Gone Gonzo Posts: 1847 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | Crap. I voted yes. The problem with having two camera angles is that one of them is always completely useless. |
PROBATION Posts: 2827 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | Options are always good, but only if they are implemented properly. Bad camera control and/or transparency dynamics (or lack thereof) ruins an otherwise good third-person view. User was put on probation for: Poll: CoD: WaW. Its got major issues.. (3 days) |

But switching worked well in the Star Wars Battlefront games, and could have worked with Halo, since it switched to third person when you used vehicles and turrets anyway. I probably would still have used the first person option, but it could've worked. Oh, and games that switch perspectives for stuff like a cover system (I'm looking at you Rainbow 6: Vegas 2), should either be third person to begin with, ditch the cover system, or actually work on a functional first person cover system. |

vampire: the masquerade thus, your claim has been refuted. |

Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 10 Sep 2008 | I actually like first persons games best as a rule. I like a 3rd person game here and there, but I prefer the first person perspective. That said, I also love RPGs. Too many RPGs that go for a first person perspective suck. Dark messiah of Might and Magic got the first person combat right, but, other than that ended up being pretty shallow. Vampire the Masquerade was great fun, but forced you into 3rd person for Melee combat, and it was buggy as hell. Oblivion and Morrowind both had horrible first person combat... I'd like to see a First Person RPG with Morrowind level open environments Oblivion's being able to interact with almost any object, Gothic II Night of the Raven's challenge/advancement system (you don't select a class to be at the beginning, you actually have to join work your way up the food chain to join your preferred 'profession' and learn their ways and become the class over the course of the game), Planescape Torment and BGII: Shadow of Amn level story and character interaction, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic's first person melee combat and bow/arrow combat and a magic system that combined the Quest for Glory series spells with Oblivion's spell effect manipulation (creating your own spells) with Gothic IIs magic and Guild War's magic, then follow that up with Half Life 2 level animations and voice acting and the lip syncing facial expression technology therein, along with a massive fully interactive with fully realized LIVING cities and people and completely destructible/deformable/movable/physics enabled EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING. That said I'd want the actual graphics kept stylized and artistic, not realistic. Something like Guild War's concept art... not how Guild Wars the game looked, but its concept art, a game that looked like a painting... such as things like: http://news.filefront.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/guildwars_petrifiedtree.jpg and http://farm1.static.flickr.com/57/177145844_f15c61dc21.jpg and http://2black.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/crabfort.jpg and http://guildwars.incgamers.com/gallery/data/526/concept3.jpg and http://guildwars.gameamp.com/modules/gallery/uploads/23237.jpg and http://guildwars.incgamers.com/gallery/data/526/concept2.jpg |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1205 Joined: 23 Oct 2007 | Operation Flashpoint and ArmA: Armed Assault provided both and did it relatively well. OK, there wasn't much point in going third-person when playing infantry, but the option was there and did come in useful for vehicles at certain points. |

Paperboy Posts: 40 Joined: 11 Sep 2008 | Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 had the option of switching and i've always prefered 3rd person because it gives a better idea of your position realitive to enemies |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3024 Joined: 27 Apr 2008 | It was a good idea in Oblivion, 1st for the bulk of the game, and 3rd for steering horses |

It was meant to be played in 3rd person.
The player models on Fallout 3 look a bit better. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1177 Joined: 26 Mar 2008 | Nah, all the games i've seen do it never get it right and just weaken both the views. Or for example the third person looks great but in the first person view the hands look and move terrible. *edit* Funny somebody said Oblivion was great, the third person view in that game was terrible. It looked like the player was sliding half the time. |

Well at least the player models look better for Fallout 3, so maybe Bethesda is learning |
Copy Clerk Posts: 74 Joined: 10 Apr 2008 | Hmmm. I voted no. I don't think the option to choose should be there, as one is always better than the other, depending on the game. They should get it right the first time, there shouldn't be a need for someone to want to change the view. |

Maybe, we will have to see when it comes out. |

Both, just because the you can experience the game two different ways. |
Muckraker Posts: 233 Joined: 18 Aug 2008 | beleive it or not i think it should be a mix of two for as long as it follows a few guidelines of course, like first person shooters shouldnt have auto aim, its pointless and it shouldnt be very touchy where a small move screws up every thing, and in a fps you should always see the gun and hands and a relaod animation and 3rd person should make sure that one stick is for character controle and the other is for the camera, so if the games dont follow these they should be a 3rd person instead of first and vice versa |

Ever played a game and thought, "Man! This game is awesome! But it would be so much better if it was (3rd/1st) person."? I know I have... on many games. So the question is: Do you believe that all games should give the option to switch in between the two?
