the story ended infinity ward could have come up with totally new characters and stories not to mention new factions for another game. Instead of the S.A.S. and the marine corps, why not say, navy seals or army HALO jumpers, or canadian special forces for christ's sake! just to name a few. Oh, you say that "world at war" is different than other WWII themed games because it takes place in the pacific theater rather then nazi germany? Well so what? It's the same war, we all know how it ends. And besides the other part of the game is taking place in russia fighting germans so it's practically a remake of the first part of the campaign in CoD2, big friggin deal!

But of course it will probably be a good FPS (I hope it's shit really, so that activision can realize they made a mistake letting whoever the developers are now go back to a WWII theme game) and I'll probably play it. It's just that they had something good going for them with modern warfare and the whole emphasis on "modern" that is. So why ruin it?

Umm, didn't CoD:WaW was supposed to have Japanese soldiers, or just my data is not up to date?

Well, basing on their interviews, screens, and other things, I think this'll be a good one.

No way to know until I play it. I, of course, hope it is a wonderful game. I really enjoyed CoD4.

And here comes the return of the Axis as the perennial computer game whipping boys. Originality is an alien concept to these people.

Right on.

Treyarch have been given a liscence to produce CoD games while the proper developer is working on the next DECENT CoD game. All because the publisher wants 1 new CoD a year.

*EDIT* Woooo 100 posts

So CoD5 will be shit, CoD6 will be *the shit*, CoD7 shit, CoD8....oh you know where I'm going with this.

I never trust entirely the period before the game coming out. Interviews and screenshots are often bullshit, from the gameplay footage i've seen the coop looks solid but the game still looks very scripted in many areas. I'd rather base it on the companys previous game to get a good idea, and COD3 was a pile of dogshit.

TIME AND LOCATION HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE QUALITY and potential.

Anyone who thinks this doesn't understand game design.... and that is most people, so don't feel ashamed.

Some people have grown tired of the WW2 setting and likely won't enjoy it as much thats all. Its got nothing to do with not understanding game design.

Wasn't impressed by the COD5 trailers. I'm looking forward to COD6 tho. All the more as it is rumored to take place in a more science-fiction like setup. Future Warfare anyone? :D

Not likely, it will likely be set in current times again. They could easily just swap things around to make a new game. For instance American infantry combat become British Army combat and SAS mission are now Delta Force or Navy seals. Make some odd plot about middle eastern troubles and hey we have COD 6.

I don't know actually. I wouldn't be surprised if they threw a curveball and let you play on the side of the Axis for a while, after the last game.

Its a setting, and thus doesn't effect gameplay, you don't seem to realize that it isn't the setting that determines anything. It doesn't matter if your firing an mp5 or a tommy, they are the same thing basically. It doesn't matter if you have WW2 cloths or moderncombat cloths, you are still just a moving hitbox. It doesn't matter if a gun has a red dot or ironsights cause you are still firing the same way. All setting does is determine how the graphics look. And the characters might as well all be a solid red color, your still playing the same game.

Not likely...

Why not? The future has more stories to tell than the past.

Treyarch do not have a great record (Aside from Call of Duty 3 they also managed to make being Spiderman a boring experience), so skepticism is warranted here.

$$$ Thats why, no need to move onto another timeline when you haven't milked the current enough. Well shit they are making World at War. They seem to think you can still make some money off the WW2 setting.

I mean have you even read the latest previews? This game is going to be a very "Dark and gritty" take on WWII. Remember cod4? well that had an exelent tone and this game is goin with a darker tone to.

If I may be as so bold to post a comic.

As to my opinion, I haven't played many (see; Any) WWII First Person Shooters, the two main franchises (Medal of Honour, Call of Duty) seem a little drab to me. On the other hand, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway looks pretty fun.

All that said, I liked Call of Duty 4 a lot.

I think it's a bit early to call, but the trailer with the flamethrowers looked like every WW2 shooter I've ever played.

So suffice to say I'm not exactly rushing out to preorder this or anything.

Call of Duty sequels that end with an odd number: oh good get it away from me i think it has communicable diseases

I would like to see COD 6: Russian/Georgian Conflict. That would be super awesome. You could be the Georgian rebels trying to kill as many russians as possible before they rape and pillage the towns. Throw in a couple stealth sabatoge missions and you got yourself a decent game!

Dark and gritty eh? I'm seeing lots of brown, grays and black instore for us, and after playing the nice lit maps of CoD4, I'm not sure if I want to go back.

You never know they might do something original with the game. Perhaps they will set a campaign in the foothills of Republican China, perhaps as the guerrilla communist forces fighting against the Japanese invaders. Perhaps they will let you fight as the Greek army against the bungled Italian invasion. Perchance, if delicately handled, you may even be able to play as one of the Axis states in a campaign (not in the obvious 'we're supervillains' way, but in the 'I'm a conscript who doesn't want to be here either' way'). Instead of defending a village bridge in the Low Countries during an evacuation, maybe the fall of Singapore could be an option. Rather than spending the winter in the snowy fields of France, the icy plateaus of Manchuria would provide for an interesting killing ground.

If any idea like this is done no doubt it will be as the generic U.S. commando who finds himself inserted with the random nation, or as the Axis soldier who defects and end fighting side by side with the US army. Unfortunately I find it hard to believe that any form of innovation in setting will discount the imbedded notion of USA=majority of military action.

If we are very lucky though and prey very hard at our bedsides at night, we might get to land on Omaha beach again, but this time in HD!

I think it will be great. After playing Call of Duty 4 to death, I decided to try Call of Duty 3 again. I played through the campaign on normal, and I loved it. The campaign was simply amazing, it made me feel like I was really in WWII. COD 3 had an Immersion factor that COD 4 lacked. I really enjoyed the few matches I played online with COD 3 aswell, every player seemed to know how to use the guns effectively. I saw no-one 'Spraying and praying' like almost everyone does on COD 4.
By the way, one of the reason I'm buying this game is for the "generic weapons". World War II rifles are by far my favourite weapons. I would rather be armed with an M1 Garand rifle than an M4 Carbine or an M16 assault rifle.

Umm... And what about a WWII game, where you can play as a Nazi / Russian, and fight against the good? Or to do Pearl Harbor attack again, and again, but with different roles (plane, submarine, battleship, infantry, etc.).

As you can see, there are many things, that weren't used yet. But the developers seem to love feeding us the same American Shit Apple Pie again, and again.
