...Wow... what are the chances of that?
I don't think thoughs hats are really going to help much IF the Hadron implodes... But, damn, thats kind of amazing.
Hang on... who built it? They wouldn't call themselves Black Mesa by any chance... if so, we're doomed.
Well at least we know what will happen and that its time to stock up on headcrab and combine killing equipment aka guns... and crowbars...
ARGHH! G-Man! I need my crowbar! Gordon is much more handsome though ;P
We are doomed. | |
Don't you mean half-lifed?
This is awesome, I can't wait to see the world get raped by parasitic aliens :D
Somebody give that guy a crowbar! The collider is in Sweden, near Geneva, not switzerland. Is it a large collider of hadrons, or a collider of large hadrons?
the 2nd picture looks like subtle photoshopping.... there's no danger to the large hadron collider... unless you expect the same astral radiation that we deal with every day to be dangerous. how did that black hole rumor start anyway?
LOL Nice. | |
I think it's because the scientists themselves have stated at some point that it might cause miniblack holes, however they also stated that they wouldn't have any effect.
Can you tell because of the pixels and that you've seen a number of photoshops in your time?
When the scientists working on it said it would create black holes :/ To be fair, they did say "|micro black holes" that would be managable. But the fact that it will make black holes at all is somewhat worrying
PSed? | |
Well, it's not really that hard to just put a little burn around the eyes, you can make anyone look like a sunken eyed weirdo.
No. It's not. To quote directly "According to the standard calculations these are harmless because they would quickly decay by Hawking radiation." I don't pretend to understand the physics, but I'm not really worried about microscopic black holes.
See this for science. | |
WRONG. | |
Bah! Quit interjecting your facts and reason into our fearmongering and conjecture!
LULZ! Grab the crowbars boys! The combine's coming!
Geneva is in Switzerland you twit :P And i havnt a clue as to wether its a collider of large hadrons or a large collider of hadrons
If you can find a picture of a security guard who looks like Barney, we're doomed.
I don't get it why people mix up Sweden and Switzerland so often. I can understand mixing up Lithuania & Latvia (I'm not sure which one is which) and Slovenia & Slovakia but Sweden and Switzerland? They only share 2 same letters!
it is a Large Collider. It is very large. So large it crosses the French-Swiss border - presumably twice. The protons that it accelerates are not very large, infact are very, very small in comparison. So it's my bet that the 'large' refers to the collider itself. Regardless of the scientific likely hood of any danger emerging from the LHC, the news that Gordon Freeman appears to have been co-opted into working on the project under the close supervision of none other than the G-man... well, I think I'll invest in a crowbar and some medi-packs. Prepare for unexpected consequences...
Not to worry. Crowbar is on the way.
Awesome! Well, we're all doomed but if I survive I want to be a headcrab zombie!
Media. A physicist said that there was a negligable chance of harmless, microscopic black holes being formed. Another scientist heard this and said that a black hole that could suck up the world could be created. The scientist in question was a botanist though... not that the newspaper would let that get in the way of a story.
You know of Particle Accelerators and how they function, but not that Geneva is in Switzerland? Do you know what the Bush Doctrine is?
Indeed, it's easy to grasp the principle that a black whole will swallow stuff up and get bigger and bigger. It's much harder to get across the principle that black holes 'evaporate' and indeed most do.
Oh and I was worried, but If Gordon's there it should be alright.
This 2nd picture is hilarious. The guy with glasses, in the white helmet on the right, looks like he's explaining Headcrabs to the other guys, judging by his hand gestures. Also what's up with the guy on the far right? His helmet looks really odd, like it can't fit on his head properly. Maybe he already has a Headcrab growing under his helmet, or just an abnormally shaped head.
The guy on the right's helmet is way too small. No way is that going to protect him from a headcrab attack.

You guys know the Large Hadron Collider In Switzerland? The machine that was supposedly going to create a black hole and destory the earth? Well, no chance of that, we're always in safe hands!
Anyone else got photos of people who look just like game characters?
