Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 29 Aug 2008 | the idea is good for some, but i dont think there would be a big enough western fan base... |
Copy Clerk Posts: 120 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | I reckon that WoW NEEDS over thrown, over thrown by a game you only have to pay once for. Why would anyone want to buy a game for like £30 and then pay another £10 for the privilege of having bought someone else's game. A western MMO would be amazing, there might not be the fan base of westerns to get the attention of everyone, though, if it was really good and places like Ign gave it good reviews it would gain ign's fan base and eventually(hopefully) overthrow the soul sucking bastard that is WoW |
Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 5 Sep 2008 | I think it would be a nice change for Wow to be replaced by a differect MMO, but I dont think the time is now. The numbers of players show how popular the game is currently, and people that want it gone are probably people that dont like/play it. I used to be a very active player of the game last year and can say it was one of the best gaming experiences i've ever had, and i've still to find something better online for the xbox heh. In essence though we need a change of game but for now WoW is fine in my eyes |

Press Junketeer Posts: 398 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | I'd like to see more mmos with actually new ideas so I'd play a western one as long as combat stayed actiony(no turn-based/semi-turn-based crap). Also the only way to over-throw WoW would be with an even bigger mmo that steals more souls than WoW. |

Muckraker Posts: 262 Joined: 10 Aug 2008 | I wouldn't mind seeing wow dethroned, but i don't really care. And i don't really like your idea either, i prefer fantasy/ sci-fi. |

Maybe you'll get 3 million to give it a shot. If your lucky..giving the benefit of the doubt. >.> that still another 5 million pure western gunslinging mmo fans you'd need. Good idea sure it'd be different..but seriously, it's not happening. Besides..i think an mmo thats about what 95% point shoot and ranged combat just wouldn't work. Bringing a knife to a gun fight is a great way to get yourself teabagged. PvE maybe.. but pvp couldn't really work. and lord knows we have to have our pvp...*sigh |

pvp could be a separate team deathmatch type thing, where whenever it's 1 on each team, they get tele'd into the middle of the town for a good ol' fashioned quickdraw. Bosses in pve could be steam-powered mechanical creations and stuff. People using six-shooters can disable, and get the benefit of range. People using shotguns can deal more damage but must be close. That's all I can think of in about 10 seconds. If we had more people actively thinking about this for a few months it can totally be done. P.S. The tutorial is your journey from the east to the west ala Oregon Trail |

Yes, wouldnt be the same when the good and the bad finally got their gun-duel. The street empties. The wind stops howling for a moment, as a bush blows over the road. A couple of bird takes off. Then they both draws... And while standing still, empties all 6 shots of their 6-shooters into the opponent, reload and repeats until one of them's hitpoints finally reaches zero. |

Good point. I just don't have enough faith in any mmo community that the masses wold go for that tho. Most jsut care about hitting the level cap and being as uber as possible. There is no room for realism anymore and tactics and stratergy lol. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 83 Joined: 15 Aug 2008 | A cool idea, but half the point of mmo's is that you can get all this retarded shit like Winged Falcon Griffin deplrothra of the golden shining monkey king...yeah, stuff like that. And that would be hard to do in a western styled mmo. The point im getting at is that fantasy and sci-fi mmo's are great cos you can get so much different crap with different attributes that its worth working towards. how are you going to do that with a western mmo? |
Paperboy Posts: 24 Joined: 30 Aug 2008 | The Western motif is one almost completely overlooked in the game world, especially in MMOs. I've never played WoW so I don't care what throne it's on, but a Western MMO would be something I'd invest in. |

I don't think you guys are putting enough thought into this. Just because its a western doesn't mean it wont work. You would find clothing, famous bandit vests, and crazy Mexican ponchos. You could still get legendary items, except the focus wouldn't be how bulky and powerful can you look. It would be more how bad ass, how streamlined, how professional. And in reference to "people just wanna hit the level cap", I totally understand, but i totally don't care. I have friends who always say "get to 70 dude so you can start playing!" but im all about the journey, The acquiring of gear and weapons to me is way more fun them having the same gear for two weeks, till you finally get a new belt. Boring. And lets be obvious... The WoW diehards will look at every competition out there and just decide its inferior simply because it isnt wow. Come on guys open up a bit here. This could totally be done, and if done right it could be amazing. |

That's MMORPG. MMO can refer to any game that's Massively Multiplayer Online. I like the Idea of a Western Style MMOFPS with RPG elements. |

yea but i figured we were talking mmorpg cause this thread started as a game that could "dethrone" WoW... |
Beat Writer Posts: 194 Joined: 18 Jun 2008 | I cannot really envision it. What I find interesting about fantasy and sci-fi is that they are open to a lot of things. They warp reality into their own world, instead of being stuck to normal boringness as a Western. I don't mind playing for the 8-15 hours most games offer nowadays but I'm not really going to invest more than that into it. And there's not too much leeway here anyway. As an RPG it would be incredibly boring where all you did was go around fighting people and coyotes. As a shooter it would be moderately entertaining though samey with the people and coyotes. |

Guys. I know ive already posted a topic about a Spaghetti Western MMO. But its such an amazing idea, to me at least, that i wish it would get proper discussion.
The potential is huge. Its a change to the normal fantasy MMO and brings the genre to a new level. People. Question one: Would This not be awesome???
And Question Two: To make this topic fresh, i have a secondary question, something that came up over and over with the first topic.
Would you like to see WoW dethroned? And if so, by a game like this?
Discuss.
