Since we have been recently talking about the female side of video games, let's not forget about the female video game heroines who have been adventuring, defending justice, multi-tasking, kung fu fighting and shooting up stuff for years.

So who is your favourite female video game character and why?

Even though she's not a monster slaying adventurer, my favourite female video game character is Franziska Von Karma from the Phoenix Wright series.

Franziska Von Karma is an 18 year old courtroom prosecutor, from an early age she was a child prodigy and at the young age of 13 she became a prosecutor in Germany. She's a tough courtroom opponent for Phoenix Wright and when Phoenix makes a mistake she's not afraid to give him a whipping, literally!

Her character is generally cold towards others, especially Phoenix, but as you progress through the story you find out she isn't such a bad person after all.

Alyx Vance- the only female game character i've seen who is'nt a cardboard cutout

SAMUS. EVEN IN THE BIG-SHOULDERED SUIT SHE'S THE HOTTEST THING TO HAPPEN TO NINTENDO.
Also, Zelda's pretty cool. In a shallow, always-gets-captured-in-the-games-she-decides-to-show-up-in, also-lends-her-name-to-games-she-can't-be-bothered-to-show-up-in way

My personal favorite would have to be Samus Aran from Metroid. Simple reason really, she has one of the coolest suits of armor I've ever seen (short of Warhammer 40k Space Marines) and makes a living blowing stuff up. That and the fact that she useually goes around killing local wildlife (seems that she also has something against peta...I like that).

I also find it interesting that when it comes to the topic of sexism in gaming, people are very quick to deny Samus' femininity since she happens to be a strong female character (and protaganist, thats even rarer) who acts alone and litereally kicks ass under the pretense of her wearing full power armor throughout the game (that would undermine their arguement though, wouldn't it?).

The reason I choose these two is because they aren't bad-ass action girls, which is annoying as fuck. Also, they're hot.

It's a race between Mona Sax and Alyx Vance.

My favorite has to be Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy. Why? A Couple Reaons:

1:She's Not A typical shallow, always-gets-captured-in-the-games-she-decides-to-show-up-in, character like Peach or Zelda.
2:Like Bastila in KOTOR she holds a great dark secret about the main character (in this case Cloud Strife) thats revealed in the middle of the game just when u think the game's almost over, thus starting a whole new adventure-thing for redemtion
3:Unlike Samus Aran of Metroid, she doesnt need a big power suit to get the job done. In fact unlike most characters in video games, she doesnt need ANYTHING except her body to kick ur f@$%&# ass!
4:She doesnt exploit her sexuality. Noble, but also very disappointing for most fans or underage kids because trust me, she has a LOT of it. Thank SquareSoft for that.

Could I borrow your copy of the game? I think I played a different version. FFX-2 had Yuna ooze 'bad-ass' action girl as bad as Lara Croft. It was a little bit revolting at times.

I liked Amabel Swanson (from Penumbra: Black Plague). If there's any need for reasons here they are:
She's a scientist, most likely a viral biologist, that means she's smart.
She is reasonably tall.
She seems to like joking, even in dire situations. Sense of humour is very important for me

Also, I like Rayne.
She's beautiful, strong, slightly evil, and sarcastic.
