Just tell him that your not an idiot and won't give some child molester your name, address and phone number. Promise not to use his credit card to buy stuff, and promise not to make racial slurs like everyone else does, show him that your mature enough to come talk to him about it. |

If your dad doesn't want you going on X-Box live, trust me when I say this, he is not wrong. Sure there are some occasional fun games, but only after you run into a bunch of hate mongering, screaming, high, retards (like me =D). He probably doesn't want to hear you screaming back at those dumb asses who probably have their headset's volume turned all the way down so they don't hear any responses. You may want to play on live really badly, but it just isn't worth it most of the time, unless of course you have friends on live as well. Well ,The way I convinced my parents to let me play counter strike online is show them my maturity, and let them play it (warning can backfire if you join a party of morons)...But show them how fun and it is,and tell them Pros and cons such as developing social skills, hand eye coordination, and you get out your anger then say one con:being exposed to the same thing i am exposed to in everyday life just in a different form curse words and racial slur's...also tell him you wont use his credit card.Tell him you'll pay for it with your own money...People really respect that. |

Maybe talk to him about why he doesn't want you online and ask him when he thinks it would be appropriate to have some restrictions limited. - J |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2019 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | You're not really giving us much to go on. Why doesn't he want you to go on live? Has he explained his reasons to you? It could be that he's got a really valid reason which you should accept, (e.g you have very limited bandwidth & he doesn't want you "hogging" it all for gaming as he needs to use the internet a lot as part of his job) or it could be his reasoning is completely unfounded & misinformed (e.g. another father told him that Al-Quaeda use COD4 as a recruitment tool & paedophiles can touch you through the headset with their e-peens). Until we know his reasons why he doesn't want you to go on X-box Live there's not a lot we can do to help you. My best advice is to sit down with him & ask him exactly why he doesn't want you to go on live, & if there's room for compromise, suggest using the free 1 month gold membership you get with live as a trial period, where he can observer what you're doing, then at the end of the month trial sit down & re-assess each others points of view. But at the end of the day, he's your father & you should honour him & his decision, whatever the reasons, altruistic or not. |

Assuming you're under 17, your father shouldn't let you go online, in my opinion. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2107 Joined: 23 Feb 2008 | How about you tell him you won't use the headset so you can't talk to anyone. Tell him you'll let him read all of the messages you send so he'll know whom you're talking to. I think part of the reason parents don't like their kids going online is that they are not in control of it. If you give him the control he will most likely be more inclined to let you use it. |
