I'd love to see LOTR as Lego. Even though it wasn't Number 1, I think that one was my favorite idea. |

I can also really easily imagine that kind of non talking lego attitude for the Smith's, it would be sweet! |

I was gonna say that. A lego half life 2 or silent hill (with the world shifting happening randomly) would be awesome. |

All lies! And to remain on topic... Lego Saving Private Ryan. Makes the scene where that guy picks up his arm make alot more sense. |

I think i'd work pritty well with the lego formula, especially with how many charcters there are. Playing as Cap America, Thor, Ironman, Hulk and so many others would just be too cool. But, I seriously doubt it'd sell well. Though, a lego fight club would be ledgendary, and pritty creepy |

Paperboy Posts: 46 Joined: 2 Aug 2008 | Damn, my point is completly undermined. And Harry Potter isn't just for 12 year olds. There were 12m under 16 year olds in the uk (2001)source: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P1-68000248.html In total, 21,697,162 copies of Harry Potter books have been sold in the U.K. So, unless the under 16 population doubled, which would be really strange, then I'm right. source:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2007/06/30/nosplit/bopotter130.xml |
Muckraker Posts: 276 Joined: 12 Sep 2008 | And for the books, that's fine. But we've got plenty of other Harry Potter games without needing to make the series cute again. Besides, how do you make Lego-ise Dumbledore's death? And I'm sorry my initial response was rather mean. But hey, it made me smile. |

Ever since Lego Star Wars was released back on the Xbox, Travelers Tales has been going buck wild with the Lego games, which isn't really a bad thing depending if you are a fan. I just picked up the latest Lego game "Lego Batman" for the Xbox 360. The game is essentially the same as Star Wars and Indiana Jones but with better gameplay, in my opinion.
You already know that they are gonna keep making more of these Lego games because people are still buying them and they are still getting good reviews. But what do you think Travelers Tales will take on next for the next Lego game? I've thought long and hard on this topic (sort of) and i've devised this list of ideas. I know that Travelers Tales only seems to make these games off of actual Lego sets available, but what if they decided to think outside the box, literarlly?
My Top 5 Ideas for the Next Lego Game
Number Five
The Matrix
The Matrix, as you all know, is a midly popular sci fi franchise that ended its streak with "The Matrix Revolutions" back a while ago. The Matrix franchise has everything that would be cool for a Lego game. There is Kung Fu fighting, lots of slow mo diving, and some pretty awesome gun play. A franchise like That Matrix could be just what the Lego franchise needs to really evolve from a very simple platformer with easy combat.
Think about it for a moment. The hub level could be Morpheous's ship and you could play as all your favorite Matrix characters from all the movies.
The Matrix is at number five because even though it is a possibility, I doubt they will make a Lego game off this franchise. And players probably won't wanna play as other characters other than maybe Neo, which would befall the same fate as Indiana Jones, people only really wanted to play as Indy.
The real question is: "Would you take the red pill or the blue pill with Lego Matrix?"
Number Four
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters would be a great franchise to bring to Lego format simply because catching ghosts would be fun. This idea is higher than The Matrix simply because I like Ghostbusters a hell of a lot more than The Matrix.
Playing as Egon, Peter, Ray, or Winston would be awesome but it worries me that there won't be enough characters to play as. Everyone will want to be the ghostbusters, but how will they fill out the rest of the roster? Would they add people like Vince Clortho, Zull, and Gozar? Well...probably...but that isn't the point. There just aren't enough memorable characters to put into a Lego Ghostbusters game.
The hub level would be the Ghostbuster HQ and the levels would follow the two movies, maybe even creating content that would be similar to a third movie perhaps.
I'm really just speaking from a fanboy perspective here. Ghostbusters is just plain awesome and I really wish they would due the franchise justice by making a good ghostbusters game. I haven't had high hopes for the Ghostbusters game coming out from Terminal Reality. If it sucks, thats about it. There aren't any other ghostbusters games that are coming out or that have come out and been good.
"I ain't afraid of no Lego Ghostbusters..."
Number Three
Spiderman
Spiderman is one of my favorite superheroes in existance. He is just awesome. Unlike JLA and The Matrix, there actually are Lego sets based on Spiderman. It seems like a no brainer to put spidey into his own Lego game. The addition of web slinging would be a great addition to the game to give it some fresh ideas rather than just going with what has worked already. Maybe they could make Lego Spiderman like the other spidey games, open sandbox gameplay.
The Daily Bugle could be the hub level and the humor already in the spidey universe could translate well to Lego format since the Lego games like to have their own brand of humor.
Lego Batman did a great thing by giving the villians a storyline. Spiderman villians would be perfect for something like this. Seriously, Lego Venom or Lego Doc Oc would be crazy awesome. There are plenty of memorable characters to play as but it makes me think that things could be like Indiana Jones where players only wanna play as Spidey or the villians.
"My Lego Spidey sense is tingling, something's going on here"
Number Two
Lord of the Rings
Three movies of pure fantasy greatness. The story would be just like Star Wars in that there are three movies to split things up with. The characters are memorable and there are more than enough to choose a few favorites. There would be characters that have projectiles like Legolos or characters with large weapons like Gimli.
There is just more variety with LOTR than the other Lego Games. Having big Lego themed battles to simulate Helms Deep or Amon Hol would be freaking incredible. The problem with the current Lego games is that the environments are small as hell. With LOTR, there are so many larger environments to explore through that the game would be much more open and explorable than previous games. They could finally make those mini-kits more difficult to find.
What would be even better with LOTR is if you could take more than two characters out into battle. Seeing how the movies always revolved around a small group of two or more charcters, it would be a no brainer to increase the character count from two to more in co-op play. Why just have a partner when I can have a whole fellowship?
Online partys of characters would be a great thing as well. Team up with 7 buddies and raid The Mines of Moria together instead of just you and your one buddy. Doesn't that sound like it would be awesome?
"Speak Lego Lord of the Rings and enter..."
Number One
Xmen
Another superhero franchise on the list. Where the other franchises have stopped short is in the character department. Some franchises have only one character people would wanna play as while others have too many to choose from. Xmen is the second choice in that there are an INSANE amount of characters to choose from. Let me run through a bunch of the well known ones; Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Jubilie, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, Beast, Psylocke, Arch Angel, Ice man, Bishop, Cable, Professor X, Magento, Mystique, Toad, The Blob, Pyro, and Apocalypse.
That's 20 characters and I haven't even begun to get to the rest of them. There are SO many different characters in the world of Xmen that it would be almost impossible to put them all into one game. The xmen cast stretches far beyond any superhero story that i've heard of. Xmen wouldn't befall the fate of Indiana Jones either because there are PLENTY of characters to choose from and everyone will have a favorite instead of people fighting to play as Indy while the other being stuck with whomever is with Indy at the time.
Like I said with Lord of the Rings, why keep the player count to two? Why not increase it for more players? Wouldn't be awesome to run through a mission with an entire TEAM of Xmen, each one controlled by a buddy online? That would be beyond awesome.
Xmen is a great series with a lot of different storys to tell. The possibilites are greater than any other series because of the cast of characters. You could tell a flashback story for wolverine or pit the Xmen and Villians together against Apocalypse.
The hub level would either be Magento's fortress for the villians or Profesor X's school for mutants. They don't even need to limit it to just those two places. You could possibly even have more than two sides with the Xmen, it is all up to how the developer wants to do things.
I think everyone will agree with me when I say that the Lego series needs to evolve if it is gonna succeed in the future. Travelers Tales has done three game franchises and if they want to keep people playing, they will need to evolve the series somehow.
